Ok, cool kids of XMPP! How do I find (new) chatgroups in XMPP/Jabber?
I made me a new XMPP acc yesterday and now it's kinda silent there. I'd like to change that. But I'm having problems finding (active) rooms. Back in the days there was a muc search on the web but I can't remember the address. :(
For those who run #ProsodyIM as #xmpp server, I did something simple but effective in my failover architecture:
- 2 Prosody instances in two different regions in a datacenter
- lsyncd syncing from primary to stand by instance all data
- an entrypoint script supervising Prosody execution
- a lock file controlling if entrypoint script can up Prosody
- a daemon checking if floating ip is linked to hosts and controlling the lock file and the lsyncd execution and configuration to primary/standby modes
Perfect solution? Of course not.
Effective solution? Hell yeah.

I want to break a local community free from Signal, and I've been thinking about XMPP. In reading some analyses I found this gem:

I stopped using Signal because I just don't trust it. Why so many updates with no explanations? Is it so unstable and insecure that it needs them? Also, check out search results for running your own Signal server. Technically it's free software, but practically, good luck.
So I guess I need to figure out persistence and E2EE for XMPP, and land on a server and clients. I'm inclined towards ejabberd, because Erlang!
I'd welcome thoughts.

Quietly slipped in today: the XSF has published a new XEP - XEP-0512 - which I had the pleasure of authoring.
It's a small step, but one that opens up some interesting directions for #XMPP implementations. Curious to see where people take it from here.

Our combined booth for #UnifiedPush and #XMPP at #CLT2026 went great. There was huge interest in UnifiedPush, and we successfully funneled some of that interest into XMPP as well.
I think it's a great combination since those projects are ideologically well-aligned, and we will likely do it again.

Juntando a demanda que ele trouxe com os princípios de privacidade e não coleta de dados do isaCloud, XMPP e Voz Social, está sendo implantado um fluxo bem simples e opcional para vincular um e-mail à conta XMPP.
Quem o fizer, terá a opção de gerar um link de redefinição que será enviado pro e-mail previamente verificado.

#prosody based #snikket sounds perfect for the garden use case. For really big groups (city) you might prefer to host an #ejabberd. Of course usage characteristics matter more than sheer number of participants.
A tiny but very useful feature has been added in Movim today: you can now swipe to reply! ✨

Since my new XMPP upload server implementation "Rusty Filer" has been working great on trashserver.net since two weeks, I present to you:
