The Diameter of Jupiter

Diameter of Jupiter Graphic

The mean diameter of Jupiter is 138,346.5 km, the equatorial diameter being 142,984 km and the polar diameter being 133,709 km. The average diameter of the Earth is 12,742 km meaning Jupiter’s average diameter is 10.86 times that of the Earth’s (10.49 time at the poles and 11.22 times at the equator). The flattening at Jupiter’s poles is due to it’s quick rotation of 9 hours and 56 minutes pushing out the gas at the equator and creating a bulge.
