The Inkling Boy amiibo, also known as Inkling Boy (Neon Green), is a figure released by Nintendo as part of the Splatoon series of amiibo. The amiibo released on 21 July 2017 alongside Splatoon 2 for the Nintendo Switch. It unlocks special in-game content across the games in the Splatoon series as well as other Nintendo titles.

Two other male Inkling amiibo have been released for Splatoon: Inkling Boy and Inkling Boy (Purple).

Release history

On 12 April 2017, Nintendo announced in a Nintendo Direct, that Splatoon 2 will release alongside three new amiibo on 21 July 2017. All previous amiibo figures were also confirmed to be compatible with the game. The three amiibo that were announced were a new Inkling Girl, Inkling Boy, and Inkling Squid.

The 2.0.0 update for the game was announced on 7 November 2017 to include a new option available exclusively via the use of amiibo, where players are able to take pictures with them. The update released on 24 November 2017.

Appearance

The Inkling Boy amiibo is approximately 9 centimeters tall, including its base, which contributes about 1 centimeter to the overall height. The circular base measures 5 centimeters in diameter, and the figure's shooter extends outward beyond the base by roughly 2 centimeters, while a patch of ink extends outwards by roughly 1 centimeter.

The fegure is based on Splatoon 2's secondary promotional character, prominently featured on the game's cover and in promotional materials. He is depicted a light-skinned Inkling Boy (the third skin tone in Splatoon 2) with neon green hair and blue eyes (though they appear green in-game). He has the Slick hairstyle and wears shorts with pants underneath. He wears no headgear, the Black V-Neck Tee, and Yellow-Mesh Sneakers and holds the Splattershot. The base features a patch of green ink, which extends to his right foot, serving as additional support.

Compatibility with Splatoon series games

Splatoon 2

In Splatoon 2, amiibo reward the player with an exclusive gear set and provide the ability to quickly save or apply equipped gear and control settings via the equip menu. The player can also take pictures with amiibo characters in Inkopolis Square. As of Version 2.0.0, players can also take pictures alongside non-idol amiibo characters in multiplayer stages whilst carrying weapons, in addition to camera filters being added.

While the amiibo of both Splatoon 2's Inkling Boy and the Inkling Boy from Splatoon share the same dialogue and features, the game differentiates between them. The rewards given by the Inkling Boy from Splatoon 2 are a Ninja-themed set of gear. The rewards are received in the following order:

Squinja Mask and Seaskape for Squid Beatz 2 upon initial scan.
Squinja Suit after ten victories in any multiplayer battle modes.
Squinja Boots after ten additional victories.

It is possible to unlock the rest of the gear together at once if the player fulfills the twenty multiplayer victories requirement but does not scan the amiibo in-between the two sets of ten victories.

Additionally, as of Version 2.0.0, players can take pictures with the amiibo with their standard or saved gear at Inkopolis Square and all stages except for the Shifty Stations.

Splatoon 3

As in Splatoon 2, amiibo in Splatoon 3 reward the player with an exclusive gear set and provide the ability to quickly save or apply equipped gear and controls settings via the Freshest Fits mechanic. Players can take pictures alongside amiibo characters via Photo Mode.

In Splatoon 3, the Inkling Boy amiibo from both Splatoon 2 and Splatoon return and again share the same dialogue and features, but the game differentiates between them. The gear set given by the Inkling Boy amiibo from Splatoon 2 returns with the Squinja Mask split into separate pieces of gear, making the previously gender-locked male and female variants available for any style in Splatoon 3. The rewards are received in the following order:

Squinja Boots upon initial scan
Squinja Suit after ten victories in any multiplayer battle modes
Squinja Mask Mk I and Squinja Mask Mk II after ten additional victories

It is possible to unlock the rest of the gear together at once if the player fulfills the twenty multiplayer victories requirement but does not scan the amiibo in-between the two sets of ten victories.

Splatoon Raiders

In Splatoon Raiders, amiibo can be scanned in the style menu and reward the player with exclusive outfits for the mechanic.

Any Splatoon series amiibo except for Shiver (Splatoon Raiders), Frye (Splatoon Raiders), and Big Man (Splatoon Raiders) unlocks the Bite Waders outfit, a worn-down version of the Orange Gloopsuit from the Salmon Run series with one overall strap missing, a different shirt, and black gloves.

Some amiibo-compatible games outside of the Splatoon series offer unique content specifically tied to the Splatoon series of amiibo. In these cases, scanning a Splatoon amiibo may unlock exclusive in-game items, costumes, or other features that are distinct from standard amiibo rewards.

Other amiibo-compatible games may instead provide only generic support for the Splatoon series of amiibo in the form of default amiibo rewards; the type of amiibo may be acknowledged, but there is otherwise no Splatoon-specific content. These generic rewards often consist of basic in-game items or minor bonuses.

The table below lists every game with unique content that can be acquired by scanning the Inkling Boy amiibo. The "Compatible" column shows whether the amiibo is compatible with the listed games or which amiibo it registers as instead.
