Bands and Singer Songwriters I feel I should Like ( more than I actually do . . . . )

PJ Harvey: 1992 - 2000

Now if like me you aren’t too sure about Polly Jean (she’s from Bridport which is the seaside in Dorset UK you know!?) and she has worked with lots of folk I love (Nick Cave to name but one) somehow she has sort of slipped my net and I am really not entirely sure what I think!. I mean I APPRECIATE her but don’t own any albums, I would watch her on the telebox in’t corner of my room and if she was on Jools Later I would defo pay attention but . . . . . . what IS it?

Aaaaanyhhooo, Kostas has done us proud (again!) here and as compreshensive a profile as you are like to find here

Kostas says :

She is one Of the singer/songwriters who rose to prominence during the alternative rock explosion, few are as distinctive or as widely praised as Polly Jean Harvey. Over the course of her career, Harvey established herself as one of the most individual and influential songwriters of her era, exploring themes of sex, religion, and political issues with unnerving honesty, dark humor, and theatrical flair.

Picture of the Day | PJ Harvey at Art School 1991/1992

Thought people might like to see our Polly Jean at artschool and who knew? Not me! Yeoavil had a good reputation and that she went there is no surprise really

from Voodoo Wagon and this one from El Bosso Tutti!
It is a peach and she is always endlessly fascinating and yet under appreciated

As Silent Way says:

PJ Harvey In concert at Les Nuits de Fourviére in Lyon France and recorded on June 14, 2016. An artist of unquestioned brilliance who is also strangely underrated in the eyes of the mainstream, at least in the U.S. (well . . .no great loss) – but considered to be an artist’s artist by many who regard her work as uncompromising, urgent, vital and compelling.

Among the accolades she has received are the 2001 and 2011 Mercury Prize for Stories from the City, Stories from the Sea (2000) and Let England Shake (2011), respectively—the only artist to have been awarded the prize twice—eight Brit Award nominations, seven Grammy Award nominations and two further Mercury Prize nominations. Rolling Stone awarded her 1992’s Best New Artist and Best Singer Songwriter and 1995’s Artist of the Year, and listed Rid of Me, To Bring You My Love (1995) and Stories from the City, Stories from the Sea on its 500 Greatest Albums of All Time list. In 2011, she was awarded for Outstanding Contribution To Music at the NME Awards. In June 2013, she was awarded an MBE for services to music.

Big O update!

Haven't posted much of late from my favourite ROIO site and here's a couple of reminders as to how good they are! Head on over there and give him some money if you can for the AMAZING collection of recordings. He has stopped posting back catalogues and stopped the prizes in the Big O Mystery Song of the week so he could do with some support!

He posted some PJ HARVEY from the the other day and it is excellent despite the waffling from the French DJ - [they do that a lot on the continent, it's to stop bootleggers apparently, good luck with that!]

Head over there and download it they're having a row about who's better Chrissie Hynde or PJ!? (Sic) it's hilarious!

Also today they posted another fine Radio Broadcast and this is from Kris Kristofferson and Friends!
so you might say I am nothing if not eclectic! It's really good though and he starts with a favourite John Prine song 'The Late John Garfield Blues' which is worth the download alone in my humble opinion!
