Classic pop songs revisited! | THE BEAT’s ‘SAVE IT FOR LATER’ PETE TOWNSHEND

Pete Townshend and The Deep End - Save It For Later

I love this song and have it as a single by The Beat [The USA knew them as The English Beat as there was already band there with the simplified name]
But this by Pete shows his interest in their songs and as he says Dave Wakeling sent him the lyrics!

This video is recorded from a Laserdisc which should be the highest quality source currently available. Unfortunately, there is no DVD

Musical Youth were a one hit wonder really though accomplished in their own right eventually 'Pass The Dutch' was their only real chart showing. Give them a go you might be surprised

draftervoi over at Voodoo Wagon says:

English Beat recorded at the Boston Opera House, Boston, MA on November 19, 1982.
Musical Youth recorded at the Ritz, New York City, New York, on April 10, 1983.

Live shows by Musical Youth are rare; there's nothing up at Guitars 101.  There are two songs on this that may be unreleased: tracks 23 "Instrumental" and 33 "Love Me."  I was unable to match them up with any released songs.  If one of our Beloved Audience knows more, please leave a comment.

I tracked down the date of the Musical Youth show by using Newspapers.com. and I've included a .jpg of the article  I also found a "Getty Image" of David Johansen with Musical Youth backstage at the Ritz on April 10, 1983, which provides a second source for the date.

A longer version of the English Beat show is available for download (for a small fee) at Wolfgang's Concert Vault.

Two of the Budweiser commercials are by Joe Jackson and A Flock of Seagulls..  The first Bud commercial (Track 2) sounds like....someone.  I can't place it, but I think it's some early 80s pop rock group....does anyone recognize it?

This is the first time Frank Cody shows up as an announcer.  His WIKI says he's ""Smooth Jazz's Leading Alchemist" and "The Father of Smooth Jazz.

RANKING ROGER

'The Beat'

From the Beat webpage:

RIP ROGER ❤️

“He fought & fought & fought, Roger was a fighter.”
Sadly Roger past away a few hours ago peacefully at his home surrounded by family.
Roger’s family would like to thank everyone for their constant support during this tough time. More to follow in the coming days. RIP ROGER! ❤️

In Autumn 2018, just before he was about to embark on his first US tour in over 12 years, with a further worldwide tour following in 2019, Roger was diagnosed with cancer. At the time he was riding high and very happy having just released a superb live DVD at a sold-out London Roundhouse, finished a new album and had over the preceding year, enjoyed enormous worldwide success touring with The Selecter. As 2019 began he continued to bravely fight and whilst undergoing various treatments he managed to finish his biography ‘I Just Can’t Stop It’ with co-writer Daniel Rachel. It tells of his teen years growing up in Birmingham, and then the superb good fortune of meeting The Beat. The new studio album Public Confidential, which he was so rightly proud of, was released in January. Our hearts and commiserations go out to his family, his friends, his loved ones, his band mates (past and present) and of course to all his fans

Live at the BBC in Glasgow. For more: http://www.bbc.co.uk/quaysessions

The BEAT - Save it For Later
N.B. not the English Beat . . . they are THE BEAT
A feel good song . . . . . but angry too

Two dozen other stupid reasons why we should suffer for this
Don't bother trying to explain them,
just hold my hand while we come  . . .
to a decision on it

run away runaway run away let me down let me down
