Karen Burniston Designer Challenge - July 2021

Welcome to our July Karen Burniston Designer Challenge.

Check out Karen Burniston's blog on Wednesday (US Time) when you will be able to see what all the designers created for the challenge this month, plus Karen will have an amazing video tutorial to share with us all.

Our challenge theme this month is ... "TAG BOOKS" - make a card featuring the Tag Book or Circle Tag Book. This includes switching out the pop-up inside for Pivot Panels or anything else, OR using the Tag Book pop-up mechanisms in a card.

For my card today I decided to pull out the Tag Book Pop-up die set and used a picnic theme to decorate it.

Here is a close up of the left side of my Tag Book. For the grass along the bottom edge of each tag/square I used the grass border from the Nature Edges die set.

The picnic basket, ants and bread is from the Picnic Elements die set. The apples on the square panel is from the Tree  Fruit Die set.

On the inner page of the main tag I added a tree using the Mini Trees die set.

For the right side of the tag book I added the watermelons which is from Sweet Treat Charms die set. All the images on the tag are all from the Picnic Elements die set.

The sentiment which is stamped on three of the panels is from Lawn Fawn's Crazy Antics stamp set.

For the front of the tag book I used the grass and picnic items from the Picnic Elements die set.

I added the "Hello" sentiment which is from Word Set 6 - Summer die set.

Here is a back view of my tag book, I just decorated it with the designer paper I used on the front of the tag book. I added ribbon and twine for the holes in the tag book.

Bubbly Birthday Wishes

Hi Crafty Friends,

It’s challenge time with the “Crazies” over on the Crazy 4 Challenges blog. Rebecca Ednie our challenge hostess for the month, finishes off her month with one last challenge.

For our challenge this week Rebecca has given us the theme ... Tags! Make a project using a tag as an embellishment or layer.

For my my card today I decided to create a Mini Slimline Card using Karen Burniston's Tag Book Pop-up die set on the inside.

I had planned on making a Mini Slimline Card that measured 3.5 inches x 6 inches, however when I added the tag book mechanism to my card, the rounded tags peeked out at the end slightly. In the end this turned out to be a good things as I added the bubble border to the ends of the card which I may not have done otherwise. I used white pearlescent cardstock to die cut the bubble border.

To decorate my tags and card I used two stamp sets from Lawn Fawn ... Bubbles of Joy and Dandy Day.

I used the bubble border die along the bottom edge of each of the tags and squares so it looks like the mice are creating lots of bubbles.

I covered the front of my card with patterned paper. I pulled out a very old sentiment stamp I had in my stash to add the birthday sentiment, seeing the card was a bubble theme it suited the card the best.

I added a few more of the mice randomly over the card.

Don't forget to check out the rest of the “Crazies” cards over on the Crazy 4 Challenges blog and also their individual blogs for more details.

March 2020 Karen Burniston Designer Challenge

Hi Crafty Friends,

Welcome to our March Karen Burniston Designer Challenge.

Check out Karen Burniston's blog on Wednesday (US Time) when you will be able to see what all the designers created for the challenge this month, plus Karen will have an amazing video tutorial to share with us all.

Our challenge theme this month is ....
"ICYMI (In Case You Missed It)" - repost your favorite card from any previous Designer Challenge.

I posted this "pugalicious" card for our July 2019 "Picture This" Designer Challenge using the Photo Collage Card Pop-up die set. You can see more details about this card in my blog post found here.

The photos I used on this card were of my grand puppy Frankie, my daughter (her mummy), is always taking photos of her and often messages them to us. Frankie is quite a character!  So for our challenge today, I decided to create another card using some of the newer photos of Frankie that I have received.

This time around I decided to create a Photo Tag Book, using the Tag Book Pop-up die set. To frame all the photos I used the photo frame from the Photo Collage Pop-up die set.

The hardest part about making this card was deciding which photos to use.

I added three photos inside the photo frames to the front of the tag book. As one of the photos was from Frankie's 1st birthday party last year I decided to go with a birthday theme. I added the "Make A Wish" sentiment from Word Set 2 - Birthday underneath the photos.

I used the dog bowl, bones, hearts and bandana from the Cat & Dog die set to embellish the front of the card. The bandana if you are looking for it, I added to the centre photo of Frankie. So it looks like she is wearing it.

On the inside of the tag book, I added two more photos in the photo frames. These were placed on the larger tags on each end of the tag book.

Here is a close up look at the left hand side of my tag book. I added a bone to the bottom of the photo frame and added a bull dog clip from the Photo Collage Pop-up die set to the right hand side of the photo.

I used the fancy square die to decorate the centre square panels. This is another die included in the Tag Book Pop-p die set. I also added the "Happy" to the centre of the square.

On the right hand side of my tag book, I replicated what I did on the left hand side. I also added the "Birthday" to the square panel, as the sentiment was longer than the square I cut it into 2 pieces to add to the square.

Hope Your Day Is Amazing

Hi Crafty Friends,

It's challenge time with my friends over on the CCEE Stampers challenge blog. Lynn McAuley our challenge hostess for the month, continues to host the challenges.

April is the National Month of Hope. Create a card with a sentiment of encouragement and send it to a friend who is in need a spark of love and hope in their lives. Sometimes the smallest gesture can light that spark!

For my card today I pulled out some stamps/dies from Altenew. The flowers used on this card come from the Climbing Clematis Stamp set. I arranged my flowers onto ovals using Karen Burniston's Crosshatch Ovals die set.

The 'hope' sentiment is die cut using the coordinating die set for the "Hope" stamp/die set.

I created a tag book using the Circle Tag Book Pop-up die set from Karen Burniston.

I added more of the Climbing Clematis flowers, to the end circles of my tag book.

For the two centre circle panels I added a sentiment.

60th Anniversary

Hi Crafty Friends,

It's challenge time with my friends over on the CCEE Stampers challenge blog. Liz Williams our challenge hostess for the month, continues to issue the challenges.

Apparently Gold was discovered in California on Jan. 24, 1848. For our challenge this week we are to use some “gold” on our creations.

A couple that attend a club I attend are celebrating their 60th wedding anniversary this month, so I wanted to create a special card to give to them. Of course this challenge was the perfect opportunity to create my card for them.

To create my card I have used Karen Burniston's new Circle Tag Pop-up die set to create a tag book pop-up. This die set is one of the new die sets being released at the end of the month, this and all the other new die sets are available for pre ordering now ... link at the bottom of this post. I used vanilla pearlescent cardstock for the base of the card and then used gold cardstock and gold patterned papers to decorate the card.

I used some of the heart dies from the Hearts Pivot Panels die set which is another new die set being released this month. I also used the Numbers die set to add the "60th" to one of the circle panels.

I used the congrats sentiment from the  Word Set 1 - Greetings die set to add the sentiment to the card.

For the front of the tag book I used one of the ovals from the Crosshatch Ovals die set as the base for my sentiment. the Congrats is from the new Word Set 9 - Congrats die set.

September 2018 Karen Burniston Designer Challenge

Hi Crafty Friends,

Welcome to our September Karen Burniston Designer Challenge.

Check out Karen Burniston's blog on Wednesday (US Time) when you will be able to see what all the designers created for the challenge this month, plus Karen will have an amazing video tutorial to share with us all.

Our challenge theme this month is .... "HOUSE" - use the new House Pivot Panels OR the House & Fence for a card of any theme.

For my card today I decided to use the new House Pivot Panels die set. This die set can be used inside a card, in conjunction with the Twist Panel Pop-up die set or as I have for my card the Tag Book Pop-up die set.

The colors used on my card were taken from the colors in my designer paper which I used on the two tags that form my tag book and also on the top and bottom of the House Pivot Panels die cut piece.

I added glitter to each roof and chimney top, I also added a Glitter Dots Peel Off Sticker to the doors for the door knob.

I added two stamped sentiments at the bottom of each side of my tag book.

For the front of my tag book I used the same designer paper I used on the inside of the tag book. I die cut the "Merry Christmas" sentiment three times from pink cardstock and layered those together to add some depth to the sentiment and adhered that to the centre of the front.

I die cut three snowflakes which are from the Sleigh Pop-up die set from purple cardstock and adhered them to the tag book front.

Take Me To Lallybroch

Hi Crafty Friends,

Today I am sharing a card I created for my sister's birthday, depicting a scene from her favorite TV Show. When I saw this fun Kindred Stamps stamp set called Through the Stones I just had to purchase it to make her card. Unfortunately this stamp set is already sold out and I believe will not be available anymore.

For my card I used Karen Burniston's Tag Pop-up Card die set and used it inside a card.

For the two outer tags, I created a little scene which includes the stones and one of the main characters from the show.

I combined one of the sentiments included in the set to create my sentiments .... dinna fash (don't fret or relax).

Here is a close up on the right side of the inside of the card.

For the front of the card, I stamped the scene onto a rectangle that was die cut using the Crosshatch Rectangles die set. As I rounded the corners of the card and layers on the right, I also rounded the corners of the right side of the rectangle.

The grass used here is an older stamp from Rubber Baby Buggy Bumpers which I have had for years and is my favorite grass stamp.

July 2018 Karen Burniston Designer Challenge

Hi Crafty Friends,

Welcome to our July Karen Burniston Designer Challenge.

Check out Karen Burniston's blog on Wednesday (US Time) when you will be able to see what all the designers created for the challenge this month, plus Karen will have an amazing video tutorial to share with us all.

Our challenge theme this month is .... Sweet Summer.

The inspiration for my card today came from the designer paper I used on the side of the card. I loved all the multi colored ice blocks.  I also thought it might be fun to have these cute birds from My Favorite Things Toucan Can Do It to be enjoying an ice block after all that hard work exercising 😀.

For my card I used Karen Burniston's Tag Book Pop-up die set. Instead of making a tag book, I added it to the inside of a card. It's been a while since I have used this technique with this die set.

For the bottom corners of the card, I used one of the circles from the Crosshatch Circles die set to help highlight the birds.

The ice blocks are from the Sweet Treat Charms die set. For the sentiment I used the "Sweet" from the Word Set 6 - Summer die set.

The "Friend" sentiment comes from the Words Set 1 - Greetings die set.

For the front of the card I used the Crosshatch - Ovals to add to the centre of the card. I added some grass to the smaller oval using the grass border from the Nature Edges die set.

The birthday sentiment comes from the Words Set 2 - Birthday die set which I die cut 4 times to get a thicker sentiment.

Don't forget to visit Karen Burniston's blog on Wednesday when you will be able to see what all the designers created for the challenge this month.
