I'm on the fence about this one, but I don't think I can recommend it.

I found a recommendation for this game while looking for games like Chants of Sennaar where you learn a language. I want to make an important distinction between this game and that one for those like me: the language in this is not really a language, it's just lazily encrypted English. Because of this, it feels less like learning a language and more like solving a crossword. e.g. What's a 5-letter word for a leafy green shrub?

On top of this, the gameplay is incredibly scarce. The entire game takes place in a house with only like four rooms, and most of the time you're just pointing at things and being told the word for them. As you work out what some of the words are, it'll be easier to discover other ones until eventually you've worked out enough of the language that you can end the game. There's just not a lot to it.

The only driving aspect is the plot, which is mysterious enough to keep you playing for awhile, but for me personally, it wasn't enough to see things to the end. After a few hours, I spoiled the rest. I do think that it's a plot worth investing in, although I wouldn't call it groundbreaking, and I don't regret my decision to stop when I did.

It just kind of feels like a jam game to me. It's a fun concept but it's too half-baked and short to be worth paying for. If you can somehow get your hands on this for free, maybe it's worth it if the concept really appeals to you.

A beautiful game that was very fun to play. My recommendation would be to just play it without any outside help on your first run. I had a lot of fun playing with my girlfriend and on our second run we looked up a cipher and laughed at how wrong we were on some of the words. Very fun game and a very nice story. Couldn't recommend more!
