As someone who has had depression since childhood, I have mixed feelings about this game. I wish there were an option on steam to give a neutral review. I was hesitant to get into this experience after seeing all the religion comments, but at the same time that is kind of what emboldened me to play as well. Just to see if it was as bad as everyone was saying. It's not great, that part of this experience, but I will also say it is not as bad as people made it out to be. It's one or two chapters. It's unfortunate that you're made to scroll through bibilical text and go through a church support group but I will say it's not as present as a lot of reviews would make you think it is which is why I decided to give Room of Depression a positive review. The religion segment sucked for me personally as someone that went through life going to Catholic school and understanding the religious trauma people can have (especially as an LGBTQ person) but it was like.... Not very present in the game. Seriously just 1 or 2 chapters and not mentioned again and these chapters take very few minutes. I was annoyed that the actual going to church part made us have to read bible passages but I also understand, not everyone had religious trauma or dislikes religion as I do - and religion can be a way people find themselves and carry themselves out of depression. It does not portray religion as a cureall for depression like previous reviews made me feel it would, it actually shows many ways to tackle depression such as getting therapy, medication, building hobbies, etc. Religion was just one potential gateway to healing and I accept that because that is true to life, it works for some people. It's not as bad as some reviews make it seem. That section was not for me of course, but it wasn't so bad that the experience became irredeemable. Even at the end of the game religion isn't touched again for how Moon healed her relationship with existing and tackled her depression, it was just shown as one catalyst that can potentially help people. Not for me, not for everyone, but certainly not as bad as some of the negative reviews make it out to be. I seriously question if those reviewers finished the game after that section.

I appreciate the game shows that even the happiest people you know can be depressed and unfortunately cave to that. Depression is often silent rather than loud and we only know someone dear to us was struggling when it is far too late.

I enjoy there was voice acting. The music was repetitive but... the experience is an hour long so I can't really super complain about it. The puzzles were mostly easy so it felt like they weren't really needed and it should have just stayed a full static novel experience, but it did break things up.

I don't think this will speak to everyone's depression, it doesn't have that kind of depth. It's very superficial and one persons experience in it's portrayal. It would have been nice to explore other facets of depression, but it does tackle it somewhat well in its superficial way.

The experience is around an hour. I do not recommend it at full price. Discount only. And if I am being truly honest, you can skip this one. But I will still leave a positive review.

Look, ik, it's not the dev's fault, they already put disclaimer at the beginning that this is not representative of all people with depression, and at the end they also says that there are people with worse depression than our character here...

But yeah, this is "representative" of high functioning depression with support system.
