It's crazy how well this game holds up today. I personally think, after remapping my buttons, this game is substantially easier to control on the pc than the remake, and because you can SKIP THE DOOR SCENES, it honestly feels so much smoother than the remake at times. I couldn't have asked for a better ported version!

💙Summary (TLDR):
I think even after so many years this game is an absolute survival horror classic that still holds up with its gameplay and atmosphere despite its obvious cheese and cringe dialogue which is just a relic of its time so I highly recommend giving this old gem a go!
This Resident Evil basically is “the game that started it all”; the original release of the very first game of the series and I'm happy to finally being able to play it after having played its Remake dozens upon dozens of times! It was very interesting to me seeing where the Remake’s roots came from basically.

• Pre-rendered Backgrounds with fixed camera-angles; the classic staple of many 90s horror games
  
• The graphics I think for its time were considered pretty good back then, nowadays they are nostalgic. I love the old Playstation / Dreamcast graphics, they have a certain charm about them.
  
• Musical tunes that are both gloomy and creepy but also hilariously overdramatic at times. The dead silence in some areas added to the dreadful atmosphere the game tries to swallow you with
  
• Puzzles scattered thoughout the different areas/maps requiring solving to progress; an aspect I severly miss nowadays with the newer Resident Evil games
  
• The dialogues and cutscenes are cheesy and cringe but I find that is not even a negative thing! Quite the contrary, it's a nostalgic gem of how many 90s actionmovies and horrorgames used to be! I find it interesting how this game used both game-engine-cutscenes but also scenes filmed with actors/actresses.
  
• The shotgun was an absolute beast in the original! Aiming up always blasted the zombies' heads into oblivion, in the Remake it did not always work even when timing it right. Interesting!

• No official SteamDeck-Support without using experimental Proton-modes and/or mods. It seems unlikely they will add that but it would have been amazing...

First time playing and this game has aged way better than I thought it would. Tank controls took getting used to but the gameplay still holds up and was really fun once I got used to them.

As someone that has only played og re4 onward I thought I would be at risk of getting softlocked from either lack of ammo, running out of saves, needing a guide, or somehow missing a chance of getting a key item and none of my fears ended up being a problem.

If you're a later fan of the series like me, I highly recommend!
