Early Access Review
I'd usually complain about excessive review bombing because it doesn't make sense to criticize a game still in development so harshly. But... despite having many good things, it doesn't feel like a version 0.9 game; it's practically ready for release, just a few months or weeks away, and it seems to lack much more development than it currently has. Even so, I'm giving this review a positive rating because, while it's not a 10, it has many good points. It's not a scam or a waste of time like most of the games that have come out on Kickstarter in recent years. If I had to rate it, I feel it deserves a... I don't know, maybe a 5. The good and the bad balance it out, so that's why this review is positive, thanks to the atmosphere, the gameplay, the number of zombies, the well-RNG loot, and the innovation. They come from Chivalry, and it shows, so... let's hope it continues down the same path.

Atmospheric Perfection and a Safe Haven for the Soul

The soundtrack of Requiem is simply magnificent. It strikes a perfect balance between high-octane action and the chilling, melancholic silence the series is known for.

  • The Save Room Theme: As a fan who started with Code Veronica and the original trilogy, the Grace Save Room theme hit me hard. It captures that same feeling of "dreadful relief" from the first time I entered the Spencer Mansion as Jill. It’s a tear-jerker for anyone who understands the weight of these safe havens.

  • Action & Finale: The ending themes and combat tracks are powerful and drive the adrenaline perfectly, especially during Leon's more intense segments.

  • Steam Experience: Integrating this OST into the Steam Music Player completely changes the experience while browsing or working. I can't wait to get my hands on a Steam Deck to carry this atmosphere with me everywhere.

Verdict: A top-tier technical and emotional composition. Whether you're listening in-game or through Steam, it's a 10/10 for any Biohazard enthusiast.

A Must-Have for Lore Hunters and Old-School Fans

The Deluxe Edition is clearly designed as a bridge between the classic era and this new chapter.

While the weapon skins are standard fare, the rest of the content adds significant value for veterans:

The 1998 Archives: This is the highlight of the pack. It’s a massive lore drop and a deep-cut nostalgia trip for anyone who grew up with Resident Evil 2. Without spoiling anything, the way it ties into Leon’s history is a masterful touch.

Character Skins & Filters: The "Apocalypse" skins are high-quality, but the standout is the RE4 Leon skin. It’s perfectly implemented into the new Requiem model. On the flip side, the Grace/Lady Dimitrescu skin is brilliantly cursed; seeing Lady D’s full-scaled body with Grace’s head is as hilarious as it is iconic. The visual filters also do a great job of changing the game’s atmosphere.

Sound Swap: Swapping to the retro sound effects adds a layer of charm and comedy that makes subsequent playthroughs feel fresh.

Verdict: If you’re a long-time fan of the franchise, the 1998 archives alone make this a worthy upgrade. It’s a total fan-service package in the best way possible.

Resident Evil Requiem Review: A Love Letter for the Veterans

Personal Experience

I clocked my first run on Classic difficulty in about 16 hours (11 hours of actual playtime). I took my time soaking in every creak, sound, and animation; the atmosphere is, quite simply, masterful. After getting the Platinum on PS5 in 36 hours—a personal record, second only to my RE3 Remake run—I decided to pick it up on Steam day one. My goal now is the 100% completion on PC in under 30 hours. This game is so good I’ve already played through it 6 times.

As a fan whose favorite entry is Code Veronica (the first one I played as a kid after finding a copy in a local shop during Argentina's bootleg PS2 era), I’m proud to have supported this project by buying it twice and gifting a third copy to a great friend (SHIFOO). It’s a gem that deserves every bit of support.

Gameplay & Mechanics

The game strikes an interesting, if slightly uneven, balance:

Resource Management: The tension and extreme scarcity are concentrated in Grace’s segments, where the Survival Horror elements truly shine. The game becomes more "generous" toward the endgame.

Combat & Gunplay: Leon’s sections are the highlight. The gunplay has evolved significantly since RE4: the axe parries, melee finishers, and the beefy sound design of the shots and reloads are incredibly satisfying. Each chapter introduces a new combat flow, keeping the experience fresh.

Economy: The "Kill Points" system, redeemable for cash at supply crates, is a clever and modern adaptation of the classic Merchant system.

The Downside: Unfortunately, the bosses are generally weak in terms of mechanics and don't quite live up to the challenge the rest of the game provides.

Story, Lore & Characters

This is an ambitious, fan-service-heavy title, though it makes some controversial narrative choices:

Nostalgia: Reading Marvin’s notes still brings a tear to my eye. The hype of seeing "The Grim Reaper" (Hunk) and "the guy with the shades" (Wesker) appear was off the charts.

The Spencer Factor: This is my biggest gripe. It’s hard to buy that an elitist sociopath like Spencer—the root of all evil in the series—would have a change of heart. It feels out of character given the established lore.

Zeno & Wesker’s Legacy: Craig Burnatowski delivers a flawless performance. Gideon referring to him as an "imitation" confirms he’s a clone or a successor. While he serves his purpose, I would have loved to see more depth to his character.

Hunk (The 4th Survivor): Bringing back the original Japanese VA from RE2 is a top-tier detail. However, "killing" him felt like a mistake—Hunk should remain a mystery. The fact that his body disappears afterward suggests he’s still out there, which makes way more sense.

Final Verdict
Do I recommend it? Absolutely, but mostly for the fans. If you use this as an introductory game, you’ll likely be lost in the sea of references and complex subplots. Despite some "convenient" writing (like Emily’s survival) and rough narrative patches, the technical quality and atmospheric respect for the franchise are outstanding.

Score: 9.7/10. Technical masterpiece, slightly held back by narrative choices in the late game.
