8/10. overall a flawed, yet great adaptation of the game, the new content (namely the bosses) are a fantastic addition, the difficulty tweaks make the game way more engaging, the new OST (for the most part) hold up on its own as an overall good alternative, despite ACC's original score for the game still being the preferable soundtrack. there's a handful of bugs though that should be fixed.
BUT my biggest gripe with this game is actually how the credit sequence was handled (in the special ending to be exact). while the new song choice replacing somewhere over the rainbow fits well and i dont have any issues with that, having the credits show over a black background and not letting the visuals of said credits linger (if you know, you know) really hurt the ending as a whole imo. would be FAR more effective if they showed the credits over the visuals instead of briefly showing said visuals before cutting to the credits in a black void for most of it.
overall, this remaster is best enjoyed after playing the original 3.0 english translation of the game found on the wiki. it may be no risk of rain returns in terms of being a remaster so good it usurps the original as the ideal way to experience it, but its still a valid way to enjoy such an iconic game.
