Since I am surrounded by music every day (both kids play in various groups and orchestras, bassoon and violin) I took particular note of the musical meaning of resolve:
'to progress from a dissonance to a consonance.'
Dissonance: A simultaneous combination of tones conventionally accepted as being in a state of unrest and needing completion. Incongruous, lacking harmony of parts.
Consonance: a simultaneous combination of tones conventionally accepted as being in a state of repose. Accord, agreement, harmony.
I want to progress from one state to the other - knowing full well that in life, as in music, it is a continuous process. After all, that's what makes the tension and contrast in life and keeps it interesting! But oh, I could use some completion...and harmony!
Practically speaking,in my home life and creative life this means: Make sure the family has what it needs. Take one half hour each morning to consider.....(a big one that) Take small steps, each one completed before the next one is started. Write down the process, so things may be repeated. Get sleep and take care of myself. Less computer time.
Sorry to be away so long, it's been a long haul. Can't leave without pictures...

excellent -
i have been feeling the need to pull back as well (ok, sick kids and deadlines have demanded it)...
what an absolutely beautiful word - especially when the nuances of the definition are made clear... i have been thinking on harmony quite a bit... but 'resolve'? packs so much more...
Oh Clarie, first of all I admire your work that is so special and surprising. You are so talented!! Sounds like you are in the middle of what is called LIFE. Finding that balance is surely a task for all of us. I´ve used time to find what I think is the right balance - only to find out that there is only one that counts: My own. Take the time you need - and now that you are a true inspiration in blogland no matter how many blog posts you write.Thank you for sharing!!!
Thank you all for taking the time to write such thoughtful comments on my post. I'm having trouble forming my thoughts into real and coherent language lately - largely because of change and chaos - so I'm relieved and grateful that you understood something from my ramblings. It's a dilemma for us all, that elusive balance....
Your work is so beautiful. Hang on in there and you will find your balance.
I find that even if I cannot find a perfect balance in my personal or emotional life, if I trust the work, I will see issues resolve as I create. My ability to craft is not affected if I just trust that and let it take center stage. It's a place to go that has energy and hope, a bright place. And your new work amply demonstrates that! I love the finials on the ends of the pods!
"Resolve"... exactly, yes. Thank you for these inspiring words, Claire. For several reasons I have also needed some time off recently. Change and chaos have so many different faces.
Claire, I gave you the Versatile Blogger Award, but I would totally understand if you didn't want to accept it. However, you can find more informations about it onmy blog. Take care!
