Fix problems loading a book

Use this page to troubleshoot if your book:
  • Doesn’t download
  • Doesn’t open
  • Won’t load a page
If you use a Google Account managed by your work or school, books may not load. Contact your organization's technical staff for more information.

Step 1: Check your connection and updates

  1. Make sure your Android phone or tablet is connected to Wi-Fi or a mobile network.
  2. Check that your Play Books app is updated to the latest version.

Step 2: Remove & re-download the book

  1. To remove the ebook or audiobook, on the cover, tap More More  and then Remove download.
  2. To reload and open the ebook or audiobook, tap More More  and then Download Download .

Step 3: Reload the Google Play Books app

  1. On your Android phone or tablet, open the Google Play Books app Play Books.
  2. To reload the app, from the top of the homepage, pull down.

Step 4: Clear your app data

  1. Open the Play Books app Play Books. 
  2. At the top right, tap your Profile picture.
  3. Next to your name, tap the Down arrow Down arrow.
  4. Tap Manage accounts on this device and then Remove from this device and then Remove.
  5. Tap Sign in and then Continue. Follow the prompts to sign back in.
