Behind The Music of “SEEK”
SYNDICATE worked with film composer, Kevon Cronin, to record and mix the music score for 75 minute feature film, “Seek” - directed by Eric Henry. The set-up and processes for this project were unique. The music is a combination of electronic elements, an orchestral string section, and a piano. The challenge was to create a line of communication between composer, Kevon Cronin, and the conductor so that they could chat back and forth and discuss any changes or takes while listening to the recordings in real-time.

We were able to view and monitor a feed of the orchestra as they performed at Smecky Music Studios in Prague via an online webcam broadcast from inside the studio and listening via Source Connect. Using Skype, we established a group chat session including Kevon, the engineers at Syndicate, the conductor, and engineer at Smecky Music Studios, making it simple to discuss any technical details, or changes.
After monitoring the session, the recorded files were sent to Syndicate in Toronto where they were edited and mixed with the electronic elements Kevon had created. The music was then mixed and mastered by Jeff Moberg and John Clarke in 5.1 surround sound.
Big smiles all around during playback of the final mix as nothing sounds as rich as real musicians! Keep an eye (and ear) out for “Seek” as it makes its way to festivals.
