Intercessors of Fenris (Part 6)

My attention returns now to the second squad of Intercessors that I started some time back. In the last post of this series,  Intercessors Part 5,  you can see the completed models of the first squad. Or were they the second? The first Primaris models I built, back in Intercessors-of-Fenris-part-1, are the miniatures featured in this post. Somehow I got the other ones done first, but if you hang around on this blog long enough you'll see that this is typical of me...

"Don't look, but there's a Dreadnought behind us..."

Here is a pic taken back in Novemer of 2018. Only the bases and the armor's basecoats were done. I had dabbled on them somewhere in between because they ended up with Fire Dragon Orange for their yellow basecoats and Khorne Red for their Red basecoats on their respective pauldrons.

Shadow Grey Basecoats.
After too much neglect I felt the urge to work on them a bit more. Adding Russ Grey for a midcoat on the armor I was eager to get them done so I pushed on.

Russ Grey Midcoats.
Next I used Space Wolf Grey as the third layer, which gives them a nice frosty look. I critically low on this color and I am desperately searching for an analog for this color...I curse myself for not buying more of this when I had the chance, but then I simply never foresaw that color being discontinued after being around for over two decades.

Running out of time, and with attention needed on my 2-D pursuits, I have reached a stopping point. One of the things I am pondering in the interim is the small shield on this guy's arm. I like it a lot and I want to do something different on it. I may stick a decal on it, but due to it's size my options are limited. Maybe just the pack marking color or a personal heraldry? Not sure, but I am willing to entertain any ideas you lot might have, so feel free to leave me a comment.

Sorry, "YOUR AD HERE" has been vetoed already.

Hopefully there will be another update sooner than later!

Intercessors of Fenris (Part 5)

Pack One is done!

Continuing on from last time, I have managed to finish the first Pack! They were almost done in that last post with exception to just a few minor details.

Sergeant is done, bling and all.
I used a newer decal set than what I had originally thought I would use, and with the help of Microset, I was done with very little fuss. The newer transfers activate faster and didn't fight me nearly as much as their older kin.

Decal applied to shoulder pad.

Over all, I am pleased with how this first set of Space Wolf Primaris Marines have turned out. My traditional paint scheme took some tweaks but the results leave me wanting to do some more.

Wolf Tail in two colors.

A few of these guys have Genestealer skills. These were painted with a bine color before being washed with Druchii Violet, then lightly dry brushed with Bleached Bone before getting a subtle highlight of White Scar. The teeth were particularly picked out with the White Scar.

Another 'stealer skull.

I confess, I got lazy with the Wolf Tails. These were painted black and dry brushed with White Scar. I just varried the concentration from light to heaviest with the heaviest being towards the tip of the tail. Hey, it works!

Touch-ups added to the first guy that was done.

Middenland Tufts were added to the bases after the decals were done. And that was a wrap!
Feel'n tuft!

Group shot!
Last thing: I decided to add the traditional wolf  skull campaign badges to their legs. They didn't fit or look right on the front greaves, where I would have preferred them to be, but they look decent enough on the back of the legs.

Campaign badge!
Now on to the next set of five...

Intercessors of Fenris (Part 4)

I have been picking and poking at these guys since the holidays. They are almost done!  What follows are the steps that got me this far.
Almost done!

Here is the Sergeant for squad one, getting his mid-coats applied. It's one of the few times that I used my Citadel Hobby Handle, or remembered to take a photo while the model was still mounted on it.

Mid-coats applied.
And here he is again with Bugman's Glow as a flesh basecoat and Mournfang Brown for the hair.
Sgt with mid-coats.

The other three (unfinished) guys from this squad got their mid-coats done also.  Here  they await the final stages...

Waiting for their completion...
As I painted these guys, I seemed to paint the trio of regular troopers together and focus on the Sergeant separately. This has worked out well I think. Here he is with his armor painted up to the top color, Space Wolves Grey, and with his flesh painted with Cadian Flesh.

Space Wolves Grey.
Here they are as collective, awaiting the final highlights and details.

Last steps before highlighting.
The Sergeant has his armor highlighted with White Scar, and his flesh is painted with Kislev Flesh. The only thing left to do is pick put a few details (gem stone, the skulls on the base, etc.). The others are now up to this level also (see top pic). I think I have to pause here, but the next post in this series should see this squad completed.

... almost done!

Intercessors of Fenris (Part 3)

I kicked off the New Year by completing the first model out of the 10 Intercessors. I'll tell you more about that model soon, but I also made some more progress on these guys:

Basecoats!

And more basecoats!
Once all the basecoats were done, I decided I wanted to take one of these models all the way to the finish; At least to the point of decal application, as I like to do them all at the same time (it's set-up thing).

Mid-coats.
All-in-all, the model painted up fairly fast. I used Russ Grey for the mid-coats, thinning it first before applying a thicker line near to the edges. The edges were brightened up with a dabbling of thinned Space Wolf Grey  before being highlighted with a thin line of White Scar.

Pretty much done.

I wanted to  break away from the typical pack markings that I use, and individualize each pack of five Primaris Marines. I designated this Primaris Intercessor pack as Pack 1, so one black fang on a field of red seemed to work well for this distinction.

Pack marking angle.
The only thing left to do on this guy are the decals and flock,  but again, I'll get to those steps when I finish the other nine Intercessors...

Intercessors of Fenris (Part 2)

I was recently able to do some more work on the new recruits for my Space Wolves. I worked up the bases for the Intercessors, but while doing so I found that I had the desire to double-up and so I built another squad.

More recruits.

This are the starter guys from the starter set. I built these guys and applied a few Space Wolf flourishes (or do you guys prefer "accessories"?). So after I glued gravel, and a few skulls, to their bases it was time to prime them. But I needed a new place for priming models. Finding some unused cinder blocks and a slate from a recently retired (i.e. destroyed) dog house, I created this Alter of Priming.*

The Alter of Priming.
OK, so before I get called out on it, the first sacrifice to the Alter of Priming, if you can tell from the big green spot, was actually the Dreadtober Blood Axe Dreadnought. I just didn't think about taking pics or discussing it until I was about to start priming miniatures for this project.

The Primaris Marines await their priming.
After the primer was fully dried I decided to just jam out a single marine. Sadly I didn't get further than the basecoat, but so far I am digging how it looks like this may turn out. Hopefully by the time I post Part 3 this model will be finished.

*It can only hope to aspire to achieve the legendary status of The Brick of Scrutiny. -Gotta have goals!

Intercessors of Fenris (Part 1)

Greetings! Recently I split a boxed set of Tooth and Claw with Doctor TSG taking the Space Wolf half. I originally wasn't going to incorporate the Primaris into my aging Space Wolves force, having decided a year ago to use them with my Ultramarines instead. But the decision to split a set ot Tooth and Claw, and the release of the 8th Edition Space Wolves Codex have changed my mind. I like the fluff aspects of them being reluctantly accepted into the Space Wolf ranks and the majority of them traveling to Fenris to take the Test of Morkai to prove their worthiness. So despite the fact they are not true Fenrisians, it is cool that they are embracing the styles and customs in an effort to assimilate properly into the Space Wolf ranks.

The gathering.
I really enjoyed building these guys. Despite their limited options, I was taken back by how advanced the multipart Intercessors kit is. The squad leader has a lot of arm choices especially.

Spuad Leader.
My favorite guy is probably the auxiliary grenade launcher. His pose seems to me to be the most aggressive. Also, it is nice to see the auxiliary grenade launcher return after all this time.

This guy came out good too. I think this is a Mordheim head from the old Mordheim boxed set. Regardless, I think it looks good. This Intercessor has fully embraced the Fenrisian style.

This guy is the most standard looking one of the group.  I call him Steve. I chose to arm these guys with standard Bolt Rifles as they seem to be the most versatile option. I really like the other two options and If I get more of these guys I might make some with those options.

This guy was tricky to assemble but ultimately I sm satisfied with the results.

To make them easier to paint I am leaving their backpacks off for now.

I added some bitz from the Space Wolf Primaris Upgrade sprue. The leader of this pack has gotten the bulk of the goodies.

Extra heads are nice for an assortment of different things and since my first RTB01 marines back in '89, I like to put a helm on the belt of the bare-headed marines. Too often you'll see Space Wolves modelled or depicted in art without their helmets and I marvel at the wreckless and vain nature of this practice.

That is it for now, weather and time permitting, I hope to get these guys into the painting queue soon.
