February Progress 2013

D'oh, I just deleted all the comments from my previous post instead of publishing them.  I wish blogger came with an "undo" feature!

Bobbin lace:
I whipped up a small little something earlier in the month.  I also bought a frame for it - one of the few (actually I mean only) piece that I am planning on framing.  It's kind of strange because it's not even a nice piece of lace, but it reminds me of the dachshund, and that's all that matters.

I am also steadily working on my current WIP.  It's a little larger than the last few pieces I have made, but it's coming along.

Tatting:
Not much tatting to show, but I have been tatting as well!

I dabbled a bit with metallic threads again and completed two projects, one of which I am counting towards the second round of 25 motif challenge.

I also completed another small beaded piece which is on its way to its recipient - I should have it posted soon.  As long as I remembered to scan it before mailing it...

Although I won't have anything to show for a while, I did also work on two of my long-term WIPs.

Puncetto:
Puncetto is so much fun to make!  I finally picked up needle again and made this small little square.  Not long after it was finished, I started a second one.  The second one is almost done, so hopefully I will post that one soon as well.

Motif No. 40

This is Miniature Snowflake from Tatted Snowflakes by Vida Sunderman made with Kreinik braid No. 4.  I was running out of thread on my shuttle towards the end so in the final clover, I decreased the size of each ring by 2 stitches.  It may not sound like much, but if I had not done that, I would have run out of thread in the last ring.  I was not about to add thread for one ring if I could help it!

The one change I made in execution of the pattern is that I threw the center ring off one of the first chain.  It seemed like starting with the center ring like the pattern calls for would make make it hard to sew in the ends.

The snowflake measures just over 1 inch across.

Puncetto

I recently picked up puncetto again.  I forgot how much fun it is to make!  Considering I haven't touched it in about 1 year, I was amazed by how much I remembered.  Granted I did review the basics of making the knots before picking up a needle, but it was much easier than I had remembered.

A few rows past the center of the spider, I figured out why mine looks wonky.  As long as I remember what to do next time, it should look better!

Made with DMC Cebelia 30, the square measures ~ 1.5 inches across.

Blogger is driving me crazy these days.  Now in order to post pictures, the extension has to be part of the  name.  As a mac user, I see this as totally unnecessary!

Alladin - metallic

I was organizing my box of threads whenI came across the metallic DMC floss threads I had used a few years ago to make tatted snowflakes.  Although finicky at times, I like working with metallic thread and the skeins were already split, so I decided to use them again.

Alladin was fun to make, so I decided to try making it with metallic thread with a few minor modifications.  I omitted some of the decorative picots on the large ring and I climbed from the first round into the second with a split ring.  The reason I omitted picots on the large rings was because I miscounted, but I really didn't have to mention that!  I think it looks nice either way.

Made with 1 strand of DMC metallic floss.

Dachshund

In memory of an extremely sweet and gentle dachshund that had to be put to sleep recently.  She was not my dog, but I will miss her very much.

Another small bobbin lace mat

I started this little mat right at the end of last year and managed to complete it fairly quickly.  I have never made this pattern before, but it is similar to a larger piece that I have made a few times in the past.

Now the patterns is off the pillow, I can say I like it, but I was not saying that while making it.  It was not much fun to work at all!  The pattern is not well drawn out so it seems like every quarter was worked slightly differently.  I also tried working the corners using different methods and still am not sure of the best way for each corner.  It does not help that in most cases the corner that wold make the most sense cannot be used due to the way the pattern is drawn.

The piece is ~ 5 in in diameter.

Quantiesque - take 2

I liked Jon's pattern Quantiesque so much the first time I made it, that I decided to make it again!  In order to make is slightly different, I used a different shade of gold beads.

In the first snowflake I used pale gold colored beads and in the second one I used yellow-gold beads.  As I was about halfway through the second snowflake, I realized that the yellow gold beads would have looked better with ecru thread.  Even though I like the pattern (a lot!), I don't currently have any plans to remake it in ecru with yellow/gold beads.  For now.

Made with DMC special dentelles 80 in white with random/unknown seed beads.
