"Todo empezó con catorce años en la carnicería de mi madre. Allí inicié mi carrera laboral haciendo las mejores hamburguesas del mercado, un trabajo que compaginaba con mis estudios en Artes. Al terminar me decidí por la Fotografía y estudié durante cuatro años en el Institut d’Estudis Fotogràfics de Catalunya, (BCN). En el año 2002 gané el premio Lux Junior, otorgado por la AFP, con la serie ‘Bailando’. He realizado varias exposiciones, tanto individuales como colectivas. En 2005 fui seleccionada por Descubrimientos de Photoespaña con la serie ‘Contigo aprendí’. En la actualidad compagino mi trabajo como Editora Gráfica de la revista lamono (http://www.lamonodigital.net/ ) con el de fotógrafo freelance".

"It all started when I was fourteen years old in my mum’s butcher’s shop. I started my professional career there, doing the best burguers at the Market, a job that i combined with my studies in Arts. After finishing these, I decided to study Photography for four years in the Institut d’Estudis Fotogràfics de Catalunya, (BCN). In 2002 I earn a prize Lux Junior from the APF ‘Bailando’ work. I participated to some personals and collective exhibitions. On 2005 - I was selected at ‘Descubrimientos’ Photoespaña ’05 with the work ‘Contigo aprendí’. I am currently working as a Photo Editor for Lamono magazine www.lamonodigital.net and as an freelance photographer".

Guy Borremans born in July 11, 1934, emigrated from Belgium to Montreal in the mid-fifties and established himself as one of the best cinematographers in Quebec. A significant contributor to the development of direct cinema in the NFB=s French Unit in the early sixties, he continued to play a key role in the Quebec social documentary in the seventies and eighties.

After working as a photographer in Belgium, Borremans found work in Montreal as a press photographer and had his first solo photography exhibit in 1956. He became involved in the group of automatistes led by Paul-Émile Borduas and decided to use photography as a creative weapon. He directed the remarkable experimental film La Femme-image (1960), the first independent drama made in Quebec, then joined the NFB in 1961 and within two years had shot or directed eighteen films.

He moved to Paris in 1963 to work in French television and to New York City in 1965 to work for the United Nations Film Department, National Educational Television (NET), as well as Movietone and private-sector production companies. He moved back to Montreal in 1968, and worked in still photography in both Canada and Europe until 1971. He also taught film and photography at the University of Montreal, Moncton University and Concordia University. He returned to cinematography on Arthur Lamothe=s Le Mépris n’aura qu’un temps (1970) and Gilles Groulx=s 24 heures ou plus... (1977), and thereafter shot many notable social documentaries B particularly Lamothe=s films on the Montagnais Indians B some fiction films and documentary dramas.

Borremans has contributed to more than forty productions and has held thirty-three solo exhibitions of his photography. Especially memorable examples of his work include: Groulx=s Golden Gloves (1961) and Un jeu si simple (1964), Clément Perron=s Jour après jour (1962), Hubert Aquin=s À Saint-Henri le cinq septembre (1962), Lamothe=s Bûcherons de la Manouane (1962) Gilles Carle=s Dimanche d=Amérique (1961) and Percé on the Rocks (1964), and Don Owen=s Toronto Jazz (1964).

*HERBERT TOBIAS* (ALEMANIA, 1924-1982)

Herbert Tobias es uno de los fotógrafos alemanes más importantes del período posterior a la guerra. La primera vez que se hizo conocido por sus fotografías de moda no convencional fue en París y Berlín en la década de 1950 y 60. Hoy en día, es famoso sobre todo por sus fotografías de paisajes urbanos atmosféricos, sus retratos y sus sutiles imágenes eróticas de hombres.

Sus fotografías están llenas de poesía, la sensualidad y de poder sugestivo.

La fotografía de moda glamorosa de Tobías y sus retratos impresionantes de los jóvenes Klaus Kinski, Zarah Leander e icónicos como Velvet Underground son ampliamente conocidos en la actualidad. Sin embargo, su nombre ha sido olvidado.

Herbert Tobias is born in Dessau in 1924. He grows up in a petit bourgeois household and begins taking photographs as a child. His aim of becoming an actor remains unfulfilled after the early death of his father in 1936. He completes an apprenticeship as a landscape surveyor instead and is called up to national service in 1942. Initial photographs of stunning artistic maturity are taken on the eastern front during World War II.

After the war, Tobias spends a year at drama school and subsequently meanders across provincial Germany with a touring theatre company.

He comes out in the late forties. In 1951, he moves to Paris with his boyfriend, where he occasionally works for the famous fashion photographer Willy Maywald and publishes his own photographs for the first time. His win in the Frankfurter Illustrierte cover page contest suddenly makes him famous. He moves to Berlin in 1954, where he spends the most successful years of his career. Tobias works for renowned fashion labels and various magazines. He also completes many independent assignments, including cityscapes, celebrity portraits and, above all, photographs of men.

At the peak of his career he goes off the rails, tries himself again as an actor and singer, but virtually loses all touch with society due to his unsteady, erotomanic life style that is filled with excessive drug abuse. He goes to Hamburg in 1969, designs record sleeves for various music labels and works for gay magazines. An exhibition in the Galerie Nagel in Berlin in 1981, for which Tobias re-prints the photographs he took in the fifties and sixties, ushers in the photographer’s rediscovery. He is unable to complete a planned and far advanced project for a book. In August 1982, he dies of Aids in Hamburg.
