JULIET TOMATOES

Hello everyone,
Since I last published a post HERE, I have been busy with family matters.
On July 5th my husband had an emergency.  He went to the hospital with
low heart rate and was in 3rd-degree heart block.  July 6th he had a pacemaker
placed in his heart.  I had to put blogging on the back burner.
On a lighter note or not the weather has been so hot here in Northern California.
I have been doing more chores around the house.  Thank goodness I am in good
health and love my husband with all my heart. My garden has been holding its own
these past few weeks. Today was the first day I have picked up my camera.
In April I attended a Garden and Flower Show.  While I was walking around
I stopped by a delightful vendor selling JULIET TOMATOES.  I bought
One plant and carried it home in a little brown bag.  I planted the small tomato plant
in my flower bed next to the fern grotto in the patio. I spray painted a metal tomato rack green
I bought at ACE Hardware.
Deep red, shiny 2-inch oblong tomatoes in large clusters of 12-18 fruits
Flavor is rich and delicious
Very disease resistant and easy to grow.
We usually have a garden with tomatoes, bell peppers, and squash.
But, with my husband suffering from symptoms of his heart block
he has had a difficult time gardening this year.
I love to go out and pick juicy tomatoes for lunch and dinner salads.
Hopefully, I will be able to get back to posting more often. Our son's
and families will be visiting the next couple of weekends.
They want to come and give their dad a BIG HUG.
Thank you so much for visiting My Cozy Corner.
Joyously,
Betty

April Garden Journal

Hello everyone,
Wow!!! It"s been awhile since I've posted on my blog.
The last time I posted was about two weeks ago.
I've been busy setting up for my two-day garage sale.
It takes me a week to get ready for the sale.
I have just finished disposing of my mother's
treasures.  She passed away in November 2012, and it
took me four and a half years to process my grief
I had dishes, nick knacks, linens and household items.
The weather has been rainy, and I need to get outside and
weed two more flower beds. I did walk outside yesterday
and took a few photos of my garden in April.
"Coral Bells"
"Pigs Squeak Plant"
This week I am busy playing with my husband at Car Show and Shines.
We have a 1937 modified Chevrolet, which we enter in a cruise ride
this Friday night. The good old days are here again.
We love to participate in vintage car shows.
"Indian Chief" Heirloom Iris
We moved into this house in 1969, and I met a fellow growing
patent Iris, I gathered up a cardboard box of bulbs to
plant in the same place they grow today.
INDIAN CHIEF, 1929
With velvety, wine-red falls and glowing standards of raspberry to bronze, this tall, striking, Jazz Age iris is one of the most colorful we grow. It’s exceptionally vigorous, too, thriving on neglect in old gardens everywhere and blooming even in part shade. By the good Dr. Wylie Ayres
This is my new favorite plant. I have tried to grow Clematis forever.
I bought a plant last summer and was so surprised when I saw
the first bloom this spring. Every day another bloom opens up.

"White Eden Climber"

Climbing Rose
Rounded, deeply cupped, full flowers of creamy white and suffused with pink most intensely at the edge of the rose.
Time for tea in the Rose Garden. (When it stops raining) with my angel.
I have pinned "April Garden Journal" on Pinterest.
Thank you for visiting.
Joyously,
Betty

It's the Little Things that Matter in March

Hello everyone,
Oh, Happy Day... I have had a wonderful week.
First, we celebrated my husband's 75th birthday last Saturday.
Our family gathered together for a reunion.
Our children and granddaughters all live in different cities,
and it's so much fun to get together every six months or so
and share our lives and our love for each other.
Spring is in full swing here in Northern California.
Friday (St. Patrick's Day) I traveled to
San Francisco to visit the Flower Mart and
The De Young Museum for the annual Bouquets to Art 2017.
What a beautiful day we enjoyed in the fabulous city of
San Francisco. I will share pictures later this week.
Speaking of our family reunion, I found a perfect written piece,
about how I feel regarding my family.
Family Is One of Life's
Greatest Gifts
The best feeling in this world
is family.
From it, we draw love,
friendship, moral support,
and the fulfillment of every
special need within our hearts.
In a family, we are connected to
an ever-present source
of sunny moments, smiles and laughter,
understanding and encouragement,
and hugs that help us grow
in confidence all along life's path.
Wherever we are,
whatever we're doing.
whenever we really need to feel
especially loved, befriended,
supported, and cared for
in the greatest way,
we can turn to family
and find the very best
always waiting for us.
~Barbara J. Hill
Today I am so full of gratitude to live each day
with a thankful heart.
Hope you have a great sunny day and please come back soon.
Joyously,
Betty

75th Birthday with Family

Hello everyone,
Saturday, we celebrated my husband's 75th birthday. Our family
gathered together for an afternoon of fun and games.
We have a kitchen outside, and my husband prepared
a traditional St. Patrick Day's dinner.
Some of the family is peeling onions for our meal.
Our son is jumping rope, while his wife and two
granddaughters watch in amazement.
The baby granddaughter is showing everyone how easy
to jump rope, while another granddaughter watches.
The oldest granddaughter is playing toss the washer,
and her dad, aunt, and cousins watch.
I love to take a family portrait every time we have a family reunion.
I love these people♥
This is so silly! We are singing Happy Birthday before
hubby blows out the forest fire in his cake. LOL.
He is contemplating how to blow out the candles.
Smokescreen. LOL
He received many heart-warming cards and fabulous gifts
to fit his sense of humor. I love this hat with lights.
My granddaughter took this photo of us together.
I just can't believe we are both 75 years old.
What a journey we have had and are still enjoying today.
This post is dedicated to our family.
Love you all so much.
Mom and Dad.

Decorate a Birthday Cake from the Bakery

Hello everyone,
This weekend we celebrated my husband's 75th birthday and family reunion.
Later this week I will share more with you in another blog post.
My daughter purchased the chocolate moose cake with plain chocolate frosting from Costco.
The birthday guy loves NASCAR and my creative daughter and granddaughters
decorated the frosted chocolate cake with the cake decorations, I bought them
from Wal-Mart.
My shopping list included:
A box of 48 candles
Small package of M and M's candy
White decorating frosting
Red decorating frosting
Green sprinkles
A small bag of Black Fondant
Two candles * the number 7 and the number 5
And a little red car.
The candles represent the spectators in the grandstands at the race track.
M and M candies are the pit boxes
The black fondant made the race track, and the white
frosting is the white line and the checkered finish line.
Green sprinkles cover white icing to represent green grass.
The red decorating icing trims the race track.
The number candles laid on the green grass, and the party started.
The candles are lite, and this guy with COPD
is ready to blow out the candles.
I didn't get a fire permit, but I thought about it.
We had a great celebration. I hope this tutorial about personalizing your
cake will come in handy one day.
Sometimes we just don't have time to bake a
big cake, and creative granddaughters love to help.
Thank you for joining our party.
Joyously,
Betty
