scrapbytes: may-june '08 issue

the scrapbytes ezine is up!

it got a bit delayed due to the heavy preparations we had to do in may for the scrapfest. but it was all worth it. scrapbytes is jampacked with lots of articles and layouts which we hope will inspire everyone.

here are the projects i did that were featured...

title: mama, you're the best

this is for our "same products, 5 ways" article. this was a "mother's day" layout feature.

materials were sponsored by visual creations.

hidden journal placed behind photo under the heart buttons.

supplies used: patterned papers - crate paper; chipboard - heidi swapp, american crafts; rub-ons - american crafts; felt - fancy pants; fiber; ink - whispers; sizzlits; bling

title: love you dad!

this is for our "same products, 5 ways" article. this was a "tribute to dads" layout feature

materials for this was sponsored by lasting impression.

journaling: dad, this is one of those few times when we have our photo taken together. have i told you how much i love you? i never get the chance to say it often, but I really do! i've always looked up to you for guidance as i was growing up. and you continue to show us that you are the BEST father there is!

supplies used: patterned papers: fancy pants papa collection; buttons & flowers: making memories; brads: karen foster; alpha: american crafts; thread

title: this is me

this is an altered art project that i did for the monthly challange.

this is the first time i tried altering a canvass and it's a lot of fun!

i used the wire mesh to create texture for my canvass. i laid it on the canvass, brushed acrylic paint at random, then i removed it before it dried. as for the "me" on the title, i painted it with acrylic paint, poured glitter over it then poured diamond glaze after.

materials used: canvass; patterned paper - urban lily; acrylic paint - making memories; wire mesh; paper flowers - prima; transparency - rusty pickle; letter sticker - making memories; chipboard - basic grey, fancy pants; diamond glaze; bling; stamp - hero arts; ink - stazon; glitter

post scrapfest5 chika

well, the dust has already settled from scrapfest5. it is the most successful scrapfest we've ever mounted since scrappin' moms started almost 3 years ago. i've been "officially" a scrappin' mom for only a year and a half but have been helping out with the scrapfest since the start. i'm just so grateful that i've gained very good friends through this hobby. wouldn't have wanted it any other way.

going back... so we did the scrapfest at max's again. less logistical concerns to worry about despite the distance. we set-up the night before and was back again early, may 17 for the event.

this is the first scrapfest that most of the "scrappin' dads" actually pitched in to help/work as well. aside from being the official photographers of the event, meng & jeff set-up their new studio, orient light studio, for an on-the-spot studio shot set-up. buddy helped us out the night before as well and supported ria with his presence again at the event.

my dear nelo was the assigned videographer of the day! i actually assigned him that position. lol! he didn't have a choice. he did enjoy it am sure. magnolia was one of our sponsors and he confessed that he kept coming back to the booth for the free ice cream. lol! talk about immediate rewards!

the shopping spree for the attendees was a given already. but prior to lunch, that was when the day's activities started kicking in. we started with the mini-book demo and we taught some stamping techniques using absolument stamps. it stopped for lunch break, then it was iris' turn to demo some special techniques. it was back to the mini-book again after that and onwards to the mini-book cover challenge. everyone was glued in to their seats as they followed through the demo and the challenge.

next was the layout challenge. they were divided into the newbies and advanced categories. wow! looking at the entries after that was amazing! such huge talent overflowing that day. you can hear a pin drop during the challenge proper as everyone was so engrossed with their work.

it was such a headache choosing the winners in all the categories. note that we had special awards and not just one main winner. so you can just imagine all six of us scrappin' moms walking back & forth in front of the table trying to decide which layouts we liked best.

but it was all worth it!

seeing the anticipation on everyone's faces, waiting for the winners' names to be announced. priceless!

it was a tiring day but it was much fun. and the reward was more of fulfillment knowing that you made everyone happy with the event. kind words and a pat on the back from fellow scrappers commending the scrappin' moms for a job well done made it all worth it.

until the next scrapfest!

"favorite photos"

this is a sample of the layout i made for the scrapfest5 mini-book challenge last may 17.

absolument scrap was our major sponsor so we focused on stamping techniques for this project.

i had to rush finishing this a few days before the scrapfest.

basically, we used white cardstock as the base. we tried out a different size this time. we focused on a 6x12 format with a vertical orientation.
stamping techniques we used were: create a pattern using stamps; create a masked pattern; spotlight stamping; and kiss stamping with a twist. other techniques: doodling; stamping on clear buttons; create an embellishment using felt; and create embellishments using stamps among others.

shoreline, corpus christi, texas

working mom - march issue

i wasn't able to post this earlier.

i was assigned the march issue for the scrappin' mom projects with working mom magazine. we were assigned to do the design for the editorial pages and the special project.

for the month of march, i created an altered clipboard. here are the photos of the magazine (thanks to nelo for holding the magazine for me! lol!):

loads of great articles and great layouts for inspiration.

Believe in the incredible power
Of the human mind
Of doing something that makes a difference

scrapbooking in the philippines

this is a feature about the scrapbooking industtry here in the philippines.

this was posted in scrapscene.

it is about time that people realize the potential of the scrapbooking industry in the philippines. more importantly, that people from other countries realize the enormous talent that is present here.

i thank joanne for being instrumental in the development of this special feautre.

i commend scrapscene for a well written article.

let me just add that some updates on that article was the fact that one of our friends, iris, was chosen as a memory makers master for 2008. her great talent continues to inspire fellow filipinas like me in to push ourselves to be better in this craft.

a look back at scrapfest 4

two weeks have almost passed since scrapfest 4 last october 6.

a lot has been said and shared already about the scrapfest by my fellow scrappin' moms, the participants and the idols. i am quite happy that all the feedbacks were positive and it makes my heart swell with pride.

let me just share a few of my own personal thoughts on this successful event.

after the 3rd scrapfest last may, april, mia and joanne, have decided to include me, along with ria and pia into the scrappin' moms. it was an honor to be chosen to join the group moreso since these girls are also my friends and they are the first few people i ever got close to when i decided to start scrapbooking.

we thought we had ample time to plan for the scrapfest. but 2 months prior to the event, joanne was struck by a big idea. she wanted a scrappin' moms idol as the highlight of the scrapfest 4.

we knew it was going to be a big task. but who are we to argue with a visionary like joanne! she started the scrappin' moms, she started the scrapfest and she can actually start an idol search like this as well.

so we all jumped into bandwagon and started to conceptualize on how we will do the scrappin' moms idol. after much discussion and countless excanges over email and ym chats, we finally launched the scrappin' moms idol. the culmination of it all would be at the scrapfest 4.

we thought things will move smoothly from there, but no, there were still a lot of things to do and we haven't even finalized everything about the actual scrapfest. from july - september, we all felt the pressure and stress of organizing for this event. the countless chat consultations and the weekend debates to answer the idol questions in the forum, up to the preparation for the main scrapfest, it was all so stressful to say the least. i think even more for april and joanne who were very much on top of everything that we are doing.

and so, the fateful day arrived, october 6. it was a relief to finally see everything that you've worked for blend together. a relief to see everyone nicely settled in on their seats or shopping around. seeing them enjoying the day away with friends and not worrying about whether they had enough elbow room to move around when they start doing the workshops and the challenges.

aside from the set-up and preparations, i was also tasked on hosting the event. it was a bit hard at times since the mic wasn't working properly, but i managed to survive the whole day of talking. i had to rest my voice when i got home for fear that i might lose it over the next week. i also facilitated the workshop for the altered art. it was a fun mini-album to do. and i think everybody enjoyed it as well.

there are still a lot but i guess it's time to share my thank you's...

joanne - i've always said, you are a visionary. none of this would have been possible if not for your big ideas. my friend, it's a bittersweet ending knowing that you will move to asutralia in a few days. but i know it's just distance we're talking about here. you'll still be with us and helping us realize our dreams for the scrapbooking community here in the philippines.

scrappin' moms: joanne, april, ria, pia, iris and sienna - you guys have made all the sweat and stress of the preparation all worth it. without you guys helping and pushing each of us, i don't we would have survived this and made it the talk of the town.

scrappin' moms idol finalists - guys you are the best! it was a gruelling 12 week journey but you all proved that you are worthy of that spot! your determination from beginning to end showed the immense creativity of the filipina scrapper. you guys make us proud!

all our suppliers - you fan our passion with all the goodies that you always bring in. your support in all oour events and activities are well appreciated. we hope to help make this an even bigger community for you guys as well.

to all scrapbookers - thank you for always supporting the scrpfest. we are here to make this community grow and we hope that we are able to exceed your expectation in every scrapfest that we do.

with all that, again, thank you for making scrapfest a success!
