Reproducing my Oil Painting in Mosaic, Daily Painting, Goody Bye Oils, Hello Mosaic!

Stuart’s Creek District Sidewalk Mosaic Program is in full swing as mosaicist #3, Carol Schiff, works to complete her dolphin design and voting is open for the fourth mosaic artist! Project coordinators, Corina Pelloni and Diane Concepcion are eager to share their wealth of knowledge with anyone who wants to explore the world of mosaic creations.  The Rickie Report gives you some sneak peeks of Carol’s work as all we information about voting for Mosaic Artist #4 and classes.

Carol is a very skilled and experienced oil painter. Mosaic art is a new medium for her. A pleasure to have in the studio, she has been working diligently on her winning design, and has really taken to mosaic art like a… dolphin to water.

Here is Carol’s original painting shown next to her work-in-progress:

Carol is a Florida oil painter who loves the coastal beaches, flora and fauna of this tropical paradise. Her second love is the Asheville/Blue Ridge Mountains area. Her art features both of these sites.

Her painting style is characterized by exciting brushwork, contrast, hues, and texture from palette knives. She skillfully applies these techniques to images of landscapes, still lifes and animals.

With a client list that includes Warner Brothers, Netflix, CBS, Disney Channel and Duke University, you may have seen one of her paintings on the screen. One painting is in the 2019 movie ‘The Joker’. A few more make appearances in popular TV shows Magnum PI and Hawaii 5-0.

To see more of her work, visit her shop on Etsy: https://www.etsy.com/shop/CarolSchiffStudio

Carol’s mosaic will be completed in a few more sessions. Then, it will be installed near Herban Botanicals on Colorado Ave, and we’ll gather to celebrate a new piece of public art in Downtown Stuart’s Creek District of Arts and Entertainment.

There’s more:

Don’t miss your opportunity to vote on the design for the 4th mosaic!

The location for this artwork will be the sidewalk at the intersection of 5th Street and A1A near Kiwanis Park. Both finalists designs are beautiful original artworks submitted by brilliant local artists, Marian Vitale and Deborah Bottorf.

Wondering  if  you’d  like  to  try  mosaic  art?

All are welcome to enter a design for consideration. When a contest is open, it will be accessible by the link above, and that’s also where information about the program can be found.

Another option is to take an intro to mosaics class. Classes are offered at Flagler Center on the first Saturday and third Wednesday of each month. You must register in advance for a workshop. Abstract Four Seasons Oil Painting - Spring, Daily Painting, Small Oil Painting, 4x12" Oil Abstract, SOLD

Remember the old "Four Seasons" series?  Almost always a tree depicted in spring, summer, fall, winter.

I had an idea, to do a take off, using only color to depict the seasons.

SOLD

I thought of new spring green grasses, robin's eggs, pink dogwood blossoms and lavender crocus, with just a touch of gray skies.

I left lots of texture for added interest.

I have to admit, I felt very "springy" when I had finished, and ready to tackle "summer"!

CREATE!!  It's good for the spirit.

Seascape Oil Painting, Ocean Wave, Caribbean Seascape, 20x24" Oil on Canvas

Lately, I have been painting seascapes.  I always love painting and viewing seascapes.  It's almost as soothing to me as a trip to the beach.

SOLD
Of course, the first step for me IS a trip to the beach.  I  pick a day with my trusty camera and head for the sand.  I count myself lucky if I get a few interesting shots.

detail
For this painting, I used images from a trip to Barbados.

It transports me to the sea each time I see it.
Isn't art wonderful?!

Thanks for viewing my art today.

On my Way to Hollywood!, Daily Painting, Small Oil Painting

An unexpected, but exciting thing has happened!

Warner Brothers has purchased one of my paintings, for set design in their new movie "Romeo".

SOLD
The movie is filming now, in Brooklyn, starring Joaquin Phoenix.  I believe it is scheduled for release in the fall of 2019.

I have been so fortunate, as I am currently under contract with CBS, to use two seascapes, in their TV series PI Magnum and Hawaii Five-O.

SOLD

SOLD
I know what you are thinking.........How did this happen?  How did they find you?

Well, both of these contacts were made through my site on Etsy.  I did nothing to attract these offers, other than regularly post on Etsy and maintain a presence online.  It can happen to you too!

Good luck!!

Apple Blossom Painting, Small Oil Painting, Daily Painting, 9x12x.75 Flower Painting SOLD

A trip to the apple orchard in Waynesville, NC provided me with plenty of reference photos.  How inspiring to see acre after acre of apple trees in full bloom!

purchase here
I am back in Waynesville, now, but there are no apple blossoms in sight...........just mile after mile of pumpkins and gorgeous Red Maple Trees in their full fall colors.

Growing up in NW Ohio, I always looked forward to fall with it's magnificent display of color.  When I moved to Florida at age 18, I didn't miss it at all.  Now that I am a grandmother of college age kids, I missed it a lot!!

Each fall, I try to spend time in the North Carolina Smoky Mountains to feed my need for autumn.

Have a colorful day!

Island Marketplace, Large Figurative Painting, 52x26x1.5" Original Painting

I consider myself to be a daily painter.  As a daily painter, most of my work is small, many times just 6x8".

My painting today is a different story at 52" x 26".  Not my largest painting ever...but right up there.

Purchase Here

I enjoy painting large, but it does present other issues.  Framing or no frame?  Such a large piece means a large investment in framing....a frame your client may or may not approve.

Where do I store it?  Not everyone has the luxury of a spacious studio.  I am one of those people.  Since downsizing, I have even less space to store unsold artwork.

The logistics of painting such a large piece, is not to be ignored.  My aging knees protest at the thought of climbing up and down a step stool to paint.

So, this piece may continue to be one of my rare, larger efforts.

Thanks for reading my blog today.

Beach Oil Painting, Seagull and Surf Art, Coastal Home Decor, Small Oil Painting, Daily Painter

I have run from the snowy mountains, to the beaches of Florida.  Lucky me, I can walk on the beach, and work at the same time.

Purchase Here
I photoed this guy, during my morning walk and painted soon after.

The birds are so conditioned to people, they barely move when you approach.  In the morning, it is all business, as they are looking for food.

We are enjoying our Florida winter on the beach.  Being a snowbird is a good thing!

Since we are on the subject of dogs...............meet Bennett

A client sent me a photo to work with on this piece.  The dog was such fun to paint.  I just knew that Bennett was high energy and fun loving.  Don't you agree?

The better the photo, the better the painting.

Beach House or Coastal Home Wall Decor, "A Crabby Day" Original Oil Painting, 9x12" , Daily Painter, Small Oil Painting, sold

This is my constant companion on my beach walks.  Always scurrying around a step or two out of reach.

It is always fun to try some new subject matter.  I tend to get in ruts with my painting.....all landscapes, or flowers, flowers, flowers.  I am constantly trying to change things up, so it was a pleasure to paint this little guy.

I remember the day I took this reference photo, although it was many years ago.  As I was painting, my mind would wander back to this beautiful day on the beach, the crashing waves and the smell of salt in the air.

This little guy took me on a journey, maybe he will do the same for you.

Thanks for reading my blog today.
