Relics. Britanan Puppeteer., Marksmen and Cannon

A small entry to add to recently completed figures for my Relics Britanans:

Puppeteer.

This sculpt also comes with a face mask but I decided to have him showing his face. I also have another Puppeteer  which I plan on painting up in a similar uniform to the highlanders as I can run him and two Highland units as a Formation.

Two units of Marksmen.

I have seen some of these painted in dark green, inspired by the Green Jackets from the Sharpes series but as teh Britanans draw more from the historical late 17th Century/ American War of Independence than the Napoleonic Era Marksmen where still dressed in red.

Canon and Crew

This is a fan created cannon and crew by Oliver Haywood who made the digital files available for free on the Relics Facebook group. They are a great set and open up some conversions for other artillery pieces or gunners for my fort or ship.
A set of test rules from when the game was owned by Tor Gaming has also been found so I will be looking at them and putting together a unit card for them to play them in the current edition.

Next on my table is a Britanan Colour Party and a unit of Highlanders

Relics, Britanan Colonel Tavistock and the Green Dragoons

His Britannic Majesty King Jorje, by the grace of the Realm, Royal Ways and other Dominions

across the seas. We do appoint you to the Rank of Colonel of Dragoons that you may serve and

protect Our Kingdom and prosecute our Will unto your last stitch and thread…

…Furthermore We do charge thee to end the pernicious and rebellious works of the traitor and

brigand known as Maverick Mike and all who would take up arms in his name.

By your designs and force of arms he is to be undone and laid before Our throne’

Excerpts from Col. Tavistock Commission of Office

In-between working on my Zenith Project I have been playing a lot of Relics and working through by Britanan leadpile. Because I have enough to field a force in every faction I move between them and tend to then paint up a unit in that faction. I have tried not to do that this year and stay focused on working on the Britanans. I have painted up several smaller units which I will post up later but wanted to focus on the completion of my dragoons and introduce Colonel Banister Tavistock!

Relics has a well written lore  and material to support each faction but does not have an ongoing narrative or much in the way of standout characters/events . The Mercenary Faction has Maverick Mike, St Nik and the Chronicler butt nothing else.I wanted to address this and my first character is Colonel Banister Tavistock. Building on the narrative around Maverick Mike and his rebellion from the Britanan Empire, Tavistock was created to hunt him down.

The character is based on Tavistock and his Dragoons were inspired by the Green Dragoons and Colonel Tavington from the film Patriot which in turn was inspired by the historical British Legion Green Dragoons and their commander Colonel Tarleton!

For the physical figure of Tavistock I used a Britanan Dragoon with the top body of a CSM and then blended in and created extra belt and coat tails with Green Stuff

for the uniform  scheme the designs from the film and the historical Green Dragoons were a bit different

Historical Colonel Tarleton

Fictional Colonel Tavington

Fictional Green Dragoons

in the end i decided to go with the fictional uniform as the mainly red uniform would tie them in better with the wider army.

To make him a playable character I also created a unit card for him drawing from the Dragoon, CSM and Maverick Mike cards

I have also created a PDF with the cards and his background lore which I posted on the Facebook Relics group and is available here:

Relics. Britanan 2024 Review

With the new year and the annoucment by TTcombat that they will be restocking the Relics range and promoting the game I have decided to go through by collection and tally up what I have. This will give me a chance to plan some painting and see what gaps there are to fill and what better faction to start than the Britanans!

My Britanans are a mixture of old Tor Gaming and Ebay joblots so some still carry the paintwork from previous owners and represent quite a eclectic mix

Sergeant-Majors

Including the one I have painted and the limited Edition issue I have found myself with  9 Sergeant Majors!
The sculpts are a step up in character detail from the standard troopers. They are a nice opportunity for personalisation with multiple weapon options and a nice open waistcoat that could be individually patterned.

Troopers

Including the unit i have painted I have 4 units of Troopers. Nine pupperts strong, the Trooper unit is the main force for the Britanans. I plan on painting/repainting two for my main army, oen as a standard unit and one with a headswap fro one of the Maverick Boys so they look moire like 18th Century Marines to use with the Ship/landing party
The last one will be for the breakaway Continental force which will be with blue jackets

Grenadier Troopers
With the painted units I have five units of Grenadiers of three figures each plan on keeping all of these for the main army though I might see how they look with a headswap to addd them to the Continental force

Highlanders
The unit comes with six figures but I seem to have a couple extra which I am going to use for a highland themed Colour Party. As I live in Cornwall I might use a Cornish Tartan

Colour Party

Two colour party sets which I will works with eh 18th Century British army tradtio of two flags for each regiment, one for the Kings Colours and one for the Regiment. One will have the Britanan Crown and needles and teh other I will come up with  for the regiment ( and a name for the Regiment!)

Marksmen

These come as unit of two, not sure if i have lost one or just had an extra in one of the job lots I picked up. Plan on painting one unit for each army, not sure about the extra one yet

Puppeters

In the lore the Britanans were originally a human race that appear loosely based on mid 17th Century England but with access to magic.  A great calamity befell the world before the game is set and killed  off the majority of humans which is why they have used puppets for their forces. Some humans have survived and the Puppeters are described as broke survivors touched by madness.

Dragoons

Two Units which I had started to put together when I was finishing off the Heavy Dragoons.
The paint scheme for these units will be based on the British Dragoons that were featured in the film The Patriot. One will be the fictional uniform and the other from the real regiment.
Fielding these and the Heavy Cavalry will make quite a glorious Charge!

I plan on getting another unit of Dragoons and switching their heads for those from the Maverick Boys for my breakaway independent puppet Faction, the Continentals.

Hunting Dogs, Ltd Edition Sergeant-Major and St Nik

A pack of 4 hounds but no huntmaster but could convert one of the Sergeant-Majors into one. One of the limited Edition Sergeant-Majors which has been TTCombats only new release so far, though they had showcased several other Britanans a couple of years ago which hope to see released!
The last one is one of the OOP Mercenaries, St Nik of which I already have one painted.

The base for an terrain/feature piece is a Fisherprice ship. As the Britanans are a island race all there interactiosn with the wider world must be via ships to the mainlanad. My plan is to convert this into a Bermuda Sloop inspired Britanan ship and man it with one of the trooper units.

Wooden Fort

This started out as a Medieval fort kit from Zvezda Models and the inital build and conversion I have posted elsewhere on the blog. Its about done, will add some ivy, a new front gate and some banners to fly the Kings colours.

Relics. Vaettir 2

Work has continued on my Relics Vaettir, I would like to be able to paint enough to be able to field them before I move back onto another faction, possibly the Britanan's as they are now have the least painted ( excluding Mercenaries!)

After enjoying painting my first two Vstonin I was able to picked up another from ebay (under the heading of 'Goblin Champion'!) to make up a pair. As with the others I filed down some parts and added Baking Soda texture. I had an arm missing so cut the blade to one handed and built a new arm out of GS to take another shield.

Pinned and glued and metal wire to take the GS arm

Completed Vstonin Units

Inspired by this paint guide by Epic Duck Studio Youtube
They have several other Relics figure guides as well as huge selection of other painting resources.

I worked on the Evocatours next. They are multipart figures and I most were too slim to pin so i reinforced the superglue with GS. The figures have three legs with the front leg raised. To add some variety I created a straight leg with small rod (paper clip) and GS

Completed Evocatours

Between the others I also painted up a couple of the Elvspon.
They will show off the faction colour, each type will be a different shade so the ball sculpt will be a lighter purple again.

So far the total painted force is at 98 points and I have started assembling a Vaelad and Huntawalu which require a fair amount of pinning and GS after which i will look at some troop options, probably the Hunta.
