Bird of Paradise Tile

Good morning crafters,

Today I am here to show you a tile I made by experimenting.  I've been playing with a few products and created this:

I started out with some Creative Paperclay and a wood tile.
Cutting around the wooden tile I cut out paperclay and although it's an air dry clay I baked it for about half and hour turning it every 7 minutes of so to get a nice even bake.  I use a small toaster oven to bake all my clay and never use it for anything else.
I still had a little bit of this gorgeous paper left over from my April Frog Dog Studio kit and decided to "muddy" it up a bit using some alcohol inks.
I also used some Alumilte Silver Metalic Powder and Alumidust in Orange and created a spray mist.
Here is what the tile looks like after mod podging the paper to it.
You can still see some of the original paper, but I did want just a hint of the details.  Once I got the color I wanted I modpodged the paper to the tile and sanded around the edges.  Then I took my orange ink pad and ran that around the edges to give it almost a burnt look.
Now, I mixed up the Amazing Clear Cast resin and painted it over my tile.  Then I mixed a bit of the Alumilite Blue Dye into the remaining clear cast resin and puddled it around the top of my tile and "blew" it with my heat gun.  It gave it some interesting detail.  I sprinkled some orange glitter in the blue area just for bling.
I used up the rest of the clear cast resin with the Alumilite blue dye to cast my bird of paradise also from the April Frog Dog Studio kit and I created a mold of it using my Amazing mold putty.  Actually, if you missed that post, you can see it here.
After she was set up, I demolded her and glued her to my tile
I added a pop tab to the back of my tile as my hanger and now I have a very unique tile to hand in my bathroom just because that color palette will work there very well.

Thanks for stopping by today and as always, have a great day and God Bless!

Sun Tile ABAC Challenge 35

Good morning friends,

It's the third Sunday in May and you know what that means?  It's my turn to show off another creation for Anything But a Card challenge blog.  I'm so thankful for having the opportunity to play along over there.  Although my main goal for joining ABAC was to start scrapbooking again, thus far I haven't even come close to doing that.  This week's challenge proved to be a challenge for me as it is a color challenge and this is what we were given:

Now, I wasn't sure how to incorporate all these colors into one theme, but by playing around I think I nailed it.  I really honestly did not know if this was going to turn out and I literally just played around.
I started with my Creative Paperclay and rolled it out to a quarter of an inch thick and using a wooden block tile I cut my clay.

Although the paperclay is an air dry clay I wanted to start working on my project now and baked it.  I used my little toaster oven that I ONLY use for baking my clay.  I baked this piece for probably half an hour turning it every 7 minutes or so so that I got a good dry bake.
Once it was baked I pulled out my alcohol inks and an orange ink pad and started to go to town.  I rubbed my inkpad in orange all over the tile first and then went back with the eggplant and wild plum alcohol inks.  Over and over and over until I though I had the correct color palette
What do you think?
Now I wanted shimmer, so I mixed up the Alumidust Orange with the Alumilite Metalic Silver Powder and some water and created my own mist.  LOVE these products for sure.
Now the tile was missing something, so I again mixed up the Alumidust Orange with some Super thick embossing powder in clear.
I stamped my image of the sun with the perfect medium and sprinkled my homemade "colored" embossing powder over it.  Looks pretty good huh?
Well, after I embossed it, it failed.  In hindsight I think I should NOT have used the ultra thick embossing powder.  It kinda ran together and didn't give "real" detail.  Now I had come so far with a perfect color palette I didn't want this tile to go to waste, so experimenting, I pulled out my Blue Hawaii Stazon and stamped the image over the embossing.  PERFECT!
Seriously, this picture gives it NO justice.
Then I used my Amazing Clear Cast resin and painted a thin layer over the tile to seal it and give it some gloss!  I really do believe this is one of my favorite pieces thus far!
Now I need a hanger for my tile, and because I so believe in recycling and because the tile is so lightweight  I was able to hot glue a pop tab to the backside (see I even burned my tile a little) and now I have a finished wall hanging.
I truly believe I nailed that color palette to a T and it all came together by experimenting.
I hope I've inspired you to use this color palette and join us over at ABAC.  Remember, there are only three rules to play along.  You must use the color palette, you can create anything but a card and just have fun!

Until next time, have a great day and God Bless!

Unscripted Sketches 251 Congratulations

Good Morning and happy Saturday again,

I think Saturday mornings have turned into my favorite day of the week and let me tell you why.  When I woke up this morning, after making coffee, I opened my twitter feed and there was a tweet from Susan over at Unscripted Sketches talking about the new Sketch #251 for this week.  Of course I had to check it out since I played along last week and had a great time doing it.  I saw the new sketch and was inspired by a card Billie made.
Sketch251

You will have to go over there to see which one I'm talking about.  Anyway, it gave me an idea, so off to my embellishment stash of resin and paperclay items I've made (since my goal is to use them up first before making anything new) and I found exactly what I was looking for.

I had made this star last year using my Creative Paperclay.  It's an airdry clay and so easy to work with.
I painted it with red, white and blue acrylic paints and then sanded it with some
sandpaper to weather it.  I loved how it turned out.
Actually I had make about a dozen of them and have most of them in my stash.
Why you ask?  Because I can never just make one of anything, LOL.  Since I work backwards, I had to find some paper to go with the star and found the perfect paper in my scrap drawer.  No need to cut up any new sheets (another goal of mine, use up what I have for scraps first).
One of the newest products over at Amazing Crafting Products is Alumidust.  It comes in many colors and I just happen to have a container of the Deep Red.  As you know I am on the Amazing Mold Putty design team and am fortunate to have been given some of the Alumidusts, but  I really didn't know much about them.  So after doing some research I came up with this: take some of your CLEAR embossing powder and a tiny scoop of the Alumidust and mix.  Then just stamp your image, sprinkle your mixed embossing powder over your image, shake off and heat with your heat gun.  You just made your own colored embossing powder.  LOVE IT!  Now I did use a black inkpad, but you can really see the shimmer the deep red alumidust gives it and combined with the black ink it matches the striped paper perfectly!
Isn't that just gorgeous?  I've seen colored embossing powders at Michaels and such, but they are kinda spendy (for me anyway).  Now I can color my own with the clear embossing powder I already have and alumidust (which comes in soooo many colors) and make just enough for what I need it for instead of purchasing a full container of a color I may never use again???
And here is my finished card for the challenge at Unscripted Sketches #251.  Literally this card took me 5 minutes to make but I love it and I know I can always use a Congrats card!

Oh by the way, I also made Top 3 last week over at Unscripted Sketches.  I was thrilled when I read that.
That's another reason I am thrilled for this Saturday morning!

If you missed my card last week, click here and it will take you to the post.

Now I hope I've inspired you to head over to Unscripted Sketches and try your hand at the challenge.

By the way, if you are here for my Day 3 of Frog Dog Studios post, click here or scroll down.

As always, have a great day and God Bless!

Faux Feather Earrings

Good day! Brenda here and I want thank Susan for inviting me back to show off some projects I've been making since leaving the Amazing Mold Putty Design Team. I was one of the original designers for Amazing Crafting Products and loved every minute of it.

Since leaving the team, I still continued to use Amazing Crafting Products because these products are ultimately the best. I love the fact that I can create almost anything I want. The molding putty is my all time favorite and of course I love using the Amazing Casting Resin and the Amazing Clear Cast Resin to create those embellishments.

So today I wanted to create some feather earrings that I had seen on Pinterest a while back. I started out with some Creative Paperclay®. I cut the clay in a oval type shape and using a bamboo skewer I added some lines to create those feather like looks. Press your bamboo skewer into the clay to make those veins. It really has great dimension. Once the piece is dry, you can use a nail file to smooth out the edges if you want or need to.

Once the piece dried I then prepared the feather to be encased in Amazing Mold Putty to create the mold. I added some vaseline to the paperclay "feather" as a release to make sure it would not stick to the mold putty. Better safe than sorry I always say.

I took two equal parts of the mold putty and blended them making sure there were no white streaks showing. You have a couple of minutes to get it good and blended. Then I pressed the clay feather piece into the mold putty and let it sit for about 10 minutes. I usually press my fingers slightly into the edge of the mold to make sure it's really good and hard and then I slowly pulled the clay piece out of the mold. Be very careful as the clay piece could break when taking it out of the mold. I will use the clay piece in a scrapbook layout or maybe a card.

I created the earrings with the Amazing Casting Resin and Gold Alumilite Metallic Powder. Add your Alumilite powder to your part "A" and mix well. Then pour your part "B" into your part "A" and mix again. You only have a few minutes before it wants to set up, so make sure you do this quickly.

After the pieces were cast, I added some black rub and buff to tone down the gold. I also sealed the pieces with some Sakura 3-D Crystal Lacquer and placed a few iridescent pearls to the "feathers". Now I have two perfectly matched feathers. I used my Crop-A-Dile to create the holes for the earring wires, it goes through the resin piece very easy. I added a couple of jump rings and the earring wires and now I have a great pair of earrings.

Thank you for stopping by today. I hope you've enjoyed my feather earrings tutorial and I cannot wait to share my next project! You can always find me here to see what else I create.  ~ Brenda Burfeind

Wine List

Good morning and welcome to another Creative Paperclay® post.

Before I share my project with you, I would like to remind you that there is a Design Team call going on here.  I believe you have until April 11th to sign up, but click on the link above and check out all the details.  This is my second term and I'm not sure I will be reapplying.  Not that I don't enjoy working with the products, but I may let some new talent step in.  It's going to be sad leaving the team as I have learned so much and enjoyed being a part of the team tremendously.  Creative Paperclay\® is definitely a fabulous product and I will for sure continue using it...so now onto my project.

I had received a wine bottle holder for Christmas
yes, I am a Vikings fan and proud of it  :)
In this shoe there was this tag and I got the idea to use it as a pattern for a Wine List!
So I laid it ontop of my Creative Paperclay® after I rolled it out about an 1/8 of an inch.
I just used my craft knife and traced around the pattern of the bottle.
laid it out to dry...Hindsight, I wish I had NOT cut out the holes, but I really didn't know where this project was going when I started it.
Here are the holes I cut out.
Then I painted the bottle silver with some acrylic paints and used some old style letter rubons and added the word WINE LIST to the top of the bottle.
I added a mini clothespin so I could also use it as an actual list, but again, hindsight, I would have covered up the WINE LIST wording, so....
instead I used a transparency and used the template to cut the exact size out and now I have a dry erase wine list...

see, dry erase...love it
I really like the way it came together.  I added a magnet to the back and now it can hang on my refrigerator and when I finish a bottle I can just write what I am in need of...LOL  I hope you like my tutorial and hope to see you back soon.
As always, have a great day and God Bless.

Pink Ladies Dart Pin for Sakura

***Revised***
Good morning and welcome to my first post for Sakura.  I'm so excited to be here and share the wonderful products that Sakura has.  I have been using these mixers for a bit over a year now and I have to say they are the best paints ever.  Visit Sakura Hobby Craft for your 3D Crystal Lacquer and Terri Sproul's Mixers at http://www.sakuracraft.com/. USE THE COUPON CODE TO GET YOUR TERRI SPROUL MIXERS TODAY!  The Coupon code to get 20% off is "SHIMMER03".  Hurry and get yours today.

Now I want to show you what beautiful color you get.  I am very passionate about a lot of things, but the one thing that is near and dear to my heart right now is a dart league that I am playing in to support cancer.  It's an all women's league.  All the money that we raise goes to fighting cancer.  We are doing fund raisers, auctions and even side pledges.  I decided to make myself a pin recognizing this league.  *** I forgot to mention that we are "sticking it to cancer", hence the darts sticking in the dartboard and ribbon

I started with some paperclay and used a ribbon cookie cutter to cut it out.
I sanded the edges with an emery board and got into all those tiny areas.
Then I painted it with the Shimmer Pink Sapphire and 3d crystal lacquer.  This is the most beautiful paint ever.  Also when using the 3d crystal lacquer you get a nice seal over the top of your project.
Then I molded 3 darts using an existing dart earring I had
I painted each dart gold
Of course I own a dart board stamp and stamped
that image onto some white cardstock.
Then I adhered the darts and the dartboard onto the ribbon again
using 3d crystal lacquer because it bonds very well
and then I also layered some more 3d crystal lacquer
over the top of the dartboard and it gives it a glass like look.
Really honestly, the pictures do it no justice.
I wish I had a better way of showing you how beautiful this pin turned out.
I put a pin back onto my ribbon and it hangs proudly on my dart case.  I have made and sold a couple of these already.  If you are at all interested in one, leave me a comment or email me at burffrau @ gmail . com and add (PINK LADIES) in the subject line.  I can make any color ribbon you would like as I cancer has many colors.  The pins are $8 and $5 of that will be donated to the charity that we choose at the end of the season.

I want to thank you for coming over and checking out my first post for Sakura.  I'll be showcasing Sakura products all month long.  Don't forget to head over to Sakura for a 20% off of the shimmers.  They are exquisite...
