Z'ev - Opus 3 (CPI Edit)

From my site:
This recording was created using Opus 3, performed by Z'ev, and released by Staalplat in 1990.
Opus 3 is a collection of five acts, each movement of which is a textured sound performance on a distinct medium.
While I loved the original recording, this edit captures how I liked to listen to it, and highlights my favourite portions.

This process arose from the liner note instructions "Oracular shuffle mode recommended":
The 13 most arrhythmic of the 20 track album were selected and underwent minor acoustical treatments.
3 random orders for the tracks were derived. One for the left, center and right channels.
The tracks were overlayed in their derived order in to each channel.
For audio clarity, minor EQ enhancements were utilized and compression was applied to the center track.

In 2008 I was commissioned to create music for contemporary dancer Lana Morton.

There are four acts contained within:
1) introduction
2) on the chair
3) wolf dance
4) the red dress

Caitlyn & James live at Gallery 101 04/01/02

Live experimental / avant-noise improvisation. Turntables, guitar, effects. No overdubs or prerecorded portions.
Pretty amateur and unrehearsed, but still a bucket of fun. Oh the hazy memories...

CPI - 4 Turntables & A Crate Of 7"s

This performance was my tribute to the 7" record. Most of my 7"s were layed around the art gallery, displaying their somewhat unique aesthetic. Much thanks to Stomach Ache Records, Gerogerigegege, The Boredoms, and all others that use the 7" medium to it's fullest potential. Performed live 07/20/01 @ Gallery 101.

CPI - Falling Sick Into You

Way back in 2000, performed at SAW Gallery January 7th, this was a love poem.

CPI - Falling Sick Into You

CPI - Just Scum.

I am going to kick off this blog with an entry for each of my mixes. I wanted to be able to sort them by tags, so having them here will certainly help.

Let's start at the beginning. I was born in 1979. By the time I hit grade 11 I was full-on enthralled in Japanese Noise and teen angst. To resolve both interests, I started an artier-than-though project to create 40-second sound segments, which were then randomized and assembled together in to a singular piece. In CD format, it was meant to be listened to on random.

Dedicated to Juntaro Yamanouchi and Eye Yamantaka, I present:
