A good-bye to Simon

Last summer I lost one of my best friends. His name was Simon.

I met Simon when he was nine weeks old. I was only two! We played. We went on Walks together. We hung out. We were best friends.

More recently Simon's people moved further away from us and I didn't see him very much.

I also didn't get to see Simon as much because Ojo came to live with us, and Ojo and Simon were not friends. Ojo zoomed too fast and Simon did not like this. He would snap and bark at her to slow down. But this made her nervouse and she zoomed even faster. So our people did not ask Ojo and Simon to hang out together. This means I didn't see Simon as much either.

But still I loved him.

A year ago my friend Simon started feeling unwell. His people tried doing all sorts of things to help him. He had to make many visits to Vet. But by the summer time his people knew he had a Big Bad Thing growing in his body, and it was time to say good-bye.

It has taken me a long time write about Simon because I am very sad. My person is very sad too.

Simon walked over the rainbow bridge last August. He was nine years old. Apart from Ojo, he was my best friend.

My person drew a picture of him, and gave it as a gift to his people.

We all loved Simon very much. Simon, I will see you again on the other side of the bridge. Thank you for being my friend. We miss you!

Waiting for Simon

I am waiting for Simon.

We are going to go on a Walk together.

Simon has been my friend since we were both very young. Now we're middle-aged, and we still like to Walk together. (I am older and wiser of course, by two whole years!)

He is coming soon. I will wait for you, Simon!

There he is! Hurray! I found Simon! (And his person, too!)

Isn't he handsome?

Special guests on Walk

Before we left for SNOW, we had two very special Walks. These Walks were special because we brought FRIENDS!

This is Simon!

And this is Dixie!

Simon and Dixie's people were away in a place called Hawaii. Apparently it is warm there, and there are palm trees, but I don't understand why the people would want to go there when they could have stayed at home and walked with our friends in the Mud and the Rain?

People are strange. But it was good for us, because we got to Walk with our friends!

Our little car was very full. Ojo and I were in our usual spot in the very back, Dixie had a crate on the back seat. That left Simon up front with our person. This was not fair - I wanted to ride up front! But for some reason our person always separates me and Simon by a row of seats. Otherwise we whine and poke at each other. But what is wrong with that?

(Simon liked being up front. And my person says do not worry, she was not driving when she took this picture.)

Dixie needed to stay on a leash because sometimes she smells a bunny or a squirrel and forgets to come back. Our person didn't want to take the chance of losing her, so she had to stay on the leash when she was with us.

But all four of us were very polite, and very good listeners! It helped that our person brought cheese.

This is me and Simon. Isn't Simon handsome??

We had some wonderful Walks with our friends! Maybe Simon and Dixie's people will go away to the palm trees again sometime soon?

We found Simon!

Look who we found! Friends!!

Simon and I are good friends. We have known each other since I was young (only two years old) and he was a puppy (only eight weeks old). Since I am now almost seven years old, and Simon is almost five years old, this means we have  known each other for almost five years!

We are always excited to find each other when we are out on Walks!

And that is Simon's person that we found too! Even Ojo is happy about this!

Isn't Simon handsome?

Do you have friends that you find on Walks sometime?

I am NOT grumpy!

Hey, hang on, wait a sec! In that last post Ojo says I am grumpy! I am not grumpy!

I will prove to you that I am not grumpy!

Here is me sharing my very best Dog friend in the whole wide world - Simon!

Not only that, but one of Simon's people had FOOD! Do I look like I am not sharing? Do I look like I am grumpy?

NO, I do not!

(Dogs from left to right are ME, Dixie, Simon, Ojo, and Brody's bum. This is not a very good picture of Simon. Really, he is the most handsome Dog in the world. And I SHARED HIM!! NOT GRUMPY!!)

Agility Dogs!

Yesterday I went with my people to a big field. There were many dogs there with Jobs. My Job was to greet people at a table with my person, and be a good ambassador.

These Dogs had a different Job - they are in lessons with Trainer, and they had to show everyone just how swift and agile they were!

Okay, I do have a confession to make though. I was much more interested in watching these Dogs run and jump and fly than I was hanging out at my person's table. I may have sat as close to them as I could, at the very end of my leash. I may have watched them closely. I may have done little-whines. Just a little bit.

And I watched and watched and watched.

But can you blame me? Aren't they amazing?

And then, guess who came out?

SIMON!!!

Isn't he dark and handsome? And very athletic. Dreamy Dog Sigh.

I was very, very, very patient, and after a very, very, very long time the Dogs finally finished jumping, and the people finished talking, and then, finally - I got to play with Simon!

Have I mentioned that Simon is my very best Dog-friend in the whole wide world? (And he's handsome too.) (And he fetches.) (And he lets me chase when he fetches.) (I love Simon.)

Even better than Turkey

This weekend was Turkey weekend! I had much Turkey. And also shrimp, whip cream, ham, and a lick of something called "pumpkin pie".

Just when I thought the weekend could not get any better... it did.

This is my best-dog-friend in the whole world - Simon!

He came on Walk with us. We did much exploring.

Nature has decided it is tine for Fall. This is when the air gets cooler and the leaves shed all over the ground.

Things turn pretty colours.

The cooler air is nice for us Dogs with our fur coats.

It was even cool enough for a game of chase-fetch-chase!

This is where my person throws the frisbee, Simon chases the frisbee, and I chase Simon. I love this game.

Okay, I'll admit it - it was still pretty Hot. So our game went like this:

Simon and I would be exploring-walking-sniffing-hanging-out as we moved along the path. Then another Dog would come, or sometimes Simon would decide to follow a scent-trail and go far away. My person would call his name and he would run back to her.

(Have I mentioned that he is a Good Dog?)

Then she would say "good boy Simon" and she would make the frisbee fly. We would get to chase two or three times, by which point our tongues were hanging out and our breath was panting.

My person would hide the frisbee and say "all done", and we'd go back to sniffing.

Both were fun. Anything is fun when Simon is around!

I don't know why today was special like this, but I hope it happens again soon!

Another beach day and unexpected friends

Today was another Beach day. I thought it was going to be only okay - we went to the same old Beach that we almost always go to, and Nature was making Hot on my fur, and the stones were rolling around under my feet making my paws sore.

I am always happy to be out with my person, but I was also thinking that it would be nice to be at home with a bone lying on the cool floor.

But then suddenly I came across something awesome.

FRIENDS!!

Brody...

Super-swimmer ball-fetching dog-friend Dixie...

And my best friend in the whole world...

SIMON!

Isn't he dark and hansom? Not very tall though... But just the right height for me. I'm not very tall either.

We all played together chasing sticks and Balls. And each other.

We all got a little wet, but Dixie was the best swimmer.

She loves her Ball very much.

It was so exciting to find Dog Friends! This was one the best Beach days ever...
