Yucky

It is very yucky out. There is much rain pouring down from the sky in big heavy drops. Some of the rain has slush in it. And the wind is blowing all over the place.

You're not actually going to make me go for a walk in that, are you???

The rains have started! (by Ojo)

Hi hi hi! Ojo here!

The rains have started!

The plants and grasses and trees are breathing a sigh of relief!

At the same time, the plants and trees are getting ready for Winter. The leaves are on the ground as they get ready to go to sleep for the year.

But most exciting is that all of the smells that dried up all summer are now moist and very strong! It is a very good time of year for sniffing! We like walking in the Fall.

Yesterday and today

Yesterday Nature was making sun! I lay in the sunshine. It was very nice.

Today Nature made rain.

I would like to go back to Yesterday, please!

Il pleut! (by Ojo)

Hi hi hi! Ojo here!

Il pleut!

That is French! It means that it is raining. And raining and raining and raining!

We went for a very long Walk! This Walk was fun because we got to explore a place that we haven't been to very often! It was full of interesting smells and sights!

This is a lake!

So the Walk was pawesome!

It was only when we got home that I realized that my whole body was WET. And very cold.

Momma C toweled me dry, and then wrapped me up.

But I am still wet. And I am still cold.

Will I ever be dry again???

Still wet

It is still wet.

On our Walk we went to one of my favourite places in the whole world. My people call this place "Cobi's Rock", because I love it so much.

Even if the people are walking around it, I always climb this place! All on my own! And I stand on the top, and I just breathe. I love this place.

The people say my ashes will go here when I have walked the Bridge, although I hope that will be a long time from now.

So I was very happy to be on Cobi's Rock. But not so happy about the Wet.

Ojo does not care. Sometimes I wish I was more like Ojo. I want to not-care about being yucky-wet-with-raindrops-in-the-eyes too.

But I suppose it was worth it - visiting Cobi's Rock is always amazing!

Temperate rain forest

Friends, you may have been fooled by all of the sunny photos we've posted recently. And we have indeed had a very nice Fall!

But it's important to know that we live in what the people call Temperate Rain Forest.

Rain. Forest.

As you can see, the Rain does not bother Ojo at all. We were worried, when she first came from Alabama to live with us, that she might not like the rain. But I do not think she notices.

Me? I notice.

I like the coolness of Fall, but I would prefer Fall-cool-with-sunshine, thank-you-very-much! This rain is kind of yucky. How much longer is it going to rain for? Wait, how many months did you say???

Rain is yucky

Fall has started making RAIN. This is yucky. Go away, Rain, I do not like you on my Walks.

Special guests on Walk

Before we left for SNOW, we had two very special Walks. These Walks were special because we brought FRIENDS!

This is Simon!

And this is Dixie!

Simon and Dixie's people were away in a place called Hawaii. Apparently it is warm there, and there are palm trees, but I don't understand why the people would want to go there when they could have stayed at home and walked with our friends in the Mud and the Rain?

People are strange. But it was good for us, because we got to Walk with our friends!

Our little car was very full. Ojo and I were in our usual spot in the very back, Dixie had a crate on the back seat. That left Simon up front with our person. This was not fair - I wanted to ride up front! But for some reason our person always separates me and Simon by a row of seats. Otherwise we whine and poke at each other. But what is wrong with that?

(Simon liked being up front. And my person says do not worry, she was not driving when she took this picture.)

Dixie needed to stay on a leash because sometimes she smells a bunny or a squirrel and forgets to come back. Our person didn't want to take the chance of losing her, so she had to stay on the leash when she was with us.

But all four of us were very polite, and very good listeners! It helped that our person brought cheese.

This is me and Simon. Isn't Simon handsome??

We had some wonderful Walks with our friends! Maybe Simon and Dixie's people will go away to the palm trees again sometime soon?

Rain.

Today was Very Wet.

Our person still made us go on Walk, even though Nature was making lots and lots and lots of rain. And also big winds, so the rain was going sideways, and tree branches were crashing down around us.

We could have been hurt! We could have been blown away by the wind! We could have been swept away by the water! We could have been crushed by a tree branch!

Instead of paths to walk along, we had rivers of water.

I would like to go back to the snow, please.

Wet Grass Woes

Friends, Nature has started making rain. And rain makes the grass wet.

I hate wet grass. (Do you hate wet grass too? It doesn't bother Ojo at all, but then we all know she's weird.)

The other night I went outside to pee because it was time for our long sleep in our crate-dens. But I could not pee because the grass was very wet and my paws do not like the wet grass. Usually, since my person stays inside, I sneak into the garden and pee on the dirt. Or sometimes I sneak around the side of the house and pee on the concrete.

But somehow my person caught on to me, and so that night she stood outside, watching. She told me "no cobi" when I went to pee in the garden. She told me "no cobi" when I went to pee on the leaves on the concrete.

She wanted me to pee in the grass.

This was very mean! I did not know what to do!

But then - RACCOON!!! It was in the big tree across the yard! I forgot all about the wet grass and ran to the tree!! Bark bark bark!!!

The raccoon got away, but now I was on the other side of the yard. At first this was okay, because there was dirt there, under our big oak tree, And so I peed. Ahh, much better.

But then. It was horrible. I was STUCK! There was no way back except across the wet grass!

I got stuck there for many minutes. My person called. She coaxed. She brought out treats. But I could not come because there was a whole stretch of wet grass between us!

Finally she put on shoes, and a coat, and she walked across the wet grass. She picked me up and carried me back to the dry deck. She muttered many things that sounded like "dumb dog", but I'm sure she would not say this about me. Would she?

Anyways, this was much better, and a big relief. I do not know how I would have gotten back otherwise. And I think I should have this service all the time, don't you?

Sigh. What do you do about the wet grass?

Nature makes Rain! (by Ojo)

Hi hi hi! Ojo here!

Nature has started making Rain! We have not had Rain like this in a very long time!

The bad part of Rain is that the people are constantly wiping my feet. The good part of Rain is that all the smells are strong and sharp and fresh! And also it is cooler and I can run for longer!

Sorry my person, I do not have time to pose for a photograph - I am too busy smelling all the fresh, crisp, wet smells!

Wet and Muddy Dogs

This is our Forest!

This week Nature has been making much rain, and the rain is making much mud. It is also making streams and rivers where there are normally paths to walk upon.

But do not worry! We are West Coast Dogs! We are tough! We do not mind Rain! (Well, I do not like rain in my eyes. I also do not like to pee on wet grass. But other than that I am a tough West Coast Dog! And Ojo doesn't mind anything at all.)

The good thing about this is that whenever we get thirsty there is much fresh water to drink from.

The bad part is that our person makes us do many towel wipes.

Our person says, "You are wet, muddy, stinky dogs!"

I do not think this is very nice. Do you? After all, she is a wet, muddy, stinky human, but I do not say that to her, now do I?

No, this is not a stream. This is the path up the hill! It is a good thing we are waterproof Dogs!

Boring (by Ojo)

Hi hi hi. Ojo here to tell you that today has been BORING!

Outside Nature is making rain.

Inside the people are cooking. They are making yummy meat-smells in the room they call "kitchen". But they are not sharing. This is not fair.

Yes, okay, I did go running this morning. In the forest. (It was pawesome! With squirrels and birds!)

And yes, okay, I did practise the game called "Ojo Come". (It was pawesome! When I listened I got meat and cheese!)

But still. No hanging out in Yard. No chasing the ratties. No chewing sticks in grass in the sunshine.

This is not fair. I like the rain!

It is the people who do not like the rain. They do not like to go outside very much when it is wet. And they do not like me to go outside very much because then I make mud paintings in the house after. What is wrong with mud paintings?

So I will lie here and chew my Ball.

Tomorrow will be Sun again, I am sure of it. I have not lived here long, but my whole life has been about Sun and Hot and Warm. I'm sure Nature will be making those things again tomorrow. Right?

Wait - what?? This new place I call home has RAIN for many, many months????
It gets even COLDER? And even WETTER???

Sigh. At least I have my friend Ball...

West Coast Dog

I do not fear rain. I do not fear wet. I do not fear mud.
I am a West Coast Dog!

I am a Canine Good Neighbor!

Today I did a test with my person. This test was not the best thing I've ever done because there was no food allowed. But I passed! Now I am a CKC Canine Good Neighbor!

Afterwards I got to go for a rainy beach walk with my best dog-friend Simon! This was a good reward. Is Nature making rain for any other Dogs out there?

Mount Doug in Spring means rain, sun and wind

Today Car took us to Mount Doug. Nature was making Spring. There was sunshine and rain, and lots of wind, and then more sunshine, and then more rain.

We did my favourite Walk, which starts with forest and mud and trees and bushes, then goes into rocks to climb (I love climbing!), and then the area that my person calls GarryOakEcosystem, which has lots of grass and moss and flowers. And trees named Garry Oak.

My person made me do the thing called "posing", but she had water and lamb-treat for me so I didn't mind.

Aren't I pretty-dog? I love Mount Doug in the spring!
