AQ favorite dronologists Maeror Tri dissolved in 1997 (with two thirds
of the band reincarnating as Troum), but a handful of MT recordings
have recently seen the light of day. "Hypnotikum II" is the second
(and final) part of a series based on the tape loops used in a series
of MT performances in 1996. Maeror Tri's dreamy oversaturation of
drone-guitar noise is reminiscent of the old skool power electronics
in which you can't tell if the melodic interludes are actual elements
buried deep within the sound or hallucinated fragments. As with
everything Stefan Knappe touches (either as MT/Troum or on his
Drone 7" label), this is golden.

MAEROR TRI =Hypnotikum II= LP
Another "final" recording by the north German trio MAEROR TRI.
A collection of sound loops were used in a series of live performances
that took place in Turin, Cologne and Ghent in 1996. Until now these
sound loops had never been recorded. They were originally intended
only for use in live peformances, but after the concerts the band
decided to make studio recordings with them. What resulted was enough
material for two LPs. The first record, "Hypnotikum I" is dreamy and
hypnotic; smooth and earnest. Complimenting this sublime mood, the
tracks are punctuated with pulsating rhythms. A surreal soundtrack
that captures the imagination. Immerse yourself into the unique
acoustical realm of Maeror Tri. The material recorded for "Hypnotikum II"
highlights a harsher rhythmic style. "Hypnotikum II" consists of 4 pieces
with a total running time of 40 minutes. The LP has beautiful full color
artwork by Vance Orchestra member Mars Wellink. This release is limited
to 400 copies.
