German Battlegroup Cont...

Hello there,

The progress so far...

As i mentioned earlier here is a shot of my misrable excuse for man space.
Basically whatever space on the kitchen table that i can grab alonside my painting buddy that is my 2 year old daughter and her box of soldiers that she paints with her dad:

I used to have a wonderful wooden shed large enogh to house an 8ft x 4ft table and a painting area, however i now live in a tiny shoe box house supplied courtesy of the MOD and my beautiful wooden man haven will have to wait until my posting is over. Until then its the kitchen table and the rigmorole of setting up and packing away everytime.

So to the job in hand....

the image above shows the remaining German vehicles with the camouflage scheme applied prior to adding details and highlighting. I havent really gone for a researched and "accurate" camouflage but rather stuck with a standard scheme of Vallejo Green Ochre for the base coat with random swatches of Vallejo Reflective Green and Beige Brown for the camouflage pattern prior to a drybrush of lightened basecoat to soften the colours. I personally find the result quite pleasing and as a uniform standard for the Battlegroup.

Along with the vehicles i also got onto the infantry groups. These were treated in the same fashion as above, this time the base coat was Vallejo German Field Grey highlighted with Vallejo green grey prior to detailing. Whilst these were drying it was time for a well earned coffee in my easter egg mug as i got to work on preparing the bases.

The bases are all made from a sheet of Plasticard and cut into the various unit sizes as per the BKC reccomendations. Prior to cutting i always score the sheet so to allow for a decent surface for the figures and basing material to adhere to. Once the figures were dry and all the detailing had been done i fix the miniatures to the bases with standard PVA glue and once again allow to dry prior to adding the basing mix.
Apologies if the images are not quite up to standard but it was a bit dark today and i did'nt take them in the usual place. Before i leave i will post an image of my daughters efforts from today and an interesting camouflage scheme for these Paratroopers dont you think? Not bad for a 2 year old, my future gaming partner!!!!!!

Next will be the basing and final toutches.

Thanks for looking

Posts to publish

As a tempter here is some stuff that i will get round to publishing in due course:

10mm Russians BKC

15mm Flames of War

15mm PBI

Terrain Building

The overall idea is to publish lots of images with explainations of how to's in order to inspire others as i have been inspired by the work of others.

I shall aslo give an insight into some of the Board wargames that i own along with a classic PC strategy game "East Front" if i can get some screen shots to post.

Blitzkrieg Commander 10mm Germans

Ok, as promised what follows is the first post that will follow the construction of a 10mm German Battlegroup for Blitzkrieg Commander (BKC).
BKC is a fun, easy to learn and easy to play table top wargame that ticks all the boxes for me as it keeps things nice and simple (no faffing about refering to tables etc) and above all is fun to play!!
Although i only ever got a couple of games in with Steve before we both moved to different areas i have managed a few "Solo" games utilising my multiple personality disorder to the max as i switch betweeen sides......I still find this game lots of fun and outcomes are extremely unpredictable even playing against yourself the luck is in the die throws not the plan!
Which brings me back to the post! I enjoy the game so mutch that I already own both a German and Russian Battlegroup in 6mm which i will post images of later. Now i am making the move to 10mm which has the scale on the tabl top to maneouvre and the models have much more detail than the 6mm stuff especially the infantry.
I am part way through 1000pts of Russians but thought that i would kick this off with the Germans from scratch, well almost as here in my best Blue Peter voice are some that i prepared earlier:)
Pair of Stug 111's

Opel Blitz trucks, Transport for my support options

All the models are from Pendraken and have been mounted onto plasticard. I am still not too sure about the windows as its my first attemt at painting glass! the bases still need to be painted around the edges but thats a job i will do en mass once everything is done. I also may put some yellow/brown hairy grass onto the base to finish off.

Remaining vehicles to be painted

These have been under coated in my prefered way which is an overall spray of GW Chaos Black prior to a liberal drybrush of the base coat which is Vallejo Green Ochre, next i will add the camouflage colours and details before another layer of drybrush in a lighter shade of the original base coat.

The Infanrty get the same sort of deal after being PVA glued onto cardboard strips where they will be painted fully prior to basing.

In my net post i will show the work in progress with my temporary painting area set up.. more to follow.

Cheers

Well at last I have arrived, this is something that I have been meaning to get around to doing for a long time now and seeing as i have a week off work I have eventuallty managed to motivate myself enough to get this up and running, if only I could motivate myself to actually finishing a project now wouldnt that be nice?

Over the next few days i will slowly begin to populate this blog with various items from my little world, be it Photos and articles from my adventures navigating arounds the woods of Southern England or posts relating to my other fasination that being Wargaming.

I have only been wargaming now for about 4 years (Proper) and it was a friend of mine (Steve) that really launched me into the hobby along with his brother (Bren). prior to this i had still always pottered around with miniatures but not really done anything constructive with them. However if you rewind twenty or so years you would probably have found me with vast arrays of 1:72nd Airfix plastic figures, Tanks, Aircraft and Matchstick projecting Artillery spread across the livingroom floor. So you could say i always have been a wargamer (Grongard) or geek as the wife likes to put it in one form or another.

Well thats enough drivel for now hopefully later today i will get some images of a current project that i have in progress and that is a 10mm German WW2 Battlegroup for the Blitzkrieg Commander ( BKC) Game System.
