Play with the new Distress Ink Products

Hello friends! I'm back with another Decor piece. This time a Vignette Box decorated for Winter.

So much fun to use the new Sizzix Dies Twigs and Stump to create this fun scene!

There is a video here:

Here is the link in case the video isn't appearing: https://youtu.be/Uw6MFyM1MaE

Start with the Vignette Box. Tim demoed a woodgrain box using the new Holiday Woodgrain Grey Cardstock on the exterior of the box. I followed suit using collage medium to attached the trimmed pieces. Another coat of Collage Medium and a dusting with my Glitter Duster and Rock Candy Glitter and it is ready to go!

Check out the background! White snowmen would be lost in the snowstorm! I used the new Mica Distress Spray Winter Frost to add some texture to the background. I have better luck flicking the tube to get splatter. After splattering, I added some water and let it wick.

Panels were created using Distress Watercolor Paper and the Mica Set #3 Tart Cranberry and Winter Frost. I also used Flickering Candle Mica Spray from last year's release. Rustic Wilderness was used to create the green for the tree. I sprayed, spritzed and dried the layers on both sides to achieve the colors I wanted.

Next up is the die cutting!

Prior to die cutting the trees, I ink blended Rustic Wilderness on the panel to give it some depth. I stitched two trees together to add dimension.

I used white heavyweight cardstock to cut the snowman bases and cut the baubles, scarfs and hats using the Mica Distress Inked pieces.

The sign and the snowman arms were cut from Distress Woodgrain Cardstock that I ink smooshed and layered with Vintage Photo and Walnut Stain Inks.

The extra snowflakes are die cut from white heavyweight Cardstock with Collage Medium and Glitter for sparkle.

Using Collage Medium, I glued the layers on the snowmen and then onto the box to create a scene.  After all the pieces were added, it was time for it to snow. I used the new Snowfall Grit Paste coated with glitter! This paste was so much fun to apply on the scene bottom and in between the tree layers.

I decided I needed a red bow, so i cut a piece of Rayon Seam binding and sprayed it with the Tart Cranberry and achieved a nice dark red color.

Check out the very inky fingers!  I found two jingle bells in my ephemera stash that I treaded onto a wire and attached to the newly tied bow. My hot glue gun was perfect to attach the bow to the top of the panel.

Saturday Showcase - Sizzix Bold Text #2 Die Set

Hello friends! It's Teri with TerisMailbox. Today I am sharing seven unique cards created using the Sizzix Bold Text #2 Dies with a variety of backgrounds from my stash for The Funkie Junkie Boutique's Saturday Showcase. I tend to sit down and get creative using one technique at a time such as alcohol inks, embossing and ink smooshing. The result is a fun box full of colorful backgrounds.

Check out this great variety!

Before we jump in, I will share I have a video over on my YouTube Channel:

In case the video is not displaying, here is the link: https://youtu.be/YrCYqB0u-1I

Let's start with the ink blended background. This is the only one I created just for this video. I started with the two layer Moon Mask. I sprayed it with Pixie Spray and attached to the upper right section of an A2 size piece of white Cougar Cardstock. Using bright Distress Inks (Twisted Citron, Salvaged Patina, Squeezed Lemonade, Prize Ribbon and Chipped Sapphire), I ink blended the bright colors first in small areas on the base, followed by the blues around these areas. A spritz of water allowed the colors to soften and move. After drying the piece, I removed the moon base and blended Pumice Stone Distress Ink on the clear spot and then used the second stencil to add the craters with Hickory Smoke Distress Ink.

After drying, I splattered White Gesso on top, followed by placing a few larger spots with a paint brush tip. The base was attached to an A2 white card base. I then decided it needed additional texture. Black Soot Distress Ink stamped on the front in small sections using the Ledger Script Stamp provided that interest.

Products Used for Card One:
Stampers Anonymous Ledger Script Stamp CMS241

The second card is a bright and sparkly shaker card using an alcohol ink and glitter cardstock background.

This was an easy shaker to make. Start by cutting the sentiment from the alcohol inked cardstock, and trim it down to a smaller rectangle. Attach a piece of clear acrylic paper to the pack. (I used the plastic envelope that stamps come in.) Add thin foam tape around the edges, add sequins and attach to a piece of white cardstock. I did run a small line of white glue on the foam after removing the paper to help it seal well.

Create the base by ink blending Wilted Violet Distress Ink over THS155. Trim the shaker piece and attach to the front of the stenciled base. Create a focal point using the Brushstroke Butterfly Die and cutting the base with heavy vellum and the details from leftover alcohol inked cardstock. Cut the body with black cardstock, assemble and glue the body section to the perimeter of the shaker.

Products Used for Card Two:
Purple Alcohol Ink from my stash

Next up is a fun Two-fer set. Don't you love it when you have pieces left over to do that? Because these sentiment dies create both a positive and negative piece, it is so easy to make 2 cards!

This is the first card I did. Select a colorful alcohol inked piece. Cut the frame using two rectangle dies from one set. Tape them together to form a frame. After die cutting the frame, cut the sentiment from the inner gold piece as well.

Center the sentiment die and cut from the alcohol inked base. Use double sided tape on the back, covering the letter openings. This will make it easy to pop the gold letters inside.

Trim the alcohol piece and attach to a white A2 base. Center the gold frame around the letters, attach and pop the gold letters in the openings.

Products Used for Card Three:

Here is the second card of our Two-fer set! It started with an ink smooshed background with Distress Resist Spray on it. It is textured with great shine. I wish you could see it! Trim and mount the background on an A2 White card base. Center the negative sentiment piece.

Chose a coordinating piece of metallic cardstock from the Metallic Confections set and die cut using one of the Artsy Stems Dies. Thread the stem into the sentiment piece prior to attaching.

Products Used for Card Four:

Next up is another fairly simple card using an ink smooshed background. After selecting the background, ink blend another piece of cardstock to cut the embellishment from and to use as the backdrop for the sentiment. I used Twisted Citron and Cracked Pistachio Distress Ink.

Use the Lucky Love 3-D Impresslit Embossing Folder to cut one shamrock from the green paper plus three more from white cardstock to strengthen the shamrock. Use the "Lucky is a State of Mind" Die to cut it from the smooshed background. Attach the ink blended piece behind, trim to 5" by 3.75" and attach to the A2 cardbase.

Using a Vintage Photo Distress Crayon colored on your mat, add some water and use a stiff brush to grunge the shamrock. Attach the shamrock to the card in the upper right corner. I am always a huge fan of shamrocks. Our oldest son is able to find them easily. Now I have spent many hours in my childhood searching without success!

Products Used for Card Five:
Sizzix Tim Holtz 3-D Impresslit Embossing Folder - Lucky Love 665227

Next up is a feminine card using Saltwater Taffy (my new favorite color) and the doily embossing folder.

Check out the dimension and texture created with embossing folders! The background is from my stash, but I do demo how to create it in the YouTube video.

In addition to the background, I also used the Floral Frame from my stash that was already colored and ready to go. Attach the Doily background to an A2 cream cardstock base. Cut the "Choose to Shine" from another piece of cream cardstock. Use the Damask 3-D Embossing Folder to add texture and swipe with the Shabby Shutters Distress Ink pad to add a hint of color. Mount this on green cardstock, trim and add to the cardfront.

Select a Photo Shop image and attach to the back of the frame and then onto the card front. This card has so much dimension and texture, nothing else is needed! See how easy it is to make a wonderfully textured card?

Products used for Card Six:
Ideology Photobooth TH93799

Last card has a Snarky Cat in front of a brick wall. I Girl Zoe has an excellent blog post describing how to create your own brick wall using the Brickwork Embossing Folder. The link to her tutorial is HERE. I used Rusty Hinge, Vintage Photo, and Gathered Twigs Distress Inks for mine. Cut the sentiment in the top section of the brick wall. Run the piece back through your die cut machine after cutting using the folder to deepen the lines.

I love the dimension on this background! A Snarky Cat is the perfect addition to this card! Stamp the cat plus a bowtie and hat on Cougar Cardstock. After coloring with Copic Markers, fussy cut the images and add to the front! Isn't he cute?

Products used for Card Seven:

Saturday Showcase - 6 Easy Cards with 1 Tim Holtz Stamp Set

Hello Crafty Friends!

Today I wanted to share a fun challenge I gave myself. I challenged myself to use only 1 stamp set to create 6 simple cards that can be good for any occasion.  I chose to use the Tim Holtz Set - CMS385 "Into the woods".  I wanted a woodsy look that could be good for fall, Christmas, or masculine cards.

3 of the cards are A2, one just a bit shorter than A2, a slimline card, and one that's about 2/3s the size of an A2 (made from the scrap from cutting the slimline card).

A simple frame card (you could easily switch out any of the animals to the bear or the fox from the set).

Simple and woodsy.

Woodsy with a splash of color.

A touch of plaid for simple color.

A simple and easy wreath card. (This could also be a bird nest. I should have done a touch less stenciling for my preferred look).

My favorite of all the cards, and yet the simplest!

What do you think of these cards?
This stamp set could easily make so many more simple cards, or awesome elaborate ones!!

Saturday Showcase - Tim Holtz Sizzix Flower Field Die

Hello friends. It's Teri from TerisMailbox here spotlighting the 'Flower Fields' Die from Tim Holtz and Sizzix for The Funkie Junkie Boutique. I admit to be addicted to all things Tim Holtz. This die has become a new favorite!

Check out the variety of techniques on all five cards!

I started by watercoloring two different cards using watercolor techniques. The first card uses the border as a watercolored die-cut piece.

Check out the dimension achieved by layering an additional die cut below the water-colored piece! I used distressed ink reinkers to color the die cut and smooshed the background with Tumbled Glass and Speckled Egg Distress inks.

Colors used include Wilted Violet, Mustard Seed, Spun Sugar, Bundled Sage, Peeled Paint and Abandoned Coral inks for the flowers.

After gluing the die cut watercolor piece to the smooshed background, I mounted the watercolor piece on an A2 hotdog  cardstock base. The sentiment is from Stampers Anonymous 'Nature's Wonder' stamp set that I thought completed this card well.

The second card is also water-colored, this time using an embossed image. Check out this soft willowy image!

This card started with the die embossed onto a piece of watercolor paper. I added the same colors of ink listed above to the embossed areas on the paper. I filled in the sky with Tumbled Glass Distress Inks and spritzed the paper and let the colors move.

Check out how soft the colors are after they spread!  If you look closely, you can see a faint outline on the flowers and grass, This was achieved by using a brayer to apply Hickory Smoke Distress ink directly to the die and re-embossing the piece. I love how it just spotlights the flowers!

The sentiment is from Stampers Anonymous 'Tiny Text' Stamp. I love these sets for the variety of sentiments for all occasions! I stamped it on a strip of watercolor paper and applied to the front of the piece. The embossed piece is mounted on an A2 cardbase.

I have a video on my YouTube Channel documenting the process for these two cards. I hope you enjoy the video I'd love to have you subscribe to my channel.

In addition to these cards, I created three other cards using backgrounds from my stash. Do you make backgrounds and save for "just the right card"? Once I get going with a background technique, I tend to make several and find just the right opportunity to use them at a later date.

I used two alcohol ink backgrounds for the first two cards.

Check out the shine on this card! The background is Ranger orange and yellow alcohol inks with gold spotlights from gold Thermoweb Deco Foil applied while still wet. The floral border was cut from gold cardstock and applied over the alcohol ink piece.

The sentiment is from the Stampers Anonymous 'Tiny Text' Stamp by Tim Holtz, embossed in gold on black cardstock. Black cardstock frames this piece beautifully.

I love the elegant look of this card!

This card is also on a Ranger alcohol ink base, this time with rainbow hues. The alcohol inks spread so well on Ranger Yupo Paper

Check out the brillance created from the combination of the bright alcohol inks mounted on black cardstock and topped with the 'Flower Field' Die cut from black cardstock. The sentiment is from the Stampers Anonymous Tiny Text Stamp by Tim Holtz, white heat embossed on a strip of black cardstock.

The final card today used ink smooshing. I love to ink smoosh. This background uses Dusty Concord and Bundled Sage Distress inks on watercolor paper.

This color combo is one of my favorites!  The 'Flower Field' Die was cut from Dusty Concord ink smooshed watercolor paper and mounted on the base.

There is that same sentiment from 'Tiny Text', this time stamped on watercolor paper and popped up with additional strips of cardstock. The watercolor base is mounted on an A2 cardstock base.

Stop by The Funkie Junkie Boutique and check out all the wonderful products available!

I hope you have enjoyed my spotlight. I hope I have inspired you to try different techniques. I'd love to have you follow/subscribe on my social media sites Instagram, Facebook, Blogger and You Tube.  Be well. Be creative!

Saturday Showcase - Christmas with Tim Holtz Yuletide Gatherings Stamp Set

Hello, it is Cec here and today I am presenting the Saturday Showcase.  I have made a couple of Christmas cards and a tag to share with you featuring the new Yuletide Gatherings Stamp Set from Tim Holtz.

For the first card I started with a piece of watercolour card stock cut slightly smaller than my 5" x 7" kraft card blank and inked it by smooshing it through some Tea Dye, Scattered Straw and Old Paper Distress Oxide (Tim Holtz).

Next I added some stenciling with Mini Stencil #19 (Tim Holtz) and Old Paper DI.  A little more stenciling was added after the large image was stamped on the panel.

Once it was dry I stamped the large image from the set with Jet Black Archival Ink (Ranger).

The image was  coloured using a water brush (Tim Holtz) and a variety of Distress Inks - Old Paper, Antique Linen, Gathered Twigs, Fired Bricks, Aged Mahogany, Peeled Paint, Forest Moss and Pine Needles.

I also stamped the small poinsettia image on another piece of watercolour card and coloured it with the same Distress Inks that I used in that portion of the large image.  Once the image was dry I fussy cut it and added it on top of the large image with some dimensional foam.  The edges of the panel were inked with Gathered Twigs DI before it was added to the card blank.

I cut a piece of card stock and ran it through an embossing folder called Starry Night (Sizzix) and then rubbed over the strip with Gold Wax Paste, inked the edges with Gathered Twigs DI and added it to the panel along with a computer generated sentiment that was also inked with Gathered Twigs DI.

Some seam binding was dyed with Antique Linen DI and formed into a loopy bow that was tied with another loopy bow of burlap string.  A pine cone charm was altered with some Gold Mixative Alcohol Ink (Tim Holtz) and added to the bow.

The second card blank is also kraft card stock and measures 4 1/4" x 5 1/2".  I started the layering with a panel of Gold Metallic Kraft Stock (Tim Holtz).  Next came a panel of cream card stock that was embossed with the Starry Nights embossing folder and rubbed with the Gold Wax Paste.

I cut an oval from some green card stock, stamped the small pine branch image with Versamark and heat embossed it with some Gold Embossing Powder.  A computer generated sentiment was inked with Antique Linen DI and added along with some tiny gold sequins.

The little tag measures 3" x 5" and was hand cut from watercolour card stock.  It was inked with Scattered Straw and Old Paper DO before I splattered it with water.  The small poinsettia image was stamped with Jet Black Archival Ink and then coloured with Ruby, Olive, Evergreen and Ancient Scribble Sticks (Dina Wakley).

I used the Christmas THS030 stencil (Tim Holtz) to add the word Joy in Forest Moss and Peeled Paint DI.  A piece of seam binding dyed with Peeled Paint DI was added to the top and finally a few tiny sequins were glued on.

I always love it when I can use one product in a variety of ways and by using different techniques for stamping and colouring this wonderful set shows how versatile it can be.
