  1. At "Cosmic D'Alessandro - Latitudes: Sun Ra Special - Arrival (05.20.13)" I came across two quotations, from Sun Ra that could be viewed\; if you will grant me the license to be so presumptuous as to do so, as credos: "I'm not a minister, I'm not a philosopher, I'm not a politician, I'm in another category." He goes on to say, "THE AIM OF MY COMPOSITIONS: All of my compositions are meant to depict happiness combined with beauty in a free manner. Happiness, as well as pleasure and beauty, has many degrees of existence; my aim is to express these degrees in sounds which can be understood by the entire world. All of my music is tested for effect. By effect I mean mental impression. The mental impression I intend to convey is that of being alive, vitally alive. The real aim of this music is to co-ordinate the minds of peoples into an intelligent reach for a better world, and an intelligent approach to the living future. By peoples I mean all of the peoples of different nations who are living today." D'Alessandro provides no source for these beautiful quotations.

  2. Yotte:
A humble request: at some point after other requests have been fulfilled, will you please re-up 'Hours After' and 'The Shadows Cast By Tomorrow'? It'll be really nice to hear a good rip of "Beautiful Love', 'Love On A Far Away Planet', and Sun Ra's lone vocal of 'Love In Outer Space,' (I know, I know; it's in the singles collection but 'The Shadows Cast By Tomorrow' is an awesome title, and the album has superb graphics!) Thanking you in advance:

  26. It has been inspiring and gratifying to see the outpouring of Ra-love throughout the Omniverse leading up to and on this special day!

Sun Ra's music and inspiration owes its persistence in no small part to the "keepers of the flame" like yotte who selflessly worked to make the music more available for all.

Thank you, yotte, and my best wishes are for you.

And to all those who are not of Earth's dimensions one, the others who are ready, Space is the Place!

    • Have you all seen the official Sun Ra YouTube channel? Some good stuff on there! Check it out:

    • Does anyone have a lossless/FLAC version of "Nature's God - Live in Cairo 1972" they can re-upload? Either the original LP rip, the ArtYard reissue with "Nidhamu" (or both) would be much appreciated.

    1. Hello Reverend B.

The album is there as part of the 7 CD ArtYard box set, but not the vinyl transfer.

The YouTube Sun Ra Channel seems to be run by the Good Doctor himself, Mr. Michael Anderson! He's in charge of the archives and recently re-released many early Ra albums in 24 bit format, some with extra tracks.

My hope is that, since many of the Philadelphia-era Saturns were edits of live show recordings, that the entire performance(s) from where each Saturn album was sourced, will be released in full. See the Universe In Blue sessions on this blog, as a fine example!

  46. Hi Tom,

First off - MANY THANKS to you and the others who have kept this place afloat while I've been too occupied with life's changes to post anything (moving, work, Hi Fi + computer changes, etc). I haven't given up the ghost but I'm still not sure how quickly I'll be able to return to regular posting.

That being said, I recently re-ripped my copy of Live at Red Creek (one of my favorite live albums) and was able to spend some time this morning converting/packaging/uploading. I've posted the new links in the comments at the original post.

No promises on how quickly I'll be able to get something together for Just Friends or Aurora Borealis. Hopefully soon, though.

BTW, have you checked out any of the 2014 iTunes remasters? AMAZING - I understand beginning next year there will be lossless options available (very exciting).

    ReplyDelete
  47. Hi yotte,

Great to see your reply. I wish you all the best in this time of transition for you. I'm so grateful for this home-away-from-Saturn you've worked so hard to create here, and I'm happy to have made my tiny contributions.

Thanks for the Red Creek re-up. I've never heard that one. There has been such a flurry of Sun Ra ROIO sharing these last few months on account of the Centenary, I've been able to hear a much wider range or his live work than ever before. Each performance brings new delight, it seems.

I've not yet checked out the 2014 remasters. I'm glad you think they're so great. I might wait for lossless since I've got so much other stuff to listen to already. It's fun having those to look forward to.

Thanks again, and again it's great to hear from you.

the details shown says it was recorded at The Bottom Line on the 17th Feb 1987 but according to "The Earthly Recordings" on the 17th he played at Grendel's Lair in Philadelphia (without a guitarist). Ra did play The Bottom Line NYC on January 17th but the titles do not include all the above. Ra was playing a few Ellington titles in each set around this time, but obviously something is amiss. Anyone any ideas ?
