American Sniper

Clint Eastwood is a pretty fine actor, but he seems to just flat out kill it as a director.  I'm looking forward to it.

Content Warning

This video may contain copious amounts of violence, blood, and adult language; but that's what makes it good.  (It's a Short Film from ComiCon)

I always did like Thomas Jane as Punisher.

John Carter

I'll just start with this to get it out of the way; this was the first film I've seen in 3D, and I am solidly in the "meh, you can keep that crap off my screen" camp.  It was kind of neat for some of the scenes (aerial battles,) but I'm very glad they didn't do any gimmicky crap and the movie will be just as good on my plain ol' "flat" tv when it's out on DVD (and yes, I'll be getting it.)  Maybe if they actually considered those of us that wear glasses normally it wouldn't be so bad, but I wish the fad would pass.

As far as the movie itself goes, there were some big differences from the book, but they didn't detract from the story.  Just like nearly any book-to-film, it's bound to happen.  Thankfully it wasn't a full out abortion like Starship Troopers or something.

The Green Men were pretty much spot on, and the airships were even cooler than I even imagined them in my head reading the books.  I do wish they would have explained a bit more about how Barsoomian technology actually works though.

Overall, I'm glad we went to an afternoon matinee, so only ended up paying $1 more than standard ticket price.  The movie was good, but the "premium" for 3D almost stopped us from even going.  If you're not worried about that, or have the option to see it on a regular screen for the normal price, I'd definitely go for it.

"Act of Valor" AAR

Got a bit dusty in that theater the last couple scenes...

Go see it.

Skiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii

First XC ski trip of the season has finally happened (snow has not cooperated at home this year.)  Nice overall, but the sun did peak out enough to warm the fresh stuff up enough to get tacky, and start freezing to my grippy middle section, so by the end of the trail I wasn't gliding anymore.  Hopefully tomorrow it'll be a bit better, and different trails means hopefully different conditions.

We're going to head into the nearest town big enough to have a theater in an hour or so and catch "Act of Valor," which I'm pretty excited about.

No photos to show, I forgot the microSD to SD adapter card thingy, so no way to pull them off the up-armored camera.

That'll Add Some Realism...

Apparently they used live ammo for many of the scenes in "Act of Valor."

Cool beans. From the previous trailers, I'd just thought since they had SEALs in the film and plenty of Technical Advisors that actually know their shit, they just kept the CGI at a more realistic level.

The Hobbit

First official trailer is out-

I've always like The Hobbit more than the trilogy.  It seems more "story" and less "history text."

It could be that I grew up watching the classic animated one, but I'm really happy to see it coming back to the big screen.

Act of Valor

You've probably already seen the preview, and know the hook (SEALs played by real live SEALs!!) but it does look pretty cool, with lots of cool gear to drool over.  May have to get some people together and go see it.

Cat Shit One

Starting on Feb. 5th, the first episode with English dubbing will be up for a limited time on iDa Entertainment's site, and the first DVD & Blue Ray sets will be available on Amazon.

Cat Shit One - THE ANIMATED SERIES - DVD English Edition Cat Shit One - THE ANIMATED SERIES - Blu-ray English Edition

I'm pretty excited, I've seen the first episode with subtitles, and it was awesome, but it's nice to not have to read and miss the action.

100 Best

Movie Spaceships

Flipping through killing some time...

ETA:  Now that I've flipped through, good to see Serenity in the top 10, if not for the design of the ship, but for what it stands for.  As for the number one choice, well, it may be heresy in some circles, but really?  Just because it's from Star Wars?  The most overrated franchise I can think of? Lame....

Guns & Coffee at the Movies!

Felt like stock picture was necessary...

So me and a couple buddies checked out The Expendables today (ok, yesterday...) and I gotta say, I was not disappointed.  Sly knows how to do an action movie.  Not so over the top as to have you saying "yeah right" through most of it, but enough to make it flashy and fun.  My only complaints are that their carbines could have had more and clearer screen time.  All I could tell was they were 11.5" AR types with Noveske KX3s on the end (and with crap-tastic GI mags... you'd think when your buying your own stuff you'd get good mags...)  That and the guy with the AA-12 burned up all the profits with his gratuitous use of the mini-grenade rounds.

All in all, if you like Rambo-esque action films, get to the theater.

Inception

Pretty decent, despite my irrational dislike of Leonardo DeCaprio (you know that one guy that everybody likes, and for some reason that makes you hate him more? For no reason? You're not even sure why you don't like him to start with for His Noodly sake!  That's kinda how I feel.)  The concept is pretty cool, and gives you plenty of leeway to suspend that pesky disbelief.

The thing that surprised the crap out of me was the amount of gun porn.  Sig Commandos, SCARs, Berettas, H&Ks, Glocks... I know I'm missing a bunch, but I lost track.  I don't think I ever saw any in a single preview, but wow there's some great gunfights in that one!
