Fall Baking

OK so I know I have been pretty much MIA for the last while but anyways-we're back. I have been thinking lately about journaling the girls more and realized that was one of my main reasons for even having a blog.
About a week ago I came home from work and the girls asked if we could 'make cookie?' so we made no bake cookies. It was pretty cute and lets be honest frustrating not-so-relaxing. Since then Kaya has wanted to cook with me a couple of times and McKenna even got in on the fun. We're making pie dough, I know the worst thing to have your kids wanna stir for 3 hours right? not to mention we're up to our neck in flour. Anyways it was pretty fun and something I think we'll start to do more of, cooking that is not pie dough.

McKenna wanted me to start taking pics of Kaya again and leave her alone.

Lately

Yup 'big' girl beds! and no, they don't give a crap about anything 'big girl' not that I haven't tried reenforcing the whole it's-cool-to-be-'big' thing. Anyways, we had to, really didn't want to but  I taped them and they were getting in and out of their cribs crawling and over the place and generally creating havic instead of sleep so I couldn't put it off any longer.

Second big thing is this

Her name is Kloe and she is an 8 week old Golden Retriever. Gus really really wanted a puppy and a dog would make me feel safer when I am home alone so we found her. She is very cute the girls ADORE her.

Third big thing
We are going to have a TUTU party because the little monsters are turning TWO! can you believe it? I can't. They are getting so big and so fun unless you count the hour I just spent trying to get them in bed as they giggled watching me run back and forth putting them back into bed for nap time. *Screw that plan I had to take McKenna out and wait for Kaya to fall asleep (who didn't dare leave her bed because I put her on time out for that already) then take McKenna back in and lay with her till she fell asleep. So not a one person job! *Anyways, they are the light of my life!!!! and the twinkle in daddy's eye.

...only one month left...

So here it is March and I am realizing my babies have less than a month before they are no longer one! ohhh, dear when did this happen to us? Well, honestly I'll tell you two has been here for a while, at least when it comes to attitudes.  So now to what mischief we have been creating lately.
They are finally speaking but it's their own special language most the time. The only sentences we really understand are 'I need more' and 'where'd they go?' the latter is usually heard over the intecom at nap time. Silly girls.  They love movies esp Toy Story, Jungle Book and Despicable ME. I have watched Toy Story countless times.  They run so fast and DON'T listen very well when I ask them to come back or here and not to touch that but I guess they are kids so I am preaching to the choir huh?  We have not started potty training or sleeping in beds.  Beds I don't want to touch until I have too and potty training we are getting closer but I don't think any of us are ready yet so I can wait.

Kaya says McKenna's name it sounds like nama so I never know if its nana or mama and then slowly I realize it McKenna. Kaya is a mama's girl right now, she loves me and will walk around the house saying my name. And loves me to sit with her in what ever shes doing. She is still the pickiest eater there ever was and as skinny as a toothpick. She is a little bit more independent than her sister, still just as naughty though.

McKenna is still competing with her daddy for the title of 'Clark Clown' she makes the funniest little faces and is always so happy just doing her own thing. She loves to cudddle and has been known it sit on dad's lap and drink her sippy. Which is second only to the 'b' (blanket) in list of favorites. Dad is a close second.  She is also very picky with food and LOVES chocolate. She is very very mischievous and has this little grin she gives you when she knows she is not listening to you.  Little sweet heart right?
I adore them though and we have so much fun. Although I don't think I will remember this next year...

Flowers series

You are probably wondering what this is. These are for Emily (or anyone who is interested), I figured out how to make all these fabric flowers that are selling for like $8 or something outragous and they only take about two minutes! Anyways since my dear friend Emily lives in Denver this is the only way I can show her how to make these little beauties.
This first one is the easiest of them all. And like I said they are really popular now.
Cut circles in different sizes using templates off of common house hold objects like a cup,

Take a lighter, that right, a lighter and burn the edges so they curl up. Ohh, ya you will want to use organza because it's a plastic fabric and will melt.

Then layer your burnt little circles I think it's adorable to add a circle of netting in between layers but thats just me... sew them together and add embellishments to the center and there you go! So pretty huh? I love these little things.

Fluffy Flower

The flower on the left is made out of pink tricot and it's for my niece Aislynn. The two on the right are made from toule.

Cut a circle using a template.

Fold the circle in half.

then fold into thirds

Then sew onto a felt base.

You can do two things you can layer these until you get the round huge flower or you can just use one layer and made them out of different fabric or prints it's really versatile and they all look fabulous!

Tube Flower

Tube Flower how to:

Using organza any color of course, cut it into a tube and sew down  the side/sides. The bigger the tube the bigger the flower.

Fold the tube in half covering up your seams.

Smash/gather your tube and organize it to look just right,

Sew it onto a felt back, add embellishments of your choice to the center and whaaa laa, the perfect adornment!

Flower cont...

Flower (gall I can't think of a name. Any suggestions?)
Cut a round circle using something as a template. Using a CD for the template the finished flower was about 2-3 inches in diameter
Do a very loose stich around the whole outside of the flower.

gather your stich completely till you have a little pouch.
Smash the pouch till it's flat then add a button or beads in the center to cover up your edges
And your done, it's beautiful huh?

The Year of 2 and 5...

I can't believe how quickly these past few month have flown! The girls are soooooooo big now.  They have sprouted even more little attitude personality. The list of words goes on and on probably up to 40. My favorite is that they have started calling Gus 'Gus'. Kaya was screaming it at him the other day, and we both looked at each other wondering if that was what she was really saying, and then I just started laughing (of course, cause she isn't calling me Mara). It's so cute though she holds the sssss out. They adore seasme street and any horse! For Christmas they each got like 3 horses and they are in heaven with the new doll house. Which leads me to the title, in a couple of months they will be 2 years old. I can't believe it. I have heard very mixed opinions on 2 year old twins-some say it gets better others much worse we will see I guess. But I absolutely love having twins; I have never laughed more in my entire life and I am married to Gus...
And 5? Well, in June Gus and I will be celebrating year 5! I can't believe I have been married that long, it seems like well not to long ago that we were just getting married. Now I am an old newly wed! What have I learned? Be grateful and don't sweat the small stuff. The other day on T.V. I watched an movie and the guy said 'marriage is hard forget all the crap and just make it work'. I agree but I am also married to one heck of a guy...
In 2010 we had so much help and support from family and I just want to make sure you all know nothing went unnoticed and we love you very much!
pics to come
