Making bases for the Reapers

When the Soul Reapers were replaced Mr Justin at Secret Weapon Miniatures donated bases for the rebuild. To which I am very grateful for, however since that time GW has moved Marines from 25mm bases to 32mm bases; I would just purchases 32mm bases from him as replacements however I am totally strapped for funds right now, so have decided to make my own replacements.

I am using Sculpey clay to sculpt the base tops; Sculpey is a work into shape clay that you bake to harden once ready. Here are the initial test bases raw and cut to size.

Here are the same bases painted with some WiP Reapers on them.

Here are a couple compared to a 40mm SWM resin base

They are a little rough, the next batch will be a bit thinner with crisper lines, but they will work very well in the long run.

Until next time!

Blog news and narrative gaming updates

I have started up a new Facebook page for the narrative events I run locally. I plan to talk about narrative gaming in general as well a do all the lead up work for my events and campaigns there.

If you are interested feel free to jump into the conversations on Big Jim's Narrative Gaming Productions!

Now onto the blog news:

It has been hard to maintain Galaxy in Flames as well as podcasting on 2 shows, commission paint, watch over TCP, while keeping engaged on the Custodes forum. I have become so busy in the hobby the blog has suffered, so goes life.

So the plan for the blog going forward is to put my painting and modeling here as well as battle reports. I do plan to post once a week from this point on as well, I am behind in posting pics of miniatures that I have finished in the past few months. Everything else will move to the appropriate other sites that I maintain.

So Killzone will move exclusively to TCP. Although I will post links to updates here.

Narrative gaming other than battle reports will move to FB

Cowboy Commission for Carl

I cannot believe I forgot to post this, it has been sitting as a draft for a couple of months. Sometimes I would lose my head if it were not attached. lol

Here are 10 cowboy miniatures I painted for Carl from the Independent Characters. I am really pleased with the way the turned out. They are Black Scorpion miniatures and were a joy to paint!

CelestiCon Terrain: new building ruins

I am working on some ruined buildings for the CelestiCon Narrative event. I like my buildings to be on the more realistic looking side. Festooned with lots of rubble and debris, it looks fantastic on the tabletop. Problem is most gamers go bonkers due to functionality with miniatures in game.

So I am debating a compromise, strew sand all over the interior with minimal debris near the actual walls, but then make rubble inserts to place in the buildings for when infantry and tanks are not inside. Similar to what we do with removable trees for forests.

What do y’all think, should I compromise to cater to everyone or should I just go nuts and go old school then say the heck with playability since it will look Kool!?!

Chaos drifting hulk cruiser

Here is the first of a few drifting hulks for my Chaos fleet. This started life as a poorly built ebay model. Thanks to my buddy Kev for converting this for me, the details are great!

I can think of lots of ways to use this model, it can be used to represent the first hulked out ship in a battle, or as part of the space "terrain".
