BBC Worldwide has announced a new collaboration with content distribution service BitTorrent to mark a decade of new Doctor Who.

To celebrate ten years since the series reboot, the file sharing network will be offering a ten story box set featuring specially selected highlights from the modern era of Doctor Who for $12 globally.

The package will include exclusive video content from incumbent Doctor Peter Capaldi who gives his insight into some of his favourite Doctor Who episodes as well as Doctor Who: Earth Conquest – the documentary about the 2014 global tour which saw Capaldi and companion Jenna Coleman travel the world to meet their fans.

Silva Screen are to release Murray Gold's music from The Day of the Doctor and The Time of the Doctor on a two disc CD. The set will be released in the UK the day after Doctor Who's 51st anniversary on Monday, 24th November 2014.

Murray Gold’s lush and spirited scores to the final two episodes of Matt Smith's journey as The Doctor. Featuring the BBC National Orchestra of Wales and Crouch End Festival Chorus conducted by Ben Foster.

The first disc presents music from the 50th Anniversary episode, The Day of the Doctor, starring Matt Smith, David Tennant and John Hurt, with a guest appearance from Tom Baker and a two second 13th Doctor incarnation of Peter Capaldi.

BBC Worldwide are offering replacement discs to fans who bought the Blu-ray version of the 50th Anniversary box set. The new disc will fix a frame rate fault on Disc 2 which contains The Day of the Doctor. Fans have been expressing disappointed with the fault on forums since the release on 8 September and eventually drew attention of the BBC. One fan received the following email:

Thank you for your continued patience.

We are pleased to respond to our fans’ requests for this title to be made available in its original frame rate. We are offering replacements for Disc 2 only from the 50th Collector’s Edition Blu-ray (2D version), which includes the Day of the Doctor. Customers unhappy with their original 23.98 disc can send it (without packaging) to the Freepost address below, and we will send out a 50i replacement. Remember to include your full name and postal details clearly inside the package for the return. The estimated time frame for the new replacement discs to be available is 4-5 weeks. Please allow some time for the replacement disc to reach you.

Doctor Who Magazine has confirmed that a limited edition 50th Anniversary DVD/Blu-ray box set will be released in the autumn.

6,000 Blu-rays and 4,000 DVDs will be released of the set, which was first rumoured in February, when the BBFC cleared several extras for inclusion on the discs. As well as the 50th Anniversary special, The Day of the Doctor, the disc set will include the episodes The Name of the Doctor and Matt Smith's final story as The Doctor, The Time of the Doctor.

Also included will be the docu-drama on the creation of Doctor Who, An Adventure in Space & Time, available on Blu-ray in the UK for the first time, and the Peter Davison-directed spoof The Five(ish) Doctors Reboot. Other extras include a large number of documentaries shown around the period of the show's 50th Anniversary as well as some behind-the-scenes material.

The Day of the Doctor was the most-watched drama on BBC Television last year, with an average of 12.8 million viewing.

The figures are confirmed in the BBC Annual Report published today, which also reveals that 3.2 million requested the 50th-anniversary episode on iPlayer.

Doctor Who is listed as one of the global highlights of the year, with the Doctor Who special being shown on TV in 98 countries, with 3D screenings in 23 countries, broadcast in 15 languages, and selling 649,138 cinema tickets in 25 countries. Following transmission, the episode went straight to the top of the iTunes US and Amazon charts, illustrating appetite for the Doctor Who brand, which has 4.3m fans on Facebook.

BBC Worldwide, the BBC's commercial arm, also reported on how well the series performs for the Corporation. The Day Of The Doctor sold more DVD copies in its first week than any previous Doctor Who title. Additionally, the returned classic Doctor Who episodes, The Enemy of the World and The Web of Fear, topped the iTunes TV chart in October. By offering fans exclusive products, such as limited edition box sets and branded apparel, the e-commerce business at BBCShop.com has increased by 30.4%.

In North America the Doctor Who 50th-anniversary episode reached almost 4.5m viewers on the day and set a record for activity related to a televised event on Tumblr, surpassing the Super Bowl and MTV VMAs. The Doctor Who Christmas special premiere was BBC America's first-ever audience over 3m.

BBC Worldwide reported that although revenue from consumer products in the US as a whole was marginally down, it outperformed the declining US DVD market. This was aided by Doctor Who 50th-anniversary programming, which also fuelled an 80.1% uplift in licensing, with total licensing revenue equating to over US$100m in retail sales. The one-day theatrical release of The Day of the Doctor delivered the equivalent of US$4.8m at the box office, making it the second-highest US box office hit on the night.

In Australia the Doctor Who 50th-anniversary broadcast reached 1.7m viewers, while the sales of Doctor Who DVDs increased by 59.6%. Live events included the Doctor Who Symphonic Spectacular touring three cities, and the 50th-anniversary episode screening was seen by more than 95,000 cinema-goers in 131 cinemas. BBC Worldwide Australia launched four Doctor Who pop-up shops and an online store.

In Latin America The Day of the Doctor was seen by 24,000 people in cinemas across the region.

Overall, BBC Worldwide made a headline profit of £157.4 million.

The Day of the Doctor was watched by 10.2 million viewers in the UK according to unofficial overnight figures.

The 50th Anniversary story achieved an audience share of 37.4% of the total television audience, beating ITV's The X Factor, which had 7.7 million watching.

Doctor Who was the second most-watched show of the day, with Strictly Come Dancing just edging into first place with 10.6 million viewers. ITV's other big hitter, I'm a Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here!, came in at number 4 with 9.2 million watching. 5th for the day was a special Doctor Who-themed edition of Pointless Celebrities which had 5.0 million viewers.

Doctor Who is currently the third most-watched programme for the week.

The figures include those who watched the show live on BBC One, or who recorded it and watched it before 2am. They do not include those watching on iPlayer or at any of the multiple cinema showings.

Final official figures will be released next week.

The papers have been reviewing The Day of the Doctor, with most of them being impressed by the 50th anniversary episode.

The Mirror loved the show, saying how Steven Moffat "has put something together that not only gives hardcore fans a beautiful reinvention of their favourite show, but also gives casual viewers a stonking story." The paper praises the acting as "superb," with Matt Smith holding his own against veteran John Hurt. The Telegraph compares the acting styles of David Tennant and Matt Smith, calling the former "edgy and mercurial," and the latter "gentler, with a boyish eccentricity." They praised John Hurt as a "fantastic counterpoint to the physicality of Tennant and Smith," adding "with one withering look, he was able to silence his younger selves"

The Guardian found the episode "confusing" but praised the "beautiful acting." The Mail called the episode "typically chaotic, full of big, hollow bluster and knowing tiny detail." The paper disliked the effects, accusing the BBC of pandering to the American audience, while disliking the Zygons as not scary enough.

Online Mashable talked of "a towering achievement of an episode, one designed to please fans and newcomers alike which shows why the Doctor is finding his way into ever more homes and hearts." TVfanatic praised Steven Moffat for doing justice to a long-running favorite by "paying homage to the past and opening up a new future of what will hopefully be a show generations in the future will continue to love."

According to social analytics company, SecondSync Doctor Who generated almost half a million tweets during its simultaneous broadcast to over 90 countries. Most tweeting about the episode were female, with the peak number of tweets occurring at the beginning of the episode at 12,939 tweets per minute.

The BBC have now released The Last Day via iTunes. This is the second minisode to be released in anticipation of this weekend's The Day of the Doctor, and is described thus:

First day on the front line? Time to attach a Headcam for a soldier's point-of-view. What could possibly go wrong?

Unlike The Night of The Doctor, this minisode does not feature any of the characters/situations currently unveiled for The Day of the Doctor, but instead relates to another, related day ...

The clip is currently listed for £2.49 in the United Kingdom store, or for free in the United States.

It will also be available as a special feature on the forthcoming DVD/Blu-Ray release of the Anniversary adventure.

UPDATE

The BBC have now confirmed that the minisode should be free of charge in the UK as well as the rest of the world. A BBC spokesman told RadioTimes.com

This is an error on the part of iTunes. This should have been free. We’re waiting to hear back from them about how this will be rectified.

The extra content for the DVD and Blu-ray release of The Day of the Doctor was revealed today - including another mini-episode.

BBC Worldwide said the 50th-anniversary episode would be accompanied by the following:

• The Night of the Doctor mini-episode
• The Last Day - a second mini-episode
• Doctor Who Explained
• Behind The Lens
• The Day of the Doctor TV trailer
• 50 Years of Doctor Who trailer

The release will also contain English subtitles for the hard of hearing, audio description, and audio navigation. The main feature will have a 5.1 soundtrack.

It will be released for Region 2 (the UK, rest of Europe, and Ireland) on Monday 2nd December (pre-order DVD, Blu-ray), and for Region 1 (USA and Canada) on Tuesday 3rd December (pre-order DVD, Blu-ray/DVD combo - two discs). Please note that the Blu-ray release will play normally on both 3D and standard Blu-ray players but the 3D will only work on a Blu-ray 3D player. Release dates for other regions are unknown at the moment.

The BBC's annual fundraising event Children in Need is in full swing tonight, and at 7:55pm it was the Doctor's turn to encourage people to donate to the cause with an exclusive clip from the 50th Anniversary special, The Day of the Doctor; the clip featured Matt Smith as the Doctor, Jenna Coleman as Clara, Jemma Redgrave as Kate, plus David Tennant as the Doctor and a very brief glimpse of Joanna Page as Elizabeth!
