NOVEMBER SCAVENGER PHOTO HUNT 2018.

Linking with Kate for the last hunt of this year.  And what a year it has been for most of the Hunters with such beautiful photos from all that participate.  This month's word list was a bit tricky, but it is amazing what you see & have in the archives.  Here goes.

1.  POST/MAILBOX.
The row of mailboxes at the corner of Bumbalong Road on the Monaro Highway between Canberra                                                                               & Cooma.

2.  DECAY.
An abandoned shop in the small settlement of Beeac on the road between Colac & Cressy  west of                                                                                Melbourne.
3.  SECONDHAND.
Our dressing table, with bed reflected in the mirror.  This is Edwardian & both it & the bed were purchased in about 1987/88 when we moved to Tasmania.  Sitting at a set of traffic lights outside a shop called Boomerang Furniture, I excitedly announced, "I want that dressing table in the window".
Some weeks later I walked from the Bank (where I was working), up to the shop & was able to 'lay-bye' it & pick up when it was all payed for.  When I arrived to pick it up, the owner told me, he'd had a bed come in that was also in blackwood & would look good with it, so, lo & behold, we went home with 2 items.  We still have them to this day, although the bed has been converted to a queen size, as hubby is 6'3".

4.  STRAND.
On the right is the small set of drawers I keep my 'stranded' cottons in.  The bottom 2 drawers are the neat & tidy ones.

Below we have an old rowing boat stranded on a sandbank on Westernport Bay near Hastings.  It  may even be covered at high tide.

5.  FOLD.

This is sort of a "now you see it, now you don't" when folded up, then opened.
So sorry about the quality of these photos, but they are actually prints I've had to scan onto this post.
Our camper trailer (no longer with us), that we towed with the Morris & it saw many adventures.
This was the one I found tricky, as I really wanted it to be different, as I'd thought of all sorts, but they were just not right.

6.  MY OWN CHOICE.
As I love animals of all kinds so much, what better way to end this year's final hunt, but with a beautiful little lizard. I took this photo many years ago in Lane Cove National Park in Sydney.  We were staying at the caravan park there & saw possum & kookaburras, but just couldn't capture them on camera, then I spotted this little beauty sunning himself on the path.
Browsing the archives nets some great photos, that we sometimes forget about, so thanks to Kate, they appear here many years later.

THANK YOU KATE......and to all who take their time to be a part of this fabulous hunt hosted by Kate.  The photos and accompanying stories always amaze, amuse & make me feel a part of a wider community of friends from near & far.
Take care all and huggles.
Susan.

JUNE SCAVENGER PHOTO HUNT (2018)

Linking up with the lovely Kate from I live, I love, I craft, I am me to join in with our photo hunt.

This month's words were a little easier for me and I'm afraid I just dipped into the archives, as the weather here has been cold, wet & quite miserable, especially for photography.
Here we go.......................

1.  YELLOW.
WATTLE.
I was hoping to actually get a photo for this, but most of the wattle is still in bud, so found one taken last year. (I think).

2.  It starts with..............T

I cheated here and chose two.
The one above was photographed in an Antique & Bric a Brac shop some years ago in Rosedale.
I thought it very clever and cute made from an old sewing machine.

The one above was from last year's Vintage Commercial Vehicle Show held at a racecourse near Melbourne.

3.  LILAC.

Two again I'm afraid, as was it the colour lilac or...........A Lilac?
Our wisteria in full flower over the pergola.
It also smelled wonderful.
These two photos (above & below), were taken at our old house here, which I often refer to as No. 4.
Can you see my lilac on the far side of the steps near a verandah post?  It was really pretty & of course this is the garden I still think of as my favourite, but alas, it is no longer mine.

4.  It starts with............G
A GOANNA!!!!!
I took this photo as we were driving through the forests in East Gippsland, when we were away a few years ago.  I couldn't believe my luck, when we saw it and were able to pull to the side of the little used road and take a few snaps, before he scooted up the tree.  If you click on the photo, you'll probably see him better.

5.  SILVER.
This fellow sits at the side of an off ramp on the Nepean Freeway, on the Mornington Peninsular.  I took the photo earlier this year, just in case we needed the colour "SILVER", for a photo hunt.😃  It was quite awkward to get a good photo, but I think you can gauge just how silvery he is.

6.  My own choice.
Oh dear, this may offend or make you laugh hilariously..........................
but  I just had to 'hopefully', make everyone smile.
This I snapped in May, on a day out (I do need to catch up on some overdue posts), to Arthur's Seat, again on the Mornington Peninsular.  This particular day, we chanced upon a Motor Museum & in we went (of course), with my motor mad hubby, & my camera in hand.  Among all the lovely vintage cars, bikes & motoring memorabilia, I spied a section given over to vintage homewares & toys, etc.  What did I find, but this condiment set, possibly from the 50/60s?  Can you really imagine putting oil and vinegar in these, on the table,  then using them?

OK, that is my lot for this month.  And yes I'm  a little early as I'm off to a "quilt retreat" at my friend Judy's in Bordertown for the weekend.  I'll have a little look possibly in the evening & also link with Kate when she has the Mr. Linky up.
Take care all and huggles.
Susan.

QUICK TRIP TO SYDNEY.

Last week saw us head to Sydney for a few days to help my younger brother with an interview to access the new scheme they are rolling out here in Oz for disabled people.  All went reasonably well.
Whilst there we also caught up with family and friends.
We stayed south of Sydney due to the caravan park where we used to stay,  has now gone, so it was panic stations to find something suitable, inexpensive & with en-suite sites.  Found, though it did mean a bit of travelling back & forwards, but that was OK.
A lot of photos  taken of the week away, with a small selection here.  We stayed south of Sydney in an area we know well, having lived there for about 9 years before we came to Victoria.  I also spent a lot my childhood holidays & outings on the South Coast of NSW.

Typical countryside of the South Coast & a road we've travelled may times.

East Beach at Kiama, accessed from the caravan park where we stayed.

An action shot of hubby jumping across the running water.

Waves breaking on the rocks.  Most were small until this one came along.
What happens when these hit whilst standing staring out to sea.
                                                                           THIS!!!!!
You get very wet as hubby found out.

Then whilst waiting for me to make a cup of tea & with legs outstretched drying in the sun, this critter (duck) came along & bit him on the ankle.  I couldn't stop laughing!!  There must have been something tasty on his trouser leg.
On Saturday we visited my bestie from school, whom I've known since I was 5 1/2.  She minded me on my first day at a new school & we've kept in touch ever since, though there have been times when it was few and far between.  She said I could put this photo on & I do have a better one where I don't look so silly, but I don't know how to get it off my tablet.  This tech stuff does my head in at times.
Sue on the right & me on the left.

Now for a funny story before we head home with some more scenery.
On Sunday we met up with our older son & his family for a day at a Car Show.  We don't see a lot of A due to him being so far away, but it was a lovely day out. His partner J, our drandaughter Miss A, grandsons, B1, J & R all did a lot oohing & aahing over the vehicles on display.
One of them caught my eye.
Now remember, I'm an Aussie girl who had her teen years in the swinging sixties.
"Oh", I said, "What a bright orange panel van".  As the boys moved further along & Miss A was out of earshot, I laughingly told J, I was actually going to say, look at that 'shagging wagon', but thought better of it with the kids around.  She started laughing and said she was actually going to say that too, but thought I might not approve.  Whilst we were laughing about all this, a voice next to me said, "Really Nana", & Miss A had overheard us, but then she is nearly 21, so it was the laughter all round.
I forget she is all grown up now.
At the show we saw this and all agreed it could be on Pop's garage door.

Just a few more pics of the trip back home.
The bridge at Bateman's Bay which has a centre section that elevates to let boats through.

Wagonga Inlet at Narooma where we ate lunch.

We were asked to pull over by the police as this appeared coming the other way.
What was behind it?

This very large piece of equipment.
Our older son A, actually works on the mechanical side of things like this.

We stopped at the lookout to take some photos of Bega with the mountains in the distance.
It is quite stunning scenery all the way down the coast of NSW.

Threatening clouds that didn't amount to anything at all.

Just 2 more.
Closeup of flowers from an Illawarra Flame tree, that are dotted around the Wollongong area south of Sydney.
Not sure they are called this anymore, but what we said as kids.
On our lunch break on the last leg of our journey at Cann River, I took a photo of this old church.
I've said many times over the years, I should take one & now I have.

OK, enough from me and I will be back on the weekend, "hopefully", with some crafty bits 'n' bobs, that I've got on the go, to post about along with whatever else is happening in our part of the world.
Take care all and lots of huggles.
Susan.
PS.  Thanks to all who browsed my Scavenger Photo Hunt, as their were some newbies in there.  Ta!

ADVENT CALENDAR 17th & 18th.

Linking up with Hawthorn and Julie for the Advent Calendar.

DAY 18.

This photo was taken at Fountains Abbey, the same place Hawthorn showed in her No. 17 post yesterday.

DAY 17.

Taken on our way home from Canberra last month.  We stayed in Eden on the far south coast of New South Wales, an area we know well.  I'll post about some of our trip at a later date, but this at least gave me a 17.
The crafting has really come to a standstill.  Yesterday, & why I didn't post, was because we decided to take a day out, but got caught in traffic, both going & then coming home.  Two  of my stops didn't happen, though I've found that they are actually next door to each other now, which is 'maybe', not a good thing.
1. A quilt shop.  2. Kaisercraft - a craft shop.
I knew we were too late for either, arriving in Geelong just after lunchtime, so we visited one of our favourite reclamation stores and spotted both of these below.  Talk about a trip down nostalgia lane.

A small switchboard.

Old school desks.
As for the switchboard, my first experience was a slightly smaller one than this, with what I always called drop down eyelids, then the next one was a bit like this (just an hour during lunch break), and I hated using the PA system.  My last one, again just in the lunch hour was a huge double board with an enormous amount of lines both in, out and extensions.  I actually enjoyed it.

I remember school desks like this in primary school, with their lift up lids and inkwells in the centre.
Oh, those were the days!  How things have changed.

Lastly, today I decided I just couldn't sew or craft in that dark space I showed the other day and have bitten the bullet and started changing it all around.  I'll now sew in one of the back bedrooms, which didn't have a bed anyway, just bits & bobs of my craft, fabric & some plastic tubs.  I think I'll be much happier with more light. That'll be an after Xmas post.

Hope everyone is having a great weekend.
Take care all.
Susan.
