Extra Class at The Papered Parlour....

Roll up, roll up...... Before we schedule the summer classes, The Papered Parlour have put on an extra class. June 12th - book here as they always sell out...

Tuesday

New Classes!

First up - two new dates for Spring for my contemporary quilting classes. I'm really flattered these sell out so fast and love the day. It's wonderful to hear the stories behind much loved pieces of fabric or clothing. Even better to see everyone create pieces of beauty.

So book for these two classes here.

Secondly - and most excitedly I have a new class in Spring. I think I've hammered on long enough about creating havens - more importantly, for you to create your own haven - creating your story as it were. So we have two dates in Spring where hopefully I can help you figure out what home means to you and help you 'get your story going'. I'm thrilled about this class and would love to see you. Book here for this one.

Much planning for this then!
PS: Still scraping paint but boy it's going to be a beautiful room. I'm a frenzy of hunting down pieces in reclamation yards, searching for restored door knobs etc etc. Only nine more rooms after this one...........

C'mon, c'mon

Two classes left this year. Book here. It's a lovely way to spend a day I promise!

Sunday's class

Was terrific!

I love teaching - which is odd, as I am a tested and confirmed introvert. But the notion of helping people make something that means a great deal to them is vital to me. It doesn't have to be a quilt. But that's where I discovered the power of creating heirlooms. The original idea of quilting was to make something firstly that was practical, then personal, and most of all precious. I get frustrated by high street blandness, enthralled by hand-turned wooden bowls, disappointed by 'pretend' hand-made, but rather emotional about hand-thrown Welsh pots.

My Poppa was a toy-maker. He died when I was five but I remember very clearly standing next to him at his work-bench making the wheels for the wooden trucks and tractors he made. My mother is the most phenomenal textile artist - I cant believe what she makes - and mostly for other people.

So, if my own small way I can get people to make something with love, for someone they love, then happy am I.

I have one last class before lying down for August (not really lying down, but it's sounds like what I should be doing). Come and join us.

As a last note - unbelievably Jane Brocket came to my class. It really was quite unbelievable. She wrote a lovely piece on it today. I'm thrilled she came, and it just confirms that creating Havens is really as important as I think it should be.

Wednesday

Two more quilting classes at The Papered Parlour before we retire for summer...

Book here for either July 11th or August 8th.

It will be fun, fun, fun!

Tuesday

Free crafty fun at The Papered Parlour!

Come on down to The Papered Parlour on July 4th for a free (ahem, yes totally FREE) afternoon of crafty fun.

I'll be teaching American style patchwork, there will be Andy Warholesque screen printing, as well as doodling for the kids.
The Papered Parlour girls will be hosting all-American live music from finger-picking folkies playing Bob Dylan, Woody Guthrie and other traditional tunes from across the Atlantic.

Plus there’ll be genuine red, white and blueberry cakes, hot apple pie and cold lemonade...

Best of all, it won’t cost you a dime!

Hope to see you there! It's only in Clapham - not far, and there's the common and many, many pubs for you to enjoy before and after!

Monday

Yesterdays class

Was just great. We had all sorts of lovely ladies who brought inspiring pieces of fabric that were important to them. Some could sew, some couldn't. It really didn't matter. They all left (hopefully) happy, fired up and creativity unleashed!

Next class is in June and I can't wait!

Wednesday

Some piccies from our contemporary quilting class

Such fun.

We have one space left for May 9th, and a new class on June 6th. Book here!

Tuesday

The Papered Parlour - Our new studio!

We moved into our new studio space at the Papered Parlour this morning ( it was indeed still dark ). Later on, Lily and I walked a very pleasant 20 minutes through the common to start work properly for the day. A very good day today - two quilts pieced and inspiration for the next one.
