Americans on the offensive?

Today we had a return to the American Revolution (AWI to us Brits!)

We had expected to be a threesome, hence the choice of game, but Rhod managed to get another Saturday free, so ended up being a Sullivan to support my Washington!

Things started well for the Rebels/Patriots as I rolled really well for initiative and got 'the bounce' on the British! I even got to deploy in one of the flank sectors and overlap the British line! Oddly our random Brigadier draw produced a competent general for me, and 2 for the British! (Theirs were Brave too, giving the a morale advantage)

The battlefield for today

My flanking brigade, the New Jerseys.
Next along were my light infantry supported by some more Continentals.
In the centre, my redoubtable Virginians!
Rhod had the odd regiments and Militia...
...and the Marylanders. He also took Sheldon's Horse.
Phil, facing me had a right filled with elites, Grenadiers and Light Infantry, plus the 17th Light Dragoons.
His centre was line infantry, highlanders and Loyalists.
Lawrence, the Hessian as always, took the left.
I managed to get the New Jerseys advancing quickly to outflank the British.
The centre advanced too, but at a slower rate.
Rhod's Marylanders moved through the woods.
The British stood on the defensive so I sent my Continentals to drive off the British Light Infantry.
My Virginians reached the centre of the table, just out of effective cannon range, and halted.
Rhod's light troops powered on to engage the Hessian Feldjägers.
Phil now responded by turning his Grenadiers and advancing his Lights.
The Hessians were trying to extend into the farm complex!
My New Jerseys forced the British Light Infantry back towards the hill.
Only two of my three light infantry units advanced, the third didn't move!
Washington busied himself trying to get some of Rhod's Continentals back out of good gun range, they had advanced too far!!!
The Malylanders had cleared the wood, the following Delawares and 2nd Canadians were still moving through.
The British withdrew their light Infantry behind the hill, my New Jerseys met the Grenadiers who got the best of the first exchange of fire.
The Light Infantry moved behind the guns, while the Grenadiers moved to concentrate fire on my flank regiment.
Rhod's 2nd Continental Light Dragoons leapt the fence as the Hessians occupied a house.
The Marylanders coming up in support managed to damage the Hessians facing them.
Rhod's Dragoons, coming under fire from the 'Chew House' retired in a hurry!
In the centre, both sides were happy to glower!
I was becoming worried that I wouldn't be able to take that vital hill!
Rhod's Continentals fired a short range volley into those Hessians as they tried to close the range.
At the same moment, my damaged New Jersey regiment recovered and fired at short range on the advancing Grenadiers!
The 1st Grenadiers were halted, then destroyed by a second volley!
Despite losing a few men, Rhod's Marylanders destroyed the Hessian regiments facing them.
My second New Jersey regiment closed on the next Grenadier Battalion and got a crashing volley into it.
Phil desperately tried to recover the position by charging his Lights into mine, at first, my men withdrew from the charge but rallied, some astonishing dice from me made my men win the melee!
The British Lights retreated in disorder, and the British decided to cede the field.
Their left was still ok, even with the Hessian losses earlier.
Washington gratefully took the win!!!

It was good to get the guys out again, the last time was last November, and I had to spend some time reminding everyone (including myself) of some of the rules!! We are good now!

Send in the Marines?

Today we had a first go at Sword Weirdos progenitor, Space Weirdos.

I think we all agreed its very similar, with a couple of changes (Dodge for example)

Phil used some lovely Space Dwarves.

Lawrence had a purple gang!!
Rhod had a band of...Kharadron Overlords
I had 4 Imperial Fist Space Marines (Beakies!!)
I provided this side of the table and would face Phil's Dwarves in the first game.
Lawrence had individual cards for his guys, very swish!
Lawrence was allied to me and would face Rhod in his terrain (it curiously reminded me of 'Inside Out' in Riley's abstract world!!!)
In the first move I moved my Marines to cover.
Opposite the Dwarves did the same.
Being Legiones Astartes I moved forward.
The Dwarves seemed happy to let me do so!
On the other side of the table, Rhod moved through the ruins.
Lawrence tried to extend his line past them on the left flank.
Lawrence's man there took out Rhod's flank guard, who had shot at Lawrence's figure, but only provoked a snap shot back, which was lethal!
My flank men were shooting at, and being shot back at the Dwarves in the ruins.
Not much happened, my Heavy Armour saved me more times than I can remember!
On the far side, Rhod's leader killed that chap who this time didn't get a lucky return shot!!!
Lawrence had a good shot into the leader's back though! who was Down and Staggered.
I raced my Sergeant forward to deal with a Dwarf who had just missed hitting my missile launcher in the arch. He had a grenade, which easily silenced the stuntie!
Rhods Leader was soon better and attacked, but was taken out by another of Lawrence's men.
Rhod's Flamethrower roasted another Purple person in revenge!
My Rocket Launcher tried to take out Phil's leader, but missed!
Another of Rhod's men appeared to engage the Purple Person.
He didn't do well, Purple Person is a damn good shot!
My Right hand Marine was Staggered by a Dwarf...
But as my leader tried to attack on the left, an Overwatch shot somehow managed to kill him!!! - that was game end! Phil and Rhod won.

The second game:

I was moved to the right on the opposite side, facing Lawrence.

What did the Purple People have to deal with me?
I moved my Missile launcher into position and fired...
...I only knocked down the leader.
Under fire, my Launcher chap had to dodge incoming return fire.
Lawrence was massing on the building in the centre, he only sent one man round my flank (picture top left)
I tried to get my Lancher man back into action but he was knocked down.
My right flank guard managed to take out his opposite number!
Then a surprise! My Missile Launcher man turned and shot at my leader, who was blasted over a barricade, not best pleased!!!
However, once the Psychic mind control was over, my Missile Launcher man turned and shot the building- a great shot, which staggered the sniper there, but the blast radius caught the Purple leader, and killed him!

Nothing happened in the last turn before the game ended, so we totaled up and found Rhod and I had won!

I think we are finally getting the rules sorted out in our heads, and hope to play again soon!
