Resolution time!

Time for that tried and true  sorta true tradition, the hobby resolution list for the upcoming year.

I had three resolutions from last year. Get the Chaos Marine / Daemon army done (almost complete, so not bad), build a table with painted terrain (done), and get my girl's Khorne army going (does buying a Bloodthirster count?). All in all, not bad!

So for this year,we'll keep it simple again.

1. Finish up the Nurgle army.
2. Get Mandy on painting and modeling her Daemonkin army.
3. PLAY. SOME. GAMES.

To finish the Nurgle army, I still have the following to paint:

Great Unclean One
Chaos Knight
2 Chaos Cultists squads
Nurglings
Plague Zombies
Maulerfiend
Beasts of Nurgle

I'm waiting to see if new Plague Marines or Termies will be released this year; if so, we'll add those to the list too cause I know they're gonna be good. Getting Mandy going with her army won't be too difficult at all as I already have a lot of the stuff, some even painted. Of course, she will add her own touch to them I'm sure. Playing weekly games will become a reality once she is living with me too, so that's awesome to look forward to. I'll also try to get my old gang playing more.

And look at that, progress made already! These Nurglings are a blast to convert and paint up fairly easily. Next up will be the Cultists.

Daemon Prince of Khorne WIP

My girl had a rough night at work last night....so.....I built her a Khornate Daemon Prince to lift her spirits. It's the little things like berserk, daemonic entities from the Warp that count. Somebody's gotta lead her army until we get some Thirsters' for her!

I had this guy in my storage for the longest time. I felt he needed help, as the old model just didn't have the "ooomf" he once had. Now that the new Bloodthirster has been released, his size works great for a Daemon Prince. I added on a little bling to him to spruce him up and switched out his weapons for two Axes of Khorne. Over the top, yes...but isn't that the Blood God's way?

My work here is done.

Plaguebearer progress

It was time to stop buildin', and start paintin', so I grabbed all my Plaguebeaers that had previously been built for my Fantasy army, and got to work over a rainy weekend.

These guys are really easy to paint up, and a lot of fun too; especially once you get into painting the rotten parts like the sores and guts. GW washes really go a long way here.

I added the usual gloss varnish to the sticky parts and will probably add a few more layers once they're dry. The weapons were just some Typhus Corrosion followed by a drybrush of orange to make them look rusted up.

The older metal models will be used as Plagueridden, Icon, or Instrument bearers. Still have some details to paint up on them and to finish the bases, but almost done!

Beasts of Nurgle

Nothing too exciting today, just re-based and did a few adjustments to some counts as Beasts of Nurgle.

I don't know how well they'll do on the tabletop, but they look good! Forgeworld just continues to pump out amazing stuff.

Nurgle Daemonkin Wishlist

Although rumors suggest the newest Daemonkin book will give Tzeench some love, a Nurgle themed codex can't be too far behind, especially considering the crazy fast releases from G-Dub these days. Just brainstorming some ideas that would make it a fun release...

1. Release the new plastic Great Unclean One - this is an easy one, we all know he's coming. Should be a stellar kit.

2. Plague Zombies - They are already a choice in the Chaos Marine book, so it makes sense to release a kit for them. Considering that the old zombie kit has given us so much mileage over the years, this is a no brainer. Raising zombies over the battlefield would be super fun and characterful too. Here's an idea; either make your Nurgle sorcerers able to raise units of them on their own, or you get to replace a unit that was wiped out with a random number of them.

3. Traitor Guard - This is a bit of a reach of course, but wouldn't it be great to get some god specific Traitor Guard in these books? It would give it a true "Lost and the Dammed" feel for sure. You already have Cultist miniatures; why not expand them list-wise to be able to be true Traitor Guard troops? By making Imperial Guard not being allowed to ally with Chaos Marines or Daemons anymore GW effectively cut off  many of us not being able to use our converted Traitor Guard, so hey, add them back in!

4. Death Guard - I want new models for these guys. The little Marine scale models of the past just don't do it for a lot of us now, especially after reading some of the fluff and novels about how Marines are walking gods. Being not that much taller than a Guardsmen needs to be changed. A bigger kit for them means sicker conversions for Nurgle troops! Rules wise they just need to be hard mothers to take down, I'd be happy with that.

5. Epidemius - This guy needs a new kit, in plastic, so we can convert up some palanquin riding Champions of Filth!

It's bigger...it's badder...

...It's finally ready! (Yes, I love The Incredibles still).

Time to prime!

First game of 7th

New Edition! Get it??

Got in a quick 1000 Point game of 7th Edition on Saturday. It was (non-spam) Chaos Daemons vs. Tau. I used my usual "Pink and Stink" list.

Nurgle Daemon Prince - Psycher 2 and Wings
10 Plaguebearers
10 Plaguebearers
20 Daemonettes - Full command
20 Daemonettes - Full command
Nurgle Grinder - Phlegm

Commander in Crisis Suit
1 Crisis Suit
10 Fire Warriors
10 Fire Warriors
5 Pathfinders
Hammerhead
Riptide

We played the Maelstrom of War: Cleanse and Control mission. We set up with a Dawn of War Deployment to keep it simple. This is the mission with the six Objectives set across it. This let us use the Tactical Objective Cards, which were pretty interesting.

We both forgot to roll for Warlord Traits. NEWBS!

He had first turn and I failed to Seize. I had most of my stuff hidden pretty well so I wasn't too concerned with him getting first round shooting. I only had the DP, Plaguebearers and the Grinder on the board and all of them had cover in ruins or behind buildings.

His first round shooting was pretty quiet. Riptide and Hanmmerhead maneuvered around to get some shots off but the ungodly Nurgle cover saves made them ineffective. Things got more interesting when he started playing his Objective Cards. He picked up three points right off the bat for securing the numbered ones on his side of the board. Some lucky card pulls will really swing games now. It made him jump over with his Riptide to grab one, but that put him a little too far forward of his lines.

My first round was good. I flew the DP forward, eyeing that Riptide. The Comedy Table was good to me, got a +1 to all my invulnerable saves. I got a lucky ricochet shot on his Commander with the Grinder's Phlegm, and insta-killed him from it being Strength 8. This in turn made the other Suit retreat which took it out of the game. That put a huge dent in his firepower. I got First Blood and Kill the Warlord. No Objective Card points for me.

Second Round I got shot at some more, and he grabbed more points by playing close Objective Cards. I was starting to fall behind. The cards are great for pulling you out of the old static game of waiting until the end rounds to hold objectives; they make you move now, which will change the dynamic of this game for sure.

My Second Round I went into Glide mode with the DP and grabbed a few Objectives with the Plaguebearers. I got one unit of Daemonettes down too, and they came on in front of the Fire Warriors, which is always awesome. Not. I forgot I could pull the second unit down with them with their Instrument. That would have helped saturate him a little instead of serving up one unit piecemeal. The Comedy table gave me nada this round, rolled a 7. The DP then charged the Riptide and whiffed it's to wound rolls (!). At least it couldn't shoot next round. My Balesword should finish it off.

Third Round sees the Fire Warriors blasting away at the poor Daemonettes, reducing them down to like four models. The Hammerhead continues shooting but keeps missing. He grabbed a few more points with the Cards as well. Combat sees the DP kill the Riptide. With most of the big shooting threats gone things should get better.

My Third Round the DP jumps off towards the Fire Warriors, ready to die in a hail of pulse beams. The other Plaguebearer unit reaches an Objectives and sits, and my other Daemonette unit comes down to camp on an Objective on his side of the board, protected by a building. Not a glorious job for them, but the possibility of Card points and Linebreaker is too good to pass up. I get lucky on the Comedy Table and roll a 12, giving me 10 free Daemonettes to drop in behind the Fire Warriors. I'm giving him bad choices now, shoot either them or the DP coming in from the flank. Either way, something will get to them next round. The Grinder continues to pump Phlegm at the Fire Warriors, knocking off a few here and there each round. I'm not bringing him out of those ruins.

Fourth Round and the Fire Warriors blast the DP down to one wound, with the Hammerhead finishing him off. Smart move, he gets Slay the Warlord doing that. Nothing much for him as his army is slowly being whittled down.

My Fourth Round gets me the game. The free Daemonettes charge the Fire Warriors and Pathfinders. Comedy table does basically nothing. I pull Objective Cards that gain me a bunch of points for holding stuff. Next round the Daemonettes charge the Hammerhead and glance it to death, gaining some more. I think the final score was fairly close, like 12-8.

So how did we like 7th? Overall, I dug it. The main thing that stuck out to me was the Objective Cards. It kept the game moving and interesting. If you get a Card, you have to find the balance of jumping for points if Objectives are close and protecting your stuff. Cheap Troops to move up the board hunting for them as they appear may be the answer to that, if you army has access to them. There were a few small tweaks here and there that may have come up during the game, but were minimal enough for us not to notice. One I was prepared for was having to wound Flying Monstrous Creatures to force grounding tests. No more marker light to the face of my Daemon Prince!

Anyone else try out 7th yet?

Sorcerer of Slaanesh and psychic powers

He's back!

So after posting this one a while back, I really started thinking he looked too Eldar-ish. I HATE all things Eldar, and couldn't have that, so I did a quick head swap. That Chaos Marauder head did the trick. He still looks degenerate enough to be a worshiper of Slaanesh, and the scale worked great with the mini, which is a little on the small side.

Looking over the Slaneesh Psychic Powers, they seem to be not so bad. I like these as they are balanced; they target enemy shooters, friendly troops, and hordes well, so a little bit of everything.

Sensory Overload - This is your Primaris Power. Decent range, although that's pretty close if you want to go after Riptides, Knights, or Reavers with it. Blinding any of those is awesome though, providing they fail the Initiative test.

Hysterical Frenzy - Target some good assault troops for that extra little kick. Some Daemonettes on this would be murder. Also, Nicolas Cage.

Symphony of Pain - I HOPE YOU LIKE PAIN! This one is so-so, although having two sorcerers cast this with some Noise Marine back-up could be gold. Getting the power on both is problematic, but if you run a Slaneeshi Daemon Prince and a Sorcerer you could make it work.

Ecstatic Seizures - Horde killer extraordinaire. Hit a big bunch of Orks or Bugs (looking at you Tony!) with this and watch them melt.

More WIP Plaugebearers

Feel the Nurgle love!

Got a few more done; the unit is almost complete. I'm going to add a Nurgly symbol to the Icon Bearer and clean up a few areas on them with some highlighting and washes. I started using some purple wash on these and it shades the guts nicely.

I'm seriously contemplating doing a big ol' conversion of a Great Unclean One next. My luck is as soon as I do it, they'll announce new Greater Daemons are being released, not unlike the Plague Zombie kit which is coming soon. We shall see.

WIP Plaguebearers

I've been busy as of late but got a little time to do some test Plaguebearers over the weekend. I was at a WWII reenactment late last week but got home pretty early on Sunday, so I had a little time to work on these.

The bases are definitely not done, and I still have some highlighting to do on the minis as well.

I based them white, then put a coat of Ogryn Camo followed by a good wash of Sewer Water. Then some highlights of lighter green and they're about done. I used some Typhus Corruption and Ryza Rust on the blades as well.
