Sugar bowl challenge

Here's my card for this week's challenge over at the sugarbowl blog. It's a sketch challenge and "something new". Everything on this card is new. I got the stamp a while ago, but haven't been able to use it and the papers I got at a sale after Christmas. They are from Imginisce and have wonderful glitter on them.

Hi everyone and thanks for stopping by. I've been busy this week sewing some Christmasgifts and planning jewelry. I've also been shopping like crazy lately and this week my first package arrived. It was from Simon says stamp. I can really recommend that store! Great stuff, resonable prices and super service.
I also got my package of the whole new set of promarker colours. They are really beautiful. Lots of great blues, pinks and purples.

Here's a Christmas card I made using one of the new Whiff of joy stamps I got. I thought I had all the Christmascards ready, but noticed I need a coouple more so I got right to it. I've used papers form Basic Grey's "Wassail". Love those papers. I like the dark brown one with swirls. Suits the image perfectly.
I'm entering this card for the Basic Grey challenge.

Bloom where you're planted

Some of you might have seen this card half-done already, but today I managed to finish it. I started on it ages ago and meant to finish it for the Whiff of joy GDT call, but didn't get the time. I followed a sketch made by Ila. I just loved this sketch and I actually think this is one of my best cards ever.



Hope you like it as much as I do. I'm aaaalmoooost a little annoyed at the leaves being asymmetrical, but I'm trying to endure it, lol. One of them coooould be a liiiitle bit to the right... :D

Good thing I don't have repositional glue or I'd never be done with a card, LOL.



The text is embossed with clear embossing powder over "laurel leaf" Versacolour ink to give it a nice shine, like dewdrops.

Promarkers: ivory, cool aqua, marsh green, lilac, amethyst, cinnamon, burnt sienna (I think)

Ok, so the card isn't totally ready, but I think that the potential can still be seen here. I thought it would go faster to finish this card, but when it didn't I didn't just want to whip it up fast. The papers and image is too pretty for a quicky, lol. I will upload the card on this post when I'm done with it. Hopefully Katharina won't have gotten to this post until then ;)

Whiff of joy GDT call

I don't know if you've seen, but Katharina, owner of Whiff of joy, is having a guest design team call. I have a couple of cards that I have made using WOJ stamps, but I just read that it has to be new cards, so some are out :(
This is such an opportunity for me since being on a team/guestteam for WOJ is one of my biggest dreams when it comes to crafting. I think that will be my new new year's resolution, lol. I am totally inlove with all the stamps, but I actually prefer Alison Acton's stamps. This might be a good thing since it seems like many have the Elisabeth Bell stamps as favs. I would love to work with the animalstamps and I can't believe I didn't manage to pick up some when I bought my first WOJs!

I really, really hope Katharina will like what I do, but I also know that it will be a hard decision for her. I've seen the competition!

I did however manage to make two new cards and hopefully I will make one more tonight. I will treat myself with some free time since I was so good at studying all week :) I also have a card (the bottom one) that I made for this call following a challenge, so you've already seen it. Don't know if that counts, but I thought a bit outside of the box there too so I want to include the card for the call. The colouring on this card is one of my best ones so I wanted to show it off, lol.

I have used my promarkers for all the cards since that's the colouring I'm most comfortable with and that I think gives the best results. You can click the pics to get a biiiig picture.

I want to point out a totally brilliant thing I came up with that I haven't seen anywhere else. I tried to photograph it, but it's such a subtle detail. Anyhow, the scalloped oval that the image is on is cut out and embossed with my nesties. The patterned paper that surrounds her is also cut out and embossed, but the other way if you know what I mean. It shows better at the fourth pic before I mounted the oval with the image. So the image isn't mounted on the patterned paper but actually fits the hole made in the PP. I just had to tell you about it because I felt so brilliant when I came up with this, lol.
The embossed panels are from my cuttlebug embossing folder and they both read "big-hearted".





Promarkers used:
ivory, pastel pink+rose pink, cinnamon, burnt sienna, ice grey 1&3, cool grey5. I also used two of my old pantone pens: 208T (the fushia pink) and black.
Paper: Basic Grey - bittersweet.
Cuttlebug folder "you".

On this card the ribbon is glued between the two ovals. It's a single card and you write the message on the inside panels. It's quite simple, but I think the colouring and papers speak for themselves. Papers are from Wild asparagus called "pretty little girl".





That's it for tonight. I'll photograph my third card tomorrow and hopefully make another one (or two) before the deadline at 8pm GMT+1 tomorrow. I'm sooooo nervous! Keeping all of my fingers crossed that she will pick me :D

My latest loot - my first Whiff of joys!

I wanted to share with you what I bought lately. First I managed to find a blog of a woman named Michelle that also has a store. She had great prices and also had a 20% off so it was even better! As you may know I've been dieing to get some Whiff of joys (and especially the Alison Acton ones. I think I have a crush on Charlie, lol) Michelle had the "maid Charlotte" one that's been on top of my list. I also like the Elisabeth Bell one with basket so I got that one too. And some other things got into the shoppingcart...
I'm very excited about the distress inks. I only have the tea dye and I like to work with it. Now I finally had the chance to get some of the other colours.

My second package arrived today from onestopcardcraft.co.uk. They had a 25% off when I shopped so I got some items...I wanted the popcorn bears for a while and was so happy when I could buy them for about £4,5! I also got some Christmas and birthday papers. But I'm so disappointed with the bears. They are not at all the size shown on the sheet. The bear with the presentpile is actually about 4"! That is waaay too big for a normal sized card. I'm so disappointed with that. There's not much freedom to add embellishments unless you want the card to be huge. You can always use part of the stamp, but then the cute duck won't show. Such an anti-climax :( The whole afternoon has been like that for me today, yuck! The other bearstamps are huge too. The ones with the snowmen are about 4x3" Is it an english thing? I thought americans liked it big, lol. The only thing I'm actually happy about is the crackeling glossy accent (if it works that is, haven't tried it yet)
One thing that I'm extatic about is the snowflake punch I got today at a sale. It was about $4 and I got the poochie brads for free too.

Last but not least I got some fabrics last week. Brown is not my colour, but I couldn't resist these patterns. They work so well together and I can see some make-up bag with the bigger pattern on the outside and the smaller as a lining. I also got half a yard of the birdie fabric. It was just too cute.
I didn't find that many fabrics that I really really liked so I'm planning on buying them from the net in the future. The birdie fabric was an exception though. I would love to sew a case for my dayplanner out of it, but I don't know how. I think I need to ask one of the sewing wizards or maybe if you know how I should do it, let me know.

(The fabrics aren't really that shiny. The flash from the camera makes them a bit too glowy.)

Can't wait to start playing with my goodies. But I have to plan my time. I started school this week and I need to focus on my reading. But we can all use a break from time to time, right? And besides, there are some fab challenges and DT calls out theere that I just can't miss :)

Whiff of joy challenge #18

This week on the Whiff of joy challenge blog there was a recipe challenge: 3 patterned papers, 2 flowers and 1 brad/button. Since I don't have any WOJ stamps I used one that my friend Coni sent me. The image was stamped on aquarell-paper so I didn't want to use my promarkers. Instead I used a technique I found somewhere while bloghopping. I used my tombow markers for this together with my waterbrush. It didn't really turn out the way her stuff did, but at least it was something different.

I didn't use the colored image until now and although I'm not quite sure what hot cocoa has to do with spring I thought the colorscheme was great. I'm really longing for spring so I wanted to use my wonderful "springy" papers. Right now winter is starting here, it's minus degrees and snow and ice on the ground. Brrr.

I found this pink button in my stash that matches the flowers on her pants. There are the same rounded flowers on the middle panel that I thought worked great together. The big bottom flower in the right corner was originally white, I used blue and red shimmer chalks to tone down the whiteness. The text is written on the computer and printed out. I made the seams with two shades of promarkers. I'm glad I managed to pull this card off, it was giving me a hard time in the beginning, lol. Hope you like it!
