More Green

Some more fun collections in green!

#1. A tower of books about gardening & flowers
#2. Not green but I threw it in because it has the words Spring & March.
#3 A green depression glass knife. Something I've never used but I think it is pretty neat.
#4, #5 #6, #7. Some green things in my kitchen.
#8 Just bought this pitcher yesterday at the thrift store. It is a darker green than I normally like which tells me it may be 1970's???, but it is in such nice condition I didn't want to walk away from it. It is going for sale.
#9. Some green depression glass cake plates.

Sorry the pics are a bit dark and gloomy. It has been overcast and gray here most days. Typical Pittsburgh weather I'm sorry to say.

Jadeite auction

The ebay auctions for my jadeite glasses and bowls closed yesterday. WOW! is all I can say.

(I realized after that post that I still had this cute jadeite vase. It is a keeper.)

At the risk of sounding like I am bragging - I'm gonna tell you what the final totals were.

6 Glasses - $167.00
3 bowls - $26.00
1 Glass - $18.25

Total = $211.25 for some glasses I think I paid $5 for and bowls that I honestly can't recall where they came from so I'm sure they didn't cost me too much!

Again, WOW! is about all I can say!

Jadeite

I own a few pieces of Jadeite. I absolutely love the signature green color! I found this set of 7 tumblers at a St. Vincent de Paul store a few years ago. Score! All the glasses were neatly tucked into a shoe box and sitting on the shelf. I think I only paid about $5 for all of them. It was actually my mom who spotted them first. She grabbed them up and told me to buy them. When your mom - who is a knowledgeable collector - tells you to snap something up, you do it. I haven't found anything this cool - or valuable - at a thrift store before or since.

I believe in enjoying my stuff and not just keeping it on a shelf, so these cups have been in use as drinking glasses in my kitchen for a few years. They are McKee glass and they are a very pretty milky green. They are heavy in your hand. Quality made glass - so vintage, so pretty. My 11 year old and 7 year old have used them regularly and they haven't got a nick or crack among them. If you look closely you can see variations in the color which look like fine lines. See below.

I also have 3 Fire-King cereal bowls in Jadeite. Again, these bowls are used regularly. The color of these isn't as cheery as the McKee green but more gray-green and muted.

Alas, all of these items are currently up for sale on Ebay. I've decided to part with them all. Hopefully some collector (either Martha or Alexis) will snatch them up. One can hope. It is tough to part with them as I really love them, but hopefully they will find their way to a good home.

I only have one other piece of Jadeite that I am keeping. A McKee jadite serving bowl. That will stay with me for now.

Keep your eyes out for great finds at the thrift store. They are rare, but when you do find one it will be a great score!

Fun to Look At

I worked at the antique store this past Sunday - my once-a-month turn. While there, it is fun to look around and see what is new since you have been there last.
Here are my favorite things from today:

I love this chair. Love the red chipped paint and style. It was only $15. I almost bought it but didn't. Just don't need it - even if it is very cute. I'm trying not to buy stuff if I don't really need it.

Love this old book. Love the title, the color red - I could go on and on about it. I may even buy it the next time I am there - but for now it will stay at the shop.

I did end up buying some of these. They are adorable. I hope to show another picture of the ones I chose in a later post. Of course I will use the excuse that they are for my daughters, but secretly I am going to keep them for myself.

A vintage suitcase filled with vintage doll clothes. I dug in and found a few that I almost bought...but didn't. Still sweet though.

I did end up buying the white pot shown above. It has daisys on it. Love it. I broke my rule here. I don't need it at all, but I still had to have it. You know how that is!

Folding Paper Frames

Here is a great way to use the folding paper frames that held vintage photographs.

To do what I did, remove the old photograph carefully from the frame. They are usually glued in. Replace the photo with your favorite sentiment, quote or scripture written on vintage paper. Using your own handwriting is special, or you can print from the computer.

On these examples I added some embellishments to the frames. On the frame shown in the top photo I added a skeleton key and on the photo directly above I added a flower made out of an old sewing pattern.

The frames stand up on their own.

Look for old photos in paper mats at flea markets and antique shops. They are usually pretty inexpensive and you won't mind removing the photos of people you don't know.

Lisa's House

Join me as I take a tour of one of my dearest friend's home - a place filled with beautiful furniture and antiques! I love to come here and stroll through the rooms, taking in all the beautiful vignettes and lovely collections. Lisa and I don't get to see one another often but when we do it feels as though we have just picked up where we left off. Do you have any girlfriends like that? When we met for the first time years ago I think we knew instantly that we were destined to be friends. We affectionatly call each other "kindred spirits" and that is what she is to me.

Lisa's Family Room is home to this awesome antique farm table and tall step-back cupboard.

A lovely powder room for guests with a hand-painted sink bowl from Mexico.

Lisa's home has several antique cupboards, each filled with a different collection.

Lisa has exquisite taste. Around her home she has a collection of beautiful vintage art hanging on every wall. Here are just a few....

Lisa stitched these "Told in a Garden" cross-stitch motif's herself.

The outside of the home is just as pretty as the inside.
Here are some of the beautiful gardens.

Truthfully my photos do not do this home justice. It is so much prettier in person.
Thank you dear Lisa for allowing us to visit. Hoping to come back real soon :)
