Pillowcases

This week I am on Spring Break from my teaching job, so I'm taking advantage of some time off to do Spring cleaning.

The first project I tackled was organizing my bedroom...getting rid of old clothes and stuff and sorting through my linen closet.

Those of you who live in an old house like I do will understand when I say that I don't have any storage space. There are only 3 closets in this entire house and they are small to say the least. To make due I use this cedar wardrobe that was found out in someone's trash a few years ago. It currently stores out of season clothing and sheets.

Here is the inside with the sheets and pillowcases organized neatly.

I also use this old cedar chest that was my grandmother's to store bedding. The blue chenille bedspread that you see there on the top of the pile is one of many that I have collected. Since this chest is filled to over-flowing, I have to store the remainder of my collection in Rubbermaid totes. Sadly, I don't use these bedspreads much because they don't fit on my king-sized bed. My daughter's don't use them on their beds because they prefer their character sheets and comforters. I love vintage chenille bedspreads so much that I doubt I will be able to part with any in my collection at this time. I'm just not there yet if you know what I mean. Oh well. I guess I will have to buy a summer cottage or something to be able to use them :)

Speaking of linens, one of my favorite things to buy at house sales are vintage pillowcases. They are so soft from years of being washed over and over again. I love the prints that many of them came in like these on my bed right now. My special favorites are the ones that have hand-embroidered designs and crochet on the edges. I have many sets of vintage pillowcases. I use them on all of our beds and prefer them to new ones because of their cool, comfy softness.

Thanks for stopping by today!

My Vanity

Here is my version of a vanity table. It is tucked in a corner of my bedroom next to an armoire and the window.

A distressed table with a mirror on top and a metal stool with some rust are all I need to sit and put on my makeup each morning. Behind the table is a metal quilt rack with an antique blouse hanging from it. (Never mind all the stuff you can see in the reflection of the mirror!)

I am using pottery planters to hold my make-up and brushes.

This is my little corner of the world.

Red, White & Blue

Happy 4th of July!
Today I'm sharing some red, white & blue on display right now around the house.

A flag serving dish by Hartstone of Ohio.

As I've mentioned before I have a collection of vintage glass soda bottles. These 3 are on my mantle right now. I love the "Smile" brand soda bottle. It says "replenish with a Smile". I would drink that wouldn't you?

I found these cute vintage reproduction Cracker Jack boxes at Walmart.

This is an old picture holder that I bought several years ago at an antique store. I love the stars.

An Uncle Sam pottery planter.

This is an old drum-major baton that I found at an estate sale. I can picture a marching band playing Yankee Doodle Dandy when I look at this.

Some of my favorite dishes inside a painted primitive cupboard.

A miniature metal chair.

My favorite patchwork quilt. Right now it is on my bed. It isn't big enough to cover a king-size, but I love cuddling with it on chilly summer nights.

The dress form dressed up for Independence Day.

I love chenille bed spreads and have collected several over the years. They are usually too small to cover my bed so I don't typically use them as bedspreads. Here I am using a pretty blue & white one as a make-shift slip cover for a chair. This is the underside.

My favorite American girl - Holly Hobbie. A true American original. Here she sits on a child's wicker rocker.

Thanks for stopping to visit. I hope you have a wonderful 4th of July holiday. I plan on hitting some yard sales this weekend. Hope to be back next week with what I found.

My feminine side of decorating...

I'm lucky to have a husband who lets me do pretty much whatever I want in the way of decorating the house. He doesn't complain at all about what is on display.
My decorating tends to be a little feminine in nature. I like flowers and bright colors.
Recently I painted our master bedroom a pretty shade of blue.
I haven't finished decorating the room entirely, but here are some pics of some little displays I am loving right now.

This is my nightstand. It is really an old dresser that I am now using next to my bed. It is a little tall to be a nightstand, but I like it's vintage style. The mirror on the top of the dresser is one that I scored at an estate sale a few weeks back. Little clocks, a wooden box, a pottery lamp and some old baby pics fill it out. That is a wool felted purse hanging from one of the drawers.

For the past year or so I've been buying these little clocks at estate sales.
I like their little faces.
A pottery planter holds a box of Kleenex.

This old hat sits on my dresser.
I bought her several years ago in an antique store while on vacation on The Outer Banks of North Carolina.
I never cut the tag off - a la Minnie Pearl. The hat is navy blue with a red satin rose.

Another collection I have recently started - vintage clothing.
This lace trimmed cotton blouse buttons up the back.
I pinned a velted rose on it. It hangs on a metal quilt rack.

Remember that dress form I mentioned a few posts back?
Well here it is in my bedroom sporting a pink, yelow & blue crinolin. Not sure what to put on the top yet.

Moving downstairs...
A few books out in honor of President's Day.
My favorite president is Abraham Lincoln. I'm not alone on that. According to poll takers, he is America's favorite president by far. I love that he was a man of faith, honesty & courage.

My very kind Mother-in-Law brought me a bouquet of daffodils the other day...for no reason. They are almost done by now, but they still smell wonderful. A sweet promise of Spring.

Thanks for visiting today and taking a peek into my (feminine) world.

Love,
KayteeJane
