I had a son with Down Syndrome who loved to "reach out and touch" people, whether we knew them or not!
One Wednesday night at our church prayer meeting, he began to squirm and fuss, and I carried him out to the foyer. Another lady got up and went out at the same time. When the doors closed behind us, she burst into sobs.
As I held Caleb, he reached out and placed his hand on the lady's shoulder and patted her. He looked so sympathetic. Through her tears she told me, "I felt such peace when he touched me." Their family had received serious medical reports that afternoon about her new twin granddaughters. (They fully recovered!)
I came to understand, because of Caleb, that in God's eyes, it is not our intelligence, looks, fame or even our experience that makes us a blessing to someone. God' has a PURPOSE for every person. Even though Caleb lived only three years, and said very few words, his "prayers" were heard by a Heavenly Father who was tuned in to a loving heart.
"For the eyes of the LORD move to and fro throughout the earth that He may strongly support those whose heart is completely His." 2 Chronicles 16:9a NASB

Even in his short time on earth, God used Caleb.
Karen, you have so many beautiful stories. You should gather them all together and put them in a book. I didn't know Caleb had a short life, I am very sorry to hear this. Oh, this picture is perfect for your story. It makes me smile, as sons have a special relationship with us Mothers. : )

Yes, I believe everyone has a purpose that God has chosen for them. Caleb must have been so wonderful.
That last paragraph really does sum it all up. Sometimes we wonder where are you God? but he is there all of the time.
The Lord used Caleb to comfort her that day and so many other in his short life.
xoxo
This is so touching. God placed him on this earth for a reason for a short time. I can only imagine the joy he brought and the many lives he touched. God Bless you.
Such a sweet story about Caleb. God was surely working through him to comfort that woman.

This really touches my heart tonight. Thank you for sharing this beautiful story with us. I don't think I realized that your precious Caleb had Down's Syndrome. What a sweet spirit he had...and so wonderful that God used him in such a special way to touch other's lives with the love of God. Yes, this also speaks to the sanctity of ALL life...and I thank you for opening your heart to share these precious memories with us.
I know Caleb blessed many! My Mama once asked a little neighbor-boy with Down Syndrome what kind of cake she could make him for his birthday. He said cornbread and that is exactly what she made for him, candles and all. He blessed us all the days of his life, his name was Donnie. Have a beautiful day dear Karen, HUGS!
