Dancing Leaves, made and quilted by Marjory Mutton (Kawartha Lakes, Ontario, Canada).  

This great wall quilt is based on the Scrappy Maple Leaf quilt pattern by Cindy Carter (download the free quilt pattern HERE).  

Marjory Mutton says, "I saw a picture of a quilt on the internet, and the scrappy style appealed to me.  it inspired me to create my own version, which I called Dancing Leaves.  I have a large collection of fall-colored scraps I wanted to showcase, so I ran with it.  Enjoy!"

Autumn by Kathy Anastasiadis, quilted by Lorrie Meek.

Tons of gorgeous prints and batiks were used in this quilt, based on a published design: Jellystone by Miss Rosie's Quilt Co, in the book titled Miss Rosie's Spice of Life by Carrie Nelson (currently available on Amazon and at various book sellers.)

Winner of Honorable Mention (white ribbon), Kathy Anastasiadis says, "I collected 1/4 yard cuts and fat quarters for over five years. There were 829 squares, rectangles, and strips cut to begin with. Strip sets were cross cut... who knows how many pieces [there are] in this quilt?" The blocks were beautifully pieced (none of the triangle points were cut off!)

Let Freedom Ring!

The 250th anniversary of U.S. Independence—known as the Semiquincentennial or America 250—celebrates 250 years since the signing of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776. This quilt celebrates our country and its flag, a symbol of freedom. Happy Independence Day!

"We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness."

Freedom Starburst 2026, made and quilted by Char Gasker.  

Char Gasker designed this quilt to celebrate our country's 250th birthday.  "I used EQ8 and a scrappy block from Judith Gauthier's book "Sensational Quilts for Scrap Lovers" to make this quilt. Except for the large white stars, all the red, white and blue blocks are made from the same "scrappy" block."

Char picked some beautiful starry fabrics in just the right shades of red and blue. The bright white stars really stand out against the blue! Computer guided quilting was used to complete the quilt.

Improvisational piecing: Round Trip!

Today's featured quilt was inspired by the quarter circle or drunkard's path shapes. Seen another way, these resemble three-quarters Dresden wheels.  We love the complimentary colors and improvisational piecing! Also scroll down for two FREE patterns for Dresden wheel quilts.

Round Trip by Mary Landon (Florida) @addictedtofabric 

Mary Landon says she began piecing these blocks improvisationally, but then switched to newspaper foundations. She says, [I'm] "still trying to use up scraps, this time green, pink and blue."   The background was improvisationally pieced as well.The techniques used include machine piecing, improvisational piecing, and machine quilting on a longarm.

Scrap the Universe, made and quilted by Barbara Harrell  

Truly stunning! Blue ribbon winner Barbara Harrell says that she designed this quilt to work on her curved piecing. "I wanted to scrap the individual elements to see how they played together."  Scrap the Universe won First Place in the Scrap-Solo category at the 2025 Quilt Arizona show.

Katherine Kenward wanted to practice curved piecing and play with crumb blocks with non-square edges. This original quilt is the result! "A friend gave me lots of her scraps, so I was able to separate by shade as well as color."  (The title, Thanks for the Scraps, is a thank-you to her friend.)  

Bad Kitty by Heather Nothum, quilted by Penny Boese from the 2025 Quilt Arizona show. 

Heather Nothum used scraps to create a color wheel quilt.  She changed the middle to look like a black paint splotch, and used her cat's paw print to look like the cat had walked in the paint and on the quilt.  

 Bits and Pieces, made and quilted by Diana Anderson

 

This crumb quilt has almost 200 different fabrics in it! Diana Anderson says, "I love using scraps of fabric and I was challenged by one of my quilting sisters to see how many different fabrics I could use in a quilt."  Diana's design was inspired by a "Shadow Boxing" video by Donna Jordan.

WOW by Karen Fisher, quilted by Judith Davis

Winner of 1st place in the Two Person Small Pieced category at the 2024 Tucson Quilters Guild show. To start the collaboration, Judith Davis gave 32 mismatched, old and sundry fat quarters to Karen Fisher as a challenge to create a quilt, and the result was "WOW"! The quilt was then returned to the "giver" with the challenge, "Now quilt this"!  Beads and other embellishments add tons of visual interest.
