WYATT E. "Mount Sinai / Aswan"

Year: 2015
Genre: Instrumental Doom Metal, Post-Metal
Country: Belgium

Track List:
  1. Mount Sinai
  2. Aswan
DOWNLOAD

Wyatt E. are a new metal band from Liege, Belgium, featuring members of Deuil. This EP is a concept release influenced by Middle Eastern culture and the lost civilizations, and it's going to be the first one in a set of 6 tapes to be released soon. You can read a quite detailed review of it here, if you wish. In comparison to other bands posted on here under the "oriental metal" tag, Wyatt E. are somewhat unique, because I haven't posted any doom/post-metal band of this kind before.

Depravation & Slowly We Rot - split (2014)

DEPRAVATION / SLOWLY WE ROT

Year: 2014
Genre: Blackened Hardcore
Country: Germany / Belgium

Track List:
  1. Depravation - With Dead Eyes To See
  2. Slowly We Rot - Leftover
  3. Slowly We Rot - Solitary Realm
DOWNLOAD

"Depravation was founded in December 2011. In March 2012 we’ve released our demo-tape “I:PRAEDICTVM, followed by our first LP "II:MALEDICTVM" in July 2013. Since then we've played a bunch of shows. In April 2014 our drummer moved to Hamburg and had to leave the band. We've recorded the song "With Dead Eyes To See" with our new drummer in June. I guess it's fair to say that our new music has a different vibe, compared to our older tracks. But I'll let you be the judge of this...

Slowly We Rot is the follow up band for Niels after Worms Feed (http://wormsfeed.bandcamp.com/ ). Founded in late 2013, the 3-piece delivers evil and filth soaked sonic terror in the form of metallic hardcore. The two tracks on this split are their first recordings. Keep your eyes open for these young guns, as there is way more good stuff to be coming from them in the future.

Our new split was released on tape by Dark Omen Records (GER) and Skin & Bones Records (UK). It’s available in three different colors and limited to 100 pieces in total. You can get it here: http://darkomenrecords.storenvy.com/

Feel free to upload this album on your blog and if you feel inspired to write a few words about it, please do so" (unfortunately, right now I don't feel like writing any detailed reviews, but thank you anyway for sending me your music and being interested in what I write on here - B.K.)

Genre: Blackened Sludge
Country: Belgium

Track List:
  1. Acceptance
  2. Rebuild
bandcamp

A self-described "apolitical and atheist black metal/sludge" band from Belgium whose members read and like my blog. I wasn't very impressed by the first few minutes of this record, but the rest of it turned out to be quite good. Release notes from the band: "These belgian guys play something between drone, sludge, black metal and shoegaze stuff. They tried to express their feeling about mourning (named Deuil in french) through their music"

Release notes:

""Power, Propaganda, Production!" is the new MILITIA album and it's a bull's eye! The six famous muscle workers from Belgium have not only unleashed a new production following their 2005 album "Everything Is One" on the new defunct Tactical but have also set a new milestone in their long-running industrial career. The album contains eleven new studio tracks dealing with the very topics MILITIA has always been pointing at during their provocative career: the relation between industry, the dictatorial capitalist system and the situation of the subordinate workers, the economic and financial crisis, the power of the dollar, the exploitation of human and natural resources and reserves, pollution and global warming, the and-needs-and-rights of the oppressed, the strength of unity and solidarity as a means to wipe the floor with governments, regimes and religions that are based on greed, corruption and cruelty.

Militia is a Belgian industrial-percussion band, founded in 1989 by multi instrumentalists Frank Gorissen and Jo Billen. Most of our percussion instruments are made out of oil barrels and old metal parts from cars and machines. They combine these self made instruments with conventional drums, toms and cymbals. The band members also play a variety of self-made wind instruments and tools.

"Power, Propaganda, Production!" comes in a deluxe cardboard box with an 8-page booklet and a magnificent MILITIA politburo mini-poster, all designed by Metastazis from France. The six percussion players are lined up in front of the new flag, fists clenched, shoulder to shoulder, stronger than ever, armed with their huge metal and skin percussion installations to crash the corrupt systems under their boots!"

After 6 years of silence, a new Militia LP was released in March 2011, consisting of 11 pieces of glorious propaganda. If you heard and liked their earlier albums ("Everything Is One" and "The Black Flag Hoisted"), I'll definitely recommend it to you; otherwise you may find it too lengthy and boring, especially if you aren't familiar with this kind of music. Anyway, this is one more time Militia have proved to be good successors to (early) Laibach, and the cover art is great too.

Peregrinus - demo (2011)

PEREGRINUS "demo"

Year: 2011
Genre: Post-Metal (with Cascadian-style BM overtones)
Country: Belgium

Track List:
  1. Collapsing Star
  2. Worlds That Never Were
  3. All Parts Of The Sky
  4. The Fall Of Every Sparrow
  5. Hourglass Of Time
  6. We Humans Are Capable Of Greatness
DOWNLOAD
An interesting coincidence - first I posted a release from a post-metal band (Rings of Rhea) in my blog, then it appeared like another post-metal project has sent me a demo just a couple of hours before that. To be honest, it's pretty amateur stuff, and it's average at best... but it's just a first demo, and it already shows some potential. The only member of the project claims to have anarchist/progressive views, and of course he's a reader of my blog.

Last Legion Alive - demo (2009)

LAST LEGION ALIVE "demo"

Year: 2009
Genre: Stenchcore
Country: Belgium

Track List:
  1. A Black New Dawn
  2. From Birth Enslaved
  3. Tomb Of Dirt
  4. Outro
DOWNLOAD

Last Legion Alive are a stenchcore band from Belgium, who describe their style as "anarchist metal punk". They also are a female fronted band... but it's hard to guess from vocals, which are really brutal! All fans of Axegrinder, Hellbastard, Deviated Instinct, etc. are advised to check out these 4 pieces of anarcho-metal - it's actually good for a demo! A split 12'' with Hellstorm (Greece) is in works.

It's latest up-to-date album by Militia, and for me it's slightly less dark and more melodic than "The Black Flag Hoisted". You think about experimental industrial as a very noisy music, but "Everything Is One" is definitely not that case. According to some sources, Militia's music was much inspired by Test Dept., who were anarchists (or at least very left-wing) too. Anyway, Militia are one of the very few bands on the martial industrial scene who dare to proclaim their anarchist views openly, so I think they deserve our support.

And now, here comes something completely different from everything I've posted before. It's not black metal, or any other kind of metal/punk at all - it is experimental industrial/ambient music based on percussion and sampling. And of course, it's inspired by radical anarchist beliefs - just look at the tracks' names. Martial industrial and neofolk scene always seemed to be predominately right-wing, so it was very surprising to me to discover such band as Militia. Furthermore, the band has a relatively long history (over 20 years of activity):

"Militia is a Belgian industrial percussion band. It was founded in 1989 by the multi-instrumentalist Frank Gorissen and wind instrument player Jo Billen and now 6 musicians are involved. The band is known for its use of self made percussion and wind instruments and the scrap material they transform into musical instruments. The band's music is often inspired by the anarchic and atheist social views and their concern about our natural environment, themes that can be found in most of their lyrics and statements"

See this Wikipedia article for more info about Militia (the article is very informative and has lots of external links). Or you can just download both two sides of the album, and enjoy some contemporary anarchist music which isn't not based on punk at all (it's a very rare thing, I guess).
