Amish

Taken over in Illinois a few years ago...I think this was at an Amish school..

Amish barn--B&W or Color

This is from up near Shipshewana, Indiana.

I prefer it in B&W...what is your choice?

Drive-bys from today....

All shots were taken on the road today...

All are somewhere  between Paris and Arthur, Illinois along St. Rd. 133

Sorry for the dirty windshield...

And below is the last shot I am using...

I had one more barn but it is so blurry I cannot get a decent rendition of it.

From Northern Indiana

Just a few shots from near Shipshewana, Indiana....

I love driving through Amish country.

I know they weren't actually leaning, but every time I look at photos I have of these two, I have the feeling the dark brown one is leaning against the building, and that the smaller horse is leaning against the bigger horse.

These were all taken in October of 2015.

Just one picture today

I wonder if there is someone inside that is giving the horse a snack...I think I have posted one almost exactly like this before.

From Arthur, Illinois, September, 2018

Just waiting to pull out on the road...though Arthur is the center of a big Amish community, there is so much traffic.  It is hard to find time to snap any pictures.

Slow ride....

A capture from 2013 in Parke Country, Indiana...I always wonder how safe the Amish feel with the traffic flying by.

School's out

I could not resist this capture...taken in a town near Shipshewana, but I cannot remember the name of it.  It was more or less a stop in the road...just a little cluster of homes in the middle of farmland.

Good Fence time again...

This week, I am showing fences from up in Amish country.
Most were taken while the vehicle was moving...
Do you like all the white fences?  I do...but then I like barbed wire fences, and rock fences...
I cannot remember if anyone was living here or not...I know we passed one or two places that were empty, but a new home across the road.
And last but not least this quick snap of a game in progress...
Thanks Theresa for taking the time to keep this meme running.

Amish buggy

The area surrounding Arthur, Illinois is occupied by a lot of Amish.  There are always buggies to be seen.We have drove around on the back roads of that area, and while there seems to be more houses without electricity than with, there is always traffic flying up and down the roads.  It makes it hard to get pictures of the farms or horses or clothes hanging on the lines.

Going or coming....

This was a young Amish man....I wondered was he going somewhere or coming back home.  Also wondered if it was his courting buggy...was he going to get his girl, or had he just taken her home.

More Barn Charm from near Shipshewana....

It is that time of the week again...time to show off barns. I am showing three this time...
none of them are fabulous shots yet they are pretty neat barns. I do not remember if any were for sure Amish or not...
all of them will enlarge if clicked.

If you want to show off a barn or just see more, please drop by and visit Tricia's Barn Charm Meme....it will open up later this evening.

Amish Barn Charm

All of the photos here and elsewhere on my blogs enlarge when clicked on.

That being said I thought I would show this barn we came across up north near Shipshewana.
I thought I would zoom in for a somewhat closer view...doesn't it look like such a busy place. And you just know they are productive.
And below is the view from the side...quite a big place
We were stopped, and I was actually out of the vehicle getting this shot. I looked on down the road and here came an Amish buggy. I thought I would just get in our Rav and us be on our way. When we actually passed the buggy it had a couple young boys in it, and they were smiling real big. They were pulling a small jon boat behind the buggy!

I am posting this for Tricia's Barn Charm Meme...I hope you have a barn to share!

More from Amish country

I think almost any of us seeing this would know we are in Amish country....now, in the neighborhood here, you never see a kid with a basket on their bike. When I was a kid, I wanted one on mine...

Two man operation

Maybe I should call this a two man/four horse operation. At least I think there are 4 horses...seems like every time I see them working, there are four.

Mule power, instead of horse power

I love seeing the Amish at work...I don't get right in their face with my camera, but I do take photos from a distance. I know they are not supposed to like their photo taken...I don't either for that matter. But, every where I gohere where I see Amish selling things, and over in Arthur, Illinois in their shops....they sell things portraying the Amish--jigsaw puzzles with photos of Amish, calendars with Amish, etc. I am not making money from it...just showing a way of life we don't see often.
