Sad Sack

When I was a kid I read a lot. I read books from the school library: The Twins Series; The Bobbsey Twins. I read borrowings from the town library: National Geographic, Seventeen, Life, Time. I swapped film-star magazines within my group of friends: Photoplay, Modern Picture. I frequently had to win at "marbles" to get my stake to enter this trade. We had no money, and my parents only bought the "Australasian Post". I also acreted a stash of comics: Phantom, Caspar, Scrooge, Archie, and Sad Sack
I was reminded of "Sad Sack" today, as Alannah and I scrubbed the Dutch Cream potatoes that we had dug on Sunday. They do, indeed, have a lovely texture and flavour. However, I managed to spear quite a few with the pitch-fork. There must be a technique for avoiding this. Alannah picked out the seed-stock for my next planting. I will set aside a garden-bed, compost it up, and turn the sods during December, then plant one seed-potato on the first of each month, in an attempt to spread the harvest.

I think she enjoyed herself. We were listening to Kate Winslet's rendition of Enid Blyton's "The Folk of the Faraway Tree" at the time. Alannah is addicted to Connie!
