Martian units and terrain

Today I finished up a number of figures for All Quiet on the Martian Front. First up is a group of 6 Martian tripods. These are 4 Assault tripods and 2 Scout tripods.
These figures belong to Terry and he has asked me to leave the bases unfinished.

Also completed are these 2 Martian Power Nodes and a downed tripod.

Finally there are these 2 units of Martian Hover drones.
These figures came with metal bases and posts, which I didn't like, so I ordered some clear flying stands from Litko. They look considerably better but they are very top heavy, so I'm going to have to find something heavy to attach to the bases.

Next up on my paint table are the 4 new busts for the Relic board game expansion: Halls of Terra and a number of Carthaginian infantry.

Martian DBA

No it's not a new version of DBA, just an awful title to drag you in. This weekend was a rather productive weekend for painting as I got two batches of figures painted up. First up is a trio of Veteran Assault Tripods for All Quiet on the Martian Front.
Figures are all plastic with some metal bits (all the extra plating is metal). As you'll notice one of the tripods is not based. Terry asked me not to base his figures as he'll take care of it himself.

Next up is the second army of the three I'm painting up for Dennis. This is the Spanish & Tlaxcalan army [IV/19( c)].
I believe the majority of these are from Black Hat Miniatures. This army is predominantly a shooting army with a Knight and Blade alongside some Artillery, Crossbow and a bunch of Bow.

On my paint table right now is a box of Victrix' new 28mm plastic Warriors of Carthage that I'm assembling.

Ironclad

Last night I finally finished the Land Ironclad for All Quiet on the Martian Front. This rather large 15mm model is mainly resin with a few metal bits.

It turned out okay. This was the first time I used weathering powders and they turned out alright. Although the powders looked better before I sprayed on the matte sealer. May have to look into that a bit more. This was the last unit I needed to do for our MayDay game.

On my table right now is a DBA army I'm painting up for the MayDay auction. After that I'm taking a break from 15mm figures. I've decided that 15mm is not my favourite scale, I need a bigger surface area. So after the DBA army I'm switching gears to work on a 28mm Carthaginian army. Either that or my Retro Raygun figures when they arrive. Decisions, decisions. . .

On another note, if you're interested in going to MayDay, we still have spots open, especially if you're a Warmachine, 40K or DBA player. http://maydayconvention.com

Martian Drones

This week I finished up a large lot of Martian drones for All Quiet on the Martian Front. This is 6 units of drones (3 per unit).
You'll notice one of the drones at the back seems to be on it's side. This drone had a miscast body, half of it was missing. So instead of trying to get a replacement for the one body, I've done the drone up as a destroyed drone.
This concludes the Martian side of forces for the MayDay game. So now I just have to complete the Land Ironclad for the human forces.

The Red Martian

A quick update, tonight I finished the Red Martian for All Quiet on the Martian Front.
The Red Martian is different from all the other Martians in that he/she/it is rather psychotically deranged and hence has a distinctly different paint scheme. Instead of glittering metal it's matt black and covered in red markings. Oh, and can't forget the human skeletons draped over the hood. To further make this tripod stand out I changed the basing to have 'red weed' on it as opposed to the regular terrestrial shrubbery.

Up next will be half a dozen units of drones, they're almost finished so they should be along shortly. After that is a DBA army for the MayDay auction and the Land Ironclad.

Scouts & Slavers

Tonight I finished up some more Martian tripods for my All Quiet on the Martian Front force. First up is a trio of plastic Scout Tripods.
Next up is a pair of metal Slaver Tripods.
Decent looking figures, I expect their existence on the battlefield to be measured in seconds. These 2 lone tripods control all the Martian infantry - drones and lobototons. Any human player with half a brain will take these out immediately which will take out all the infantry. A critical flaw in the Martian forces.

Up next will probably be the Red Martian.

Some Martians!

It's been a very slow month but I finally got these 6 assault tripods completed.

So for MayDay this year, I've still got a pile of Martians to complete but I will definitely be done by the end of March and I've also got the land ironclad to complete.  For the auction at MayDay, I'm going to paint up a DBA army. Most of the figures are on paint sticks waiting for it to warm up a bit so they can be primed.

On the past weekend I had a few lads over for some board gaming and we played Urban Sprawl from GMT Games and Friedrich from Rio Grande Games. This was the fourth time I've played Urban Sprawl but the first time with four players. I managed to squeak out a win which was nice. I really like this game.  Friedrich on the other hand turned out badly for me. I got to play the Prussians so everyone was against me. I made some bad decisions early on and lost a number of armies that I never got back. The Austrian player ended up winning the game. I'd really like to try this one again.

Till next time!

Lobototons!

Last night I finished off 12 bases (4 units) of Martain Lobototons with blasters. The 15mm figures are the Martian ranged infantry for All Quiet on the Martian Front.

Next up is hopefully some Hittite chariots and a unit of British light artillery for my War of 1812 project. But first, off to Fallcon tomorrow!

Meat shields. . . er . . . civilians!

Been a while since I posted up any painted figs. Tonight I finally finished off a couple batches of figs. First up are 9 bases of 15mm Human civilians (a.k.a. Pre-Lobototons) for All Quiet on the Martian Front.

These figures are all from Alien Dungeon and are really nice.  Very detailed and lots of character.

Next up is a batch of 15mm Hittites (finally!). These are 5 bases of heavy infantry. Figures are Old Glory 15s.

Next up on my table is maybe some terrain, some Hittite chariots are almost done and I've primed all of my Lobototons with blasters for AQotMF.

More Tripods

Last night I finished off another group of tripods for my All Quiet on the Martian Front force. First up is a lone Scout Tripod.
This is a plastic figure that uses the same leg assembly as the Assault tripods. Next up is a pair of all metal Grenadier tripods.
I now easily have over a 1000 points of Martians ready to combat the Human hordes.

Tripods

"A monstrous tripod, higher than many houses, striding over the young pine trees, and smashing them aside in its career; a walking engine of glittering metal, striding now across the heather; articulate ropes of steel dangling from it, and the clattering tumult  of its passage mingling with the riot of the thunder."
H.G. Wells, The War of the Worlds

Today I finished a group of 4 assault tripods. These are 15mm figures, although I suppose they could be used at any scale. Figures are all plastic. First is a pair of standard assault tripods.

Next is a assault tripod with black dust launcher.

Finally is an assault tripod with green gas grenades.

Next on my paint table is a scout tripod and a pair of grenadier tripods. I also have a pile of 15mm Hittites that have to get finished.
