BTW: I really enjoy the new David Bowie album. I've been listening to it for a week now and it just gets better and better. I haven't had this feeling when listening to an entire album since Brett Anderson released Black Rainbows back in 2011. Go check it out!

Where Are We Now?
Feels like I havn't been drawing much these past three years. Most of my time has been spent writing and scribbling. And relaxing. Will have to do something about that.
Like... drawing more.
BTW: I really enjoy the new David Bowie album. I've been listening to it for a week now and it just gets better and better. I haven't had this feeling when listening to an entire album since Brett Anderson released Black Rainbows back in 2011. Go check it out!

Lundin Land of Black Gold
Fans of Tintin might want to pick up a copy if this weeks issue of affärsvärlden.
The cover is, of course, paraphrasing the cover to "Tintin au pays de l'or noir" and is drawn by Hedvig.
I love the concept (Tintin – Lundin) so whoever came up with the idea at affärsvärlden: Well done!!!

Hedvig – the Angry Li'l Unicorny
Last summer I spent a few days in the countryside,
together with my girlfriend Hedvig.
Besides relaxing, making red currant pie and working in the garden we found a drawer filled with drawings she did as a kid.
And next to those we found a box filled with ponies cut out of paper.
There were thousands of them! No joke.
I got to pick one.
And I chose the one she had namned after herself. :)
An angry little unicorn pony.
Today is her birthday so I decided to do a version of my own for her.
Happy birthday, Hedvig!
/Joakim.
( To see her more recent artwork check out her blog vixiearts or her deviantart. )

Spiderwig
My girlfriend Hedvig has been on a Spidey diet for a few days now. Watching the cartoons and re-reading old comic books. And a few minutes ago she sent me this selfportrait. :)
This is what she looks like after watching the 90's cartoons streamed from the net 9 hours non-stop ... :)
More of her stuff can be found here: vixiearts.blogspot.com,
including this image of Emma & Sara. Enjoy!

Sketches by Hedvig
Hedvig spent the weekend at my flat.
And as usual she left a trail of sketch paper behind her.
Like this one. Enjoy!

E&S #8
Just printed and the latest issue of Emma & Sara in the studio.
It will be released May 7 at Small Press eXpo in Stockholm. As usual we've only printed 30 copies that will be sold on a first come, first served basis at our table.
This issue covers all of the E&S pages made in 2008 and Hedvig has made a brand new cover.

Update - Alfapojken
Back in May I showed a glimpse of the project I and Hedvig were working on. (And we still are, just trying to squeze in a page every now and then in our busy scedules.)
Now it can be told what it is.
It's a chapter in Daniel Ahlgren's next SH3 book! And here are a few pages from that story as a teaser:

Besides me and Hedvig there are a few other artists on board this project. Lars Krantz and Jimmy Wallin will also do one story each and Daniel will illustrate one chapter himself.
The story I and Hedvig are working on (Alfapojken wich is Alfaboy in english.) will be released as a single issue in the spring.

E&S revisited
A quick update if anyone wonders what I'm up to right now, this very moment at a café in Gothenburg, drinking coffee and eating blueberry muffins.
I'm currently working on the 8'th issue of mine, Emma's and Hedvig's "Emma & Sara". This issue will feature all the pages we made in 2008 and sporting a brand new cover by Hedvig. (I hope. Please, Hedvig!)
It will be in black and white with color covers as usual.
If everything falls in to place it will be released at SPX in 2011. :)
I sure miss working with Emma and Hedvig on this bi-weekly page.
It was fun. But nine years is quite a long time for a comic to last nowdays, anyway.
Here are some sample panels in color, from 2008.

Picto fiction time
Ah! It's blog time again!
Before we left San Diego we made sure to buy lots of american candy. Stuff that we can't find here in Sweden. Like "York". You know the peppermint pattie covered in dark choclate?
Well, I like them a lot and so does Hedvig. So much that she ate them all ...
Now, here am I, beeing grumpy about not having any York's to stuff my mouth with. Trying to read an old issue of Donald Duck on the couch.

Guess who enters the room telling me how sorry she is?

Then she shows me what she's been hiding behind her.

Pancakes! With strawberry jam and whipped cream!
"I'm so sorry" she says. "Can you forgive me for eating all the York's?"

You bet honey! All is forgiven. I'm now officially mister happy face, ready to eat some mighty fine Mickey and Donald pancakes.

Isn't she, like, the best girlfriend, ever? :)

Re-drawn
My girlfriend, Hedvig, spent the weekend over at her parents house in the countryside. There she found a set of sketchbooks that she filled with drawings some 10-12 years ago.
Now, instead of throwing them all away she did a series of re-makes.
Like this one:

Fun experiment, don't ya think?
If you like this sample, then more can be found in the blog post "A blast from the past" over at her blog.

Comics exhibition in Gagnef
If you happen to be near Gagnef, Sweden this summer you should visit the Ottilia Adelborg museum.
Why? There's a comic exhibition there showing some of the current Swedish comics made for kids. You'll be seeing finished original art, pencils, rough idea sketches etc.
All lent to the exhibition by the following creators: Annika Giannini (Tivoli), Hedvig Häggman-Sund & Adam Blomgren (Bamse), Joakim Lindengren (Strumpmysteriet), Johanna Kristiansson & Joakim Gunnarsson (Katten Nils), Lena Furberg (Mulle), Lisa Sjöblom & Richey Wyver (Tails from the Burrow), Natalia Batista (Mjau!), Sara Olausson (Loranga), Susanne Fredelius (Doris), Tina Landgren (Helmet Girl), Yokaj Studio (Teckna manga).

The exhibition is presented by Gagnef kommun and the comic book Tivoli. It's open June 19 to August 15.

A sneak peak. Holy cow!
Lack of blogposts you say?
Well, I'm currently working on a hush, hush, secret project together with Hedvig. I'm lettering and inking, while Hedvig does the pencils, from a script by one of Sweden's most well known "indie" writers. Will take some time to finish but it's fun, fun, fun to work on it! Will hopefully be available next year.
Without revealing too much what it's about, here's a sample piece from one of the pages.

The great graphic novel about cows? Ah sez nuthing! ;)

SPX and stuff
Finally back home after a trip to Gothenburg and Stockholm.
Gothenburg to join Hedvig and Stockholm for Small Press Expo.
We spent Saturday in our small booth selling sketchbooks, prints and Emma & Sara comics. Hedvig's sketchbook went fast and by the end of the day we had nothing left to sell. So the Sunday was spent relaxing in Stockholm, walking around, eating icecream in the sunshine.
This means that Hedvig's sketchbook 2010 and Emma & Sara #4 & 5 now are all sold out.
Hedvig made small drawings in the sketchbooks for those who asked, and while I wish I could have made copies of them all, here are two of them.

For some photos from SPX check out Hedvig's blog.
Didn't pick up much comics myself (Hedvig bought a ton of fanzines and books...) but there are two I really want to mention here. First we have the last album in the Valhall series by Peter Madsen & Co. ( Published by Ekholm & Tegebjer. )

A great finale to this album series that has been 30 years in the making. The gods are facing Ragnarok and all things practically goes to hell in this book. Great stuff! Peter Madsen was kind enough to make drawings in all albums. Mine below:

The best looking mini comic at SPX was IMO "Din Själ För En Saga" (Your soul for a tale.) By Daniel Westman. A well told short story (8 pages) with great artwork. Just see for yourself:

I want to see more of his stuff. Much more!
Also got the Jetta book when I got back.
This is the way a reprint book should be done! The reproduction is great and most important of all: the paper quality is perfect, perfect, perfect for this kind of book! Did I say it's perfect?
I hope other publisher sees this and finally stops using glossy paper for reprints of old stuff. (Usually the people choosing paper quality seems to think the shinier and more glossy paper they can get the better...)
To end this post here's mine and Hedvig's pin-up from the Jetta book.
In color!
On perfect paper. :)

Hedvig's sketchbook 2010
[Edit: The Sketchbook is now sold out! They sure went fast this year.]

The all new sketchbook by Hedvig has arrived. Just picked up a box today. As usual she's only printed 50 copies, and as usual I expect these to be gone before the week is over.
Here's a sample of what the interiors looks like.

And the back cover:
It's 28 pages in black and white, with thick color covers. A5 size. The price including postage anywhere in Europe or USA is $10. (Just to cover the expenses for printing and postage.) Each copy will be signed and inscribed if so desired. And best of all, Hedvig will make a drawing in each one. Wadda great deal. :)
Just drop me a mail at: sekvenskonst at telia.com if you want one.
(You know you do!)
Or visit our booth at SPX in Stockholm this weekend!
Cheers!
/Joakim.

Hedvig HS' iPhone sketchbook
Need some nifty artwork in your iPhone?
Hedvig just released her new sketchbook in that format.
http://bit.ly/clOZci
Go check it out! :)
Five persons sending me a mail with the word "Griffin" as the subject will get a promo code, so that you can download it for free. :) sekvenskonst at telia dot com
Edit: Turned out that the promocodes only worked with US iTunes accounts. So there are still a few left.

Here's the description from the website: "A pocket-sized artbook with sketches and illustrations by Hedvig, a swedish illustrator. After she finished comic art school in Malmö, Sweden, she's been working as a comic book artist, mainly illustrating comics for kids and teens. Eventually she ended up in the game making industry as a concept artist. Browse through never before seen sketches and art, and some classics. Hopefully you'll find some inspiration on the way. 33 pages."
[Note that even though the cover is the same as her latest, printed sketchbook from 2009 the contents are not the same. And you'll be able to zoom in on all of the images.]

This and that, on a Sunday evening
Hedvig just sent me a bunch of drawings. Some characters from one of her projects. And with her permission I'm sharing them here. Enjoy!

Buck O'Rue
My friend Germund is busy with his Paul Murry & Dick Huemer project: The complete Buck O'Rue comic strips and sundays. Well almost complete. He's still missing a few dailies and some parts of a few sundays. So I take the liberty to repeat a plea from Germund posted in 2008.
-----
Now I've compiled a list of all the Buck O'Rue artwork Richard Huemer and I are missing to complete the book. I'm making a last attempt to locate it through a few blogs, so if you could help us by posting a search plea we'd be exceptionally grateful. Practically the entire run Jan 15, 1951 to late 1952 is ready and scanned from black/white proofs and I have already spent much of last year cleaning up the artwork.
The year 1951 is 100% complete, so all the missing art is from 1952. We would like to obtain the full 12-panel versions of the following sundays:
January 20
Feb 3
May 4
June 8,15,22,29
July 6
August 10,17,24
December 14 and later, but these were probably never even produced.
The dailies are complete Jan 15, 1951 to July 19, 1952, except the week of July 7-12, 1952. These late dailies were probably never even published in newspapers at the time, but were most likely drawn.
-----
If you can help Germund please mail him at germund_vw (at) yahoo dot com
While waiting for the book to be finished, here's a promotion pic of Buck and his horse Reddish drawn by Murry.

Ba-Ba
And speaking of book collections of newspaper comics. The Ba-Ba book seems to be forever delayed. I have finished my part a loooong time ago and now it's all in the hands of others. All we can do is wait I suppose...
