Lovely Selvage Gift!
I just received the nicest gifts from Joan of Smyrna, Georgia. She made a selvge cover for this quilter's notebook ("needlework companion"/idea book) and a selvagey bookmark. Aren't they beautiful? Thank you, Joan!
The little button closure is covered by this happy face resting on two yoyo-like flowers. It makes my heart smile :-) Also notice the red zig-zag stitching along the selvage edges. A nice touch.
A selvage near the happy face says "Blank Quilting." This one always makes me chuckle. It's like "flavorless chocolate." What's the point? Lol. Perfect, I like that one. Another good selvage is the "Girlfriends" below. I hope fabric manufacturers will give us more selvages with "useable" words on them, like "Happy Birthday," or phrases, quotes, lyrics, names, places...anything.

Quilt Diva Sends Me Her Only Japanese Selvage
Then she included a selvage that says "Quilt Museum" in honor of my new website: http://www.onlinequiltmuseum.com/, even though this fabric is really from the Rocky Mountain Quilt Museum. Next is Texas blue-bonnets, then Gretchen's signature "Quilt Diva" fabric. She says that little face looks just like her, but thankfully it doesn't. Finally, a selvage printed up-side down, from way back in the 1900's. So twentieth century, plain font, so serious.
Be sure to click on over to Gretchen's blog (see above). There's a list of things that you may not know about her, and they are pretty amazing.

Melinda's Selvage Covered Journal
Melinda of Marietta, GA just made this selvage journal cover. Isn't it a beauty? Lots of stripes and a great swirly button. Here's what she had to say:
"Today was special projects day at guild. We were making journal covers. We had some prep work to do before we started including quilting the outside cover and cutting all the parts needed to make the cover.
I decided to do a selvage one, of course. As you know I love selvages. Here is the finished project. It turned out even better than I expected."
See more photos of this project on her blog at:
http://melinful.blogspot.com/2009/10/special-projects-day-at-guild.html She credits her friend Lisa for the cover-making method. Thanks, Melinda!

Selvage Journal for Daughter in College
I like the color windows on the selvage Stephanie used for the bow. Isn't that a nice idea: black and white, with soft colors across the middle? Mom has a good eye for design, too! See her blog at: http://loftcreations.blogspot.com.
