When it's this bad... It's bad: Superman the Musical

I saw this over at Geeks Out and I had to share this with y'all. There was a Superman musical in the 70s called, "It's a Bird...It's a Plane...It's Superman". I never heard of it, but judging from this clip, many folks probably didn't either. Still, check it out

The Craziest Movie EVER: The Apple

I like weird movies and I like campy movies (NOT Stupid Camp like Burlesque and Moulin Rouge), but fun camp Xanadu.

Anywho, my partner told me about The Apple and how it was just horrid. So I googled it and found the plot. So check it out:

Alphie (George Gilmour) and Bibi (Catherine Mary Stewart), two youths from Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan in Canada, travel to America to take part in the 1994 Worldvision Song Festival. Despite being the most talented performers, they are beaten by BIM (Boogalow International Music) and its leader, Mr. Boogalow (Vladek Sheybal), who use underhanded tactics to secure a victory. The duo are approached by Mr. Boogalow to sign to his music label, but soon discover the darker side of the music industry. Bibi is caught up in the wild lifestyle BIM offers, while Alphie risks his life to free her from the company's evil clutches. He eventually convinces her to run away with him and the pair live as hippies for several years (and produce a child) before being tracked down by Mr. Boogalow who insists he owns Bibi's soul. However, the two are saved by the Rapture, and all good souls are taken away by Mr. Topps (aka God).
Okay, a little creative, weird and out there. But then I watched the musical numbers. I can't tell you about them, I rather show them to you

Great Hera! They have made Bring It On... The Musical

Creativity is on life support for realz.
About 2 years ago, there was talk of a 'Bring It On' musical, but I thought, "Who would do that?".

Well, somebody is doing it...
Celebrate the world premiere of a new musical created by a Tony Award®-winning team of Broadway's brightest young creators.

Two squads. Two schools. One mission: claim the title at the National Cheerleading Championships. The high-stakes world of competitive cheerleading meets the cutthroat rivalries of high school politics and romance in this bold and explosive new musical comedy. How do you learn to be true to your team and to yourself? Sometimes it's got to get ugly before it gets pretty. Game on.

The team behind this world premiere is an extraordinarily rare union of Broadway's most acclaimed, award-winning young creators. With an original book by Tony Award® winner Jeff Whitty (Avenue Q), music and lyrics by Tony Award®-winning composer Lin-Manuel Miranda (In the Heights), music by Pulitzer and Tony Award®-winning composer Tom Kitt (Next to Normal) and lyrics by Broadway lyricist Amanda Green (High Fidelity), this wholly original new musical is directed and choreographed by Tony Award winner Andy Blankenbuehler (In the Heights).

Wow, that's all I can say for now.

My Top 5 80s Musical Movies

Let's face it, the 80s had the best musical movies. Some were good, some were bad and some were deliciously bad (my favorite kind).

These movies were something to me because they ravaged my little neophyte gay mind. Regardless of how silly and campy they were, these movies still hold a special place in my heart.

So here are my top 5 80s musical movies.

Popeye

The Pirate Movie- oh Christopher Atkins

A Chorus Line

Xanadu

Other Jukebox Musical Ideas

It seems that today's Broadway musicals are either Grammy winning CDs or odes to musical entertainers.

So, I thought I would share my ideas on possible CDs to make into musicals.

Ricky Martin- Ricky Martin: This musical could be about a young Latino man coming out in the 1980s

Lil Kim - Hardcore: This story could be created around a teen girl trying to survive in the mean streets of Hunts Point in the Bronx.

N.W.A. - Straight Outta Compton: Four boys living in South Central, Los Angeles.

Dep Leppard- Hysteria: A coming of age story of a boy in some Mid-Western town.

U2 - The Joshua Tree: The songs in this great album could give us any story.

Janet Jackson - Rhythm Nation 1814: This musical could be about racial injustice
Any ideas?

Who asked for This?: The Addams Family the Musical

I'm lost for words. Is this what's left? Old shows as musicals?

What's next The Jeffersons, Good Times, Maude?

Here's more info on this

Joy for lil Gay Boys

So this little performance from Glee has "children" making their videos and hopping around like Jiffy Pop popcorn.

After seeing this cute routine, I was reminded of a Glee-like number I was over-crazy about in the 80s.

The number came from the movie School Daze. Tisha Campbell made me want to be a Gamma Ray and I can still do this routine. In fact, we did this routine a lot in college.

Still love it and I love Glee.

A Musical? Really?

Madness, George! E! reports this scary reality.

George Lucas
has signed off on Star Wars: A Musical Journey, a two-hour live musical event featuring a Stormtrooper kick line and singing Wookiees John Williams' Oscar-winning score.

Premiering next year in London's O2 arena, the production will be performed by the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra in sync with movie clips from the six live-action films. The show will play in chronological order, from The Phantom Menace to Return of the Jedi.

The production will blast off April 10 in the U.K. and then embark on a European tour, complete with an exhibition of rare Star Wars collectibles including never-before-seen models, props, costumes and production artwork. No word when it will visit America.

Why? George don't need the money and I don't think we want the show.
This should be reminder

Xanadu, Miranda, Cubby Bernstein?

Whoever Cubby Bernstein is, I want to say thank you for the cute Xanadu shout outs on youtube. He's has several youtube episodes about the musical, Xanadu, which are so good. Here is a clip, featuring Cynthia Nixon.

Cute, Cute, Cute

Ash is going to dance and sing!

First Xanadu and now, more musical greatness. The master of all demon movies, Evil Dead is not only a musical, but it's coming to Cali-cal. It started production in Toronto in May 1, 2007 with the run extended from June 23, 2007 to August 4, 2007. Now, it's starting up in the Campbell Theatre in Martinez, CA on June 13, 2008.

It should be fun, even if it's bad.
