Plum Perfect

I woke up a week ago and said "let's strip some paint", and let's I meant me.  All by myself, little old me alone with some Citristrip and basic tools.  Wire bruse, putty knife, sponge, bucket of water and lots and lots of paper towels..  So many paper towels that I ran out and the project was delayed a day until I could buy some more.

Before.

During, and by during I mean about 6 hours into stripping.  Just so we are clear, this isn't half way.  It took me 16 hours, yes that says 16 hours, to strip this piece.  So many legs and details, but I wouldn't change a thing.  Knowing what I know now.  I would strip it again.

Done stripping, she's so pretty, but she now that she's bare naked her flaws are starting to show.  Poor girl, I know how she feels!  So  I fixed her flaws, a little filler here and there and some custom paint to cover her legs and details.

Finished!  Isn't she grand?  I may be partial, I have a lot of work into her, so of course I think she's amazing.  She almost looks NEW!

Close up of all her gorgeousness, that's a word right?  If not, it should be.  I stained all her wooden parts with a dark walnut, to cut down on the yellow tint she had going on and wiped her down with two coats of Minwax wipe on poly.  Wipe on poly is genius in a can.  Run out now and buy some.  The custom color was a happy accident.  It's 4 pts Wrought Iron by La Craie (Maison Blanch, French chalk paint), 1 pt Emperor's Silk by ASCP, and two parts Pearl Plaster by Artisan Enhancements.  Together they created this yummy Plum with the perfect pearl sheen!  Swoon

Anything GOES!!!!

Party Time!  Missed me?  I've been crazy busy.  I'm working on out sourcing my life.  REALLY.

I've been talking to movers, cleaning folks, landscaper, seamstresses, contractors, day care providers, camp supervisors, and doggy day campers....yes you read that correctly doggy day campers.

I really feel over whelmed, but in a great way.  We got a verbal from the bank that the short sale is ours, and our financing company has also given us a green light.  Looks like we are actually getting this house.  Whew.  That's a relief.

Now life gets crazy, as if the last 2.5 years haven't been crazy enough.  I get to move out of this place, get it rented and get the new place remodeled and moved in all by MYSELF.  No pressure.  Hence all the outsourcing.

I plan on moving the majority of the furniture and decor myself, but I will have to hire movers for the really big stuff.  I've found the movers, and they won't break the bank.

I've also worked out daycare for my daughter for days when I need to close, move and clean.  I'm thinking the boy will play at a friends.  He's so easy, lucky for me I have one easy one.

Waiting to hear from a cleaning lady, I figure I have two houses to clean, and I can use all the help I can get.  Carpet folks are on speed dial too.

Landscaper starts this Friday.  The dog has done a number on the yard, and the new place is a short sale so both yards need a little work, and weekly maintenance.  Funny story about him, his son is Lauren's "boy friend".  Yep, the five year old has connections.

Seamstress is working on a few items as we speak, and you know me, I have big plans for her in the very new future.  Actually, I have three of them, I'm greedy.

Contractor, check.  I've had him for the last 2.5 years, I just can't wait to do the walk thru with him and see what plans he comes up with.  The basement is going to be finished and the second floor slightly remodeled right after we close, in the Spring we will be doing the first floor and air conditioning.

Stanley is last by not least, I can't have him living in a kennel while all of this is going on, so I've arranged doggy day care for him.  He'll get to play his tushy off while I work mine off.  At least we be exhausted together.  Small miracle.  He's like the energizer Vizsla.  lol

Plus the kids are out of school, damn Summer.  The will be doing day camp at the rec, and I will be leaving them with friends too.  I just have to survive this Summer and before I know it they both will be in school.  I'm already tired.  I should double up on my caffeine now.

Looky what I painted!  Yep, I actually painted.

I'm a glutton for punishment apparently, but I had to paint my bedroom furniture again.  I figure third times the charm?  I'm over black furniture, all the black has to go.  This is a custom mix of Coco, Olive and Graphite ASCP, with dark wax over clear.

The handles are black, with Duck Egg and Gold wax.  I custom mixed the Duck Egg paint with the clear wax.  Love what you can do with these products.

In my bedroom, until the move.  I'm literally moving less than half a block away, staying on the same side of the street even, so I figure I should paint what I can before I move.

I will have more pics to follow, once the second night stand is done.  All it needs is wax.

Party On!

I wish…

I was my four year old daughter.  Well, I wish I had her room when I was her age.  If you’ve met my daughter, no one would want to be her, just have her stuff.  I love her don’t get me wrong, but she’s difficult, stubborn, strong willed, hard headed, and these are her good days.  Did I mention I love her?
Anyway, I bought her some cute stuff for her room recently and  I’m totally jealous.  T.O.T.A.L.L.Y.
I’m not proud.
Ironstone Pitcher, (did I mention she’s four?)  Pink Quartz egg.  Ahhhmazing vanity!!!!

Love the wood on this baby, the lines and all her EIGHT legs!  Just full of loveliness.

Looks great next to her bed.  All I need now is to find the perfect little chair.   I wouldn’t dare paint her, but for fun I mixed a custom ASCP to paint the drawers for a fun surprise.  Old White, Barcelona and Emperor’s Silk.  Not really sure how much of each, but it’s a super cute coral color.

I’ve got a couple plans in the works to revamp her bedding.  I hope it turns out like the picture in my head.  LOL

I See Changes in my Future….

Color changes that is.  I’ve fallen pretty hard for a color I never thought was me.  Boy was I wrong.  It’s SO me.  The only problem is figuring out how to decorate with it, without my house looking like a giant Orange Sicle.

If you’ve guessed Barcelona, then you are RIGHT!  I L.O.V.E. this color, it’s in my top 10 for sure.

I really just wanted to try it out and see how I felt about it.  I have this old carpenters tool box, and I thought I would add some color to it.  I’m so glad I did.  I see a lot of big changes in the next house.  I’m thinking lots of Duck Egg and Barcelona.

I Put a Bird on it!

When in doubt put a bird on it.  Birds make everything better.   ASCP doesn’t hurt either.

I went to Hobby Lobby, and bought this adorable stencil.  Actually I bought two, but you have to wait to see what I did with that on.  bwahahah…that’s my evil laugh, convincing?

ASCP, Old White.

Close up.

Fake plants for cloche.  That’s about as original as I was feeling.

So what do you think?  Pretty easy, affordable and cute.

More Pink and Gold….

You know me and the gold…lol  it’s an addiction.  Lucky for me it’s not quite as dangerous and my craigslist or cleaning addiction.  They both run me ragged and exhaust my funds.
I was in Lauren’s rom the other day an noticed her little blue basket had been written on, wonder who could have done that?  So I painted it.
I have a before picture but you aren’t going to believe this, my extended hard drive is BROKEN again!  Yep, good old Stanley knocked it off the counter.  It’s not as stressful the second time around.  Especially now that I know the Geek Squad can fix it.  If then can’t I at least have my other old one, and won’t lose everything.  Is this positive thinking or what, I’m not even crying in my ice cream
So here’s the after, sorry about the no before.
031
Back in place on her desk, it’s kind of a catch all for lip gloss, jewelry and other misc. girly stuff.
033
I have another fun project to share soon too, as soon as I fix it!  Oops.  Don’t you hate it when you are almost done with a project and then you mess it up?  Yep, me too!

I've jumped on the Flag Wagon....

That was a terrible pun, huh? Yeah, I know.

I decided that this board I've had on my kitchen table for a while now, was due for some paint.

I thought what could be easier than adding some white paint?

I sanded a bit to distress, easy peasy.

Ta da!  Better?  Yes/No?

On the flip side, updated to the 'new blogger' and it stinks.  Hopefully I can work out the kinks, or may have to switch to something else.  Sigh.  It's always something!

Tray Table Completed!

I'm happy to announce that I have completed a project.  Whew, about time.

I started on this tray table over a month ago.  You are probably asking yourself how she gets anything done when she works this slow.  Trust me, I ask myself this all the time.

Recap of  what the tray table looked like in the beginning.

And this is what it looks like today.  The pefect little end table.  All I need now is some cute stuff to put on top of it.  Hmmm what to hunt for?

It's painted ASCP Coco, I love this color.  Then I traced a stencil on it and painted it with my favorite Martha Stewart Vintage Gold.  I heart GOLD!

i own a paint brush?

Really, I do.  However if you read this blog, and I love you for it, you know it's been a while since I've actually used one!

Sorry about that.  I owe you guys more projects.  I have six more planned, and I hope to get to them in January.

Before....Black, which I'm getting really tired of.

Union Jack Furniture and Paint Advice!!!

Recently I went to a really over priced furniture store, and saw the coolest coffee table.  It had the Union Jack painted on the top.  It was a little bright for my liking, but inspiration has been hatched!

I was the last person to us ASCP and now I'm the last to use the Union Jack in my home design, okay so I'm not a trendsetter.  (and apparently slow.)

Here are some examples that I borrowed from various internet sources.
